About

Professional EMS Bike Patrol for Events and Deployment
EMS “standbys” (when an EMS crew is posted at a large event) are traditionally left to ambulances. But when a medical emergency occurs, and the patient is in the middle of a large crowd, an ambulance alone may not be the best solution. MedCycle EMTs and Paramedics will stand by at your event and respond to medical emergencies. Fully trained and IPMBA certified, MedCycle EMTs and Paramedics are able to reach the patient’s side and render medical care faster than an ambulance. Our bike patrol crews are trained to navigate through crowds and negotiate difficult terrain, such as stairs. Best of all, we provide these services at no cost to the patient.

History/Founding
MedCycle began when Chris Polgar, Paramedic (NREMT-P and MICP), saw bike patrols as a publicity tool for an Emergency Medical Services squad, of which he was Chief. Bikes that had been sitting around unused were deployed with the insignia of the Squad, in order to raise public awareness of the organization. Soon, Polgar learned about IPMBA training and certification, and became determined to develop a high-quality bicycle EMS program for the Squad. When it became clear that volunteer EMS was no longer feasible in the township, the Squad closed, but the bicycle program remained. Polgar saw more uses for the bikes, and even a need for them: they could go where ambulances could not, and could do it faster than an EMT on foot. With 11 years of EMS experience in Mercer County, the former Chief officially founded MedCycle, “to deliver the highest-quality care to patients at no cost, educate the public about safety, and meet the needs of event organizers and Incident Commanders in New Jersey and it’s neighboring areas.”

Mission Statement

Case Study
It happens every day: an ambulance crew is called out for a traumatic injury of a young patient. Now, imagine that this patient is located in a patch of suburban woods, unable to move or use his cell phone. Once they arrive, the crew must locate the patient by foot, carrying their 50 lb. jump bag and long board. The crew walks for 30 minutes before locating the patient, and their location is now unknown to dispatch, except for what information they can provide by radio.

MedCycle bike patrol crews carry the same jump bag equipment on our bikes as ambulance crews, and are GPS located by our command unit. Our personnel are trained to negotiate off road terrain, as well as in nighttime operations and search and rescue strategy. Working with an ambulance crew, the patient could have been located, received initial care and been transported in less time than by an ambulance crew alone.
