This innocent looking skin lesion had been present for 20 years on the bottom of an
otherwise healthy man’s foot. Never painful, but chronically itching and he chonically scratched at it. He sought the attention of an astute podiatrist on Long Island when the area started to bleed. A biopsy was done revealing a rare malignant tumor, with more than casual risk of metastasis. He was immediately referred to me as part of the skin cancer unit of the Tisch Cancer Center at Mount Sinai and the treatment team was mobilized for staging and definitive treatment. We will be operating soon. As is typical of all of these cases, my patient is stunned that you can get cancer on the foot. Message to you: get that thing you’ve been wondering about checked out!
