We asked for Maxim employees across the country to send us their #MaximStrong videos and photos to show our support for nurses, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. We have been overwhelmed by the response! Our inboxes are flooded. Here’s a short video put together by our Creative Services team.
In May, Ariadna Sanchez, RN, came to Maryland from her hometown of Las Vegas, NV. She is one of more than 300 healthcare professionals who travelled to work at the University of Maryland Laurel Medical Center. Traveling from Pittsburgh, PA, Amanda Sheaffer, RN, is part of the hospital’s rapid response team. These are their stories of working on the front lines of the pandemic.

How did you celebrate Labor Day Weekend this year? Here are some of the ways we celebrated at Maxim: watching the sun rise before an early morning workout, dancing with our kids, feasting on a Maryland staple – blue crabs, hitting the race track, and taking a nature walk.
Congratulations Amanda! Thanks to our Fresno office for sharing this spotlight on their Caregiver of the Month. We love seeing the faces and hearing the stories of our amazing caregivers all around the country!

Congratulations to our Caregiver of the Month, Ms. Amanda Rougeaux!!
Amanda came to us as a fairly new LVN early this year and has personified what a caring and compassionate nurse should be.
We’re lucky to have you!

Today we remember. We remember the 2,977 people we lost. We remember the fearless first responders and essential workers who rushed to the rescue – putting themselves in harm’s way to save lives. On 9/11, we saw police, fire, EMT, and hospital workers band together during a crisis. Many of them developed cancer and other diseases in the years after. When everyone else was afraid and running away from danger, they ran toward it.
Today, we remember and honor their sacrifice.
In this moment, we find ourselves facing a similar crisis. Our country’s healthcare professionals and emergency workers are running toward danger, battling a devastating pandemic. This is a prolonged crisis and it takes resilience and stamina to do this work. Thank you to our fearless frontline workers, then and now. Your heroism will not be forgotten.
Today is Emergency Nurses Day. Today we honor and celebrate our emergency nurses for the work they do every day to care for patients in crisis. This year our emergency nurses face an unprecedented and prolonged crisis from the COVID-19 pandemic. This is exhausting work and nurses nationwide have risen to the challenge. Thank you for your hard work and perseverance. You are the bright spot on your patients’ worst day.

A few weeks ago a team from our Millersville, MD office volunteered at First Fruits Farm. The team spent the day picking produce that will be shared with local food banks, homeless shelters, soup kitchens and other food providers that directly support the homeless population. They harvested over 20,000 pounds of potatoes to support the local community!
Thank you to our Millersville team for sharing this story!

This week we put the spotlight on our 2019 Caregiver of the Year, Mireille Rogers.
Mireille, an LPN from Dighton, Massachusetts, was inspired to go into the healthcare field after witnessing firsthand the impact nurses had on her family when her grandfather was at the end of his life.
This career path led to the home of Jocelyn Van Wart, a child with genetic anomalies that left her completely dependent on others and put her at risk for sudden complications, such as seizures. Jocelyn's parents were relieved to learn they were matched with Rogers, a nurse who could assist in caring for their newborn daughter and who ultimately saved her life when the unexpected happened.

Meet Puja Pandit, RN, from Roseville, CA. In 2012, Puja was assigned to work with Haven, then a nine-year-old diagnosed with Trisomy 13, a chromosomal condition associated with severe intellectual disability and physical abnormalities in many parts of the body.
Haven needed round-the-clock care, which included a gastrostomy tube (G-tube) for feeding and constant monitoring for respiratory issues. Puja formed an immediate bond with Haven and her family and has provided loving care for this young patient for eight years.
“Haven inspired me to go further my education so I could better help her. I do my work because of her,” says Puja.

“I cannot go to sleep at night and feel good until I know that we are winning the battle, making sure that veterans who are entitled to benefits for care receive that care, and have the access that Abe Lincoln promised. This is the sole reason the VA was established over a century ago: to take care of those soldiers who have ‘born the battle,’ and for their families and dependents. It’s our duty to do everything we can to serve those who have served us.” - Paul Davis, National Director of Government Services and Strategic Solutions at Maxim Healthcare Group

Today, we stand united as we pay our respects to those who have served our nation.
About 100 years ago, on November 11, 1918, amidst the global influenza pandemic, fighting ceased at 11:00 a.m. when an armistice was signed ending World War I. This victory would be remembered as Armistice Day. For many years following 1918, individuals paused for a moment of silence as tribute at the “11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month.” Armistice Day soon after evolved into Veterans Day – a day where we honor, salute, and express great appreciation for those who sacrifice for the common good.
This Veterans Day, we honor all those individuals who have selflessly served with integrity, courage, and bravery, so that we are able to live in freedom and with protection.

Growing up, many young boys play superhero and dream of saving the world. In reality, nurses are as close to real-life superheroes as it gets.
While the number of men in nursing is growing, they still represent less than 10 percent of the field. Men who choose careers in nursing often do so because of a strong desire to help others.
“It’s all about people,” says Adetoyi Olatilo, BSN, RN, a clinical manager in Allentown, Pa., who has been with Maxim for 13 years. He thought about becoming a doctor or pharmacist, but ended up falling in love with home health nursing. “I love listening and helping people, especially those who can’t help themselves.”
His decision to become a nurse derived from his mother who is a retired nurse in Nigeria, where he spent his childhood.
