Beautiful EVIE is on Long Island, NY and looking for her #furever #home!
Evie is a 7 month old #shepherd mix. She is the perfect combination of a playful #puppy and #cuddle bug. She is extremely smart. She knows sit, down, paw, stay, come and “gentle” She LOVES being outside! She spends a lot of her time running around the backyard, sunbathing in the grass, and playing fetch. Evie loves kids. She is so good with them, but due to her high energy, she would be best with kids who are slightly older. (She always wants to play, but sometimes doesn’t realize that she is bigger than them.) Evie also loves other dogs. Again, due to her playfulness, she would be best with medium-larger breeds, and no senior dogs. Evie CANNOT be in a home with cats or other small animals.

As our dog’s age, their bodies don’t produce as much of these natural substances/ compounds. That’s why it is so common to see older dog’s on these supplements. What does it take to put muscle on your dog? 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 & 𝗮𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰
**Disclaimer: Take your dog’s breed into consideration. Some breeds are not meant to have bulky muscle on their bodies. Muscle building is not only for young active dogs. There are safe ways to increase muscle strength on older dogs too. ❗️Always consult with a veterinarian prior to working your dog or starting a fitness related program.
• Building muscle requires your dog to eat MORE calories than they were previously eating. The nutrients in these calories are also very important. Your dog’s body needs to consume a high quality, high protein diet to help their muscles recover and grow.
• Start slow and focus on gradual progress to avoid overworking and injuring your dog. It’s exciting to start building up your dog and try new things but you will have a healthier and happier dog when you focus on the small accomplishments first.
• Prioritize REST for your dog. Make sure your dog is getting at least 12 hours of sleep during the day, and that they have their own place to sleep. Rest is essential for recovery, and necessary to build muscle and strength.

With over 25 years of raw feeding experience, one of the most common questions we get is "How can I feed my puppy a healthy raw diet?"
As the raw diet becomes more popular, it is not uncommon for people to start their puppies on a raw diet as soon as they arrive at their new home. Some breeders also start their puppies on raw and will recommend new owners maintain the diet when they get to their new home! This can be a challenge for people who are new to raw feeding.
The most important thing in feeding puppies a raw diet- is a DAILY balanced diet! A lot of raw feeders use balance over time with adult dogs, which is okay! But puppies are in a very important growth phase and need the essential nutrients every day.
We find that one of the easiest ways to feed puppies a raw diet is to start with a premade raw blend that at least meets the nutritional standards established by AAFCO. You want to select a food that is complete and balanced “for all life stages” or “for growth and reproduction”. Both options are suitable for puppies!

How do we achieve balance and purpose in our dog’s lives?
A lot of dog’s form undesirable behaviors because of boredom and unfulfillment in their lives. This is why it is important for us to give our dog’s a purpose and create a lifestyle that consists of things that are fulfilling to them, and can stimulate their brain!
Dopamine release is a chemical signal that tells us we are happy and gives us the emotion and feeling of pleasure. It is a crucial part of our dog’s mental & physical health because it helps regulate behavior, mood, learning, attention, cognition, etc!
Here’s are some basic things you can do almost daily to better your dog’s mental health & wellbeing, and achieve that Dopamine release:
•Give your dog a “job” that gives them a purpose: nose work, retrieving, pulling, herding, searching
•Feed a healthy balanced diet: an unbalanced diet can lead to health issues that cause irritability and discomfort
•Have your dog’s “work” for their meals: even just basic commands will have your dog proactively giving behaviors and thinking about what you are asking of them

Who’s heard the word “chonky” before? It’s a word associated with overweight dogs being cute. Dogs are cute! But you know what’s cuter? A better quality of life!
Many pet owners are not aware that their dogs are overweight and we are not shaming them. It’s important that we normalize what a healthy body weight looks like, and make sure our dog’s are not overeating and getting the physical activity they need.
Canine obesity is nothing to take lightly and it comes with many risks. It is important for you to establish with your veterinarian what a healthy weight for your dog is, but these are some of the risks that can be associated with overweight dogs:
• Canine diabetes: obesity contributes to insulin resistance. Canine diabetes causes a lot of damage in the body, especially when gone untreated. Diabetes can cause a number of serious issues including, but not limited to: enlarged liver, UTIs, kidney failure, and cataracts (can lead to blindness)
• Cancer: excess fat leads to high inflammation in the body and can increase the risk of developing cancer
• Heart disease: dogs with abdominal obesity are more associated with heart disease than overall obesity
• Joint & ligament damage: dog’s that carry excess weight, more than their bodies are made to hold, put more stress on their joints, ligaments, and bones. This causes a higher risk of damage and overall pain/ discomfort.
• Shorter life expectancy: the lifespan of an overweight dog is about 2.5 years shorter than a dog that maintains a healthy body weight

Here are five low impact, easy to teach activities you can do with your dog almost anywhere! These movements help improve your dog’s strength & body awareness. Make sure these movements are performed slow, and purposeful!
1) Balancing on a wobble board
2) “High Five” 3-legged stand
3) Crawling forward and backward under chairs

A warm up is a significant part of any training program and should be treated as a priority before allowing your dog to physically exert themselves. Warming up your dog before activities like agility, fetch, bitework, & running will help decrease the chance of injuries. Giving your dog time to slowly increase their heart rate and bring more oxygen to their muscles will let their bodies become more flexible and ready to support the activity. Most injuries occur when the muscles are cold and contracted.
Warm up activities:
• Walking for at least 3 minutes
• Playing light tug at eye level with the dog, try not to pull & jerk the dog’s head upwards
• Circling left & right, you can use treats to slowly lure in each direction
• Backing up
• Side stepping
• Low level jumps
• Walking figure 8’s
Always consult your veterinarian to make sure these activities and movements are safe for your dog.

Here are five low impact, easy to teach activities you can do with your dog almost anywhere! These movements help improve your dog’s strength & body awareness. Make sure these movements are performed slow, and purposeful!

Similarly to humans, diet is directly related to performance.
We cannot expect our dogs to work and perform at their best if we are not fueling their bodies with the energy and nutrients they need.
Dogs need a diet they can digest quickly and use as energy. The amount of protein, fat, and carbohydrates depends entirely on your dogs individual needs. Dogs do not have a nutritional requirement for carbohydrates but they may be able to provide some value.
Some dogs do best on a diet high in protein & fat, with little to no carbohydrates. Other dogs perform best with a diet that does contain some carbohydrates.
When adding carbohydrates to the diet, we recommend foods that are high quality and highly digestible so they can be used as energy while protein is being used to build and repair.
A high protein diet is always ideal as it promotes muscle growth and works to restore damaged muscles after a training session.
Fat is the primary fuel source for dogs, as well as a biological requirement. Fats play a very important role in the development of cells and help regulate bodily functions.
The best thing to do is pay attention to YOUR dog and what makes them feel best. Pay attention to their body weight, structure, eyes, skin & coat. You can also speak with your veterinarian or a canine nutritionist for more specific guidance.
