Medics First continues supporting central Illinois through the work they do including their recent donation to the Memorial Medical Center Emergency Department. Thank you, Medics First of Springfield Illinois!
Through our words and actions, Memorial Health System pledges to fight racism and other forms of discrimination within healthcare and create a culture where everyone feels safe, welcome and included.
For more than three decades, Memorial's Festival of Trees has kicked off the holiday season for families around central Illinois. While carrying on this tradition is important, we also have a commitment to keep our community safe. As our region continues to cope with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the difficult decision not to host an in-person Festival this year. But we know the season just wouldn’t be the same without this beloved event. That’s why we’re excited to announce our first-ever virtual Festival of Trees, with a theme that’s very appropriate for 2020: A Season of Hope. Between Nov. 21 and 29, you’ll be able to take an online tour of our beautifully decorated trees and wreaths and vote for your favorites to support Memorial Medical Center Foundation. Watch for more details in the coming weeks about how you can get involved

The events of recent months have made it clearer than ever that racism has a negative effect on the health of people of color here in central Illinois and across our nation. As healthcare professionals, we have an obligation to take our mission beyond our walls and address the inequities behind the troubling statistics seen here. Memorial Health System is launching a new Equity, Diversity and Inclusion initiative to explore how we can dismantle barriers to care while creating a more welcoming, inclusive environment for all. Visit http://mhs.social/F31i50ASAi1 to learn more about these efforts and read our pledge to our colleagues and the communities we serve.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an opportunity to ask ourselves what we can do to carry on Dr. King’s unfinished work. His message of justice, equal opportunity and service to others is just as resonant today as it was in his lifetime—and just as vital. As healthcare professionals, we dedicate ourselves to examining the legacy of systemic racism within the medical field, reducing the barriers that keep people from accessing the care they need and ensuring that everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Dr. King’s story serves as a reminder that all of us have the ability to change our nation and our world for the better when we unite our voices to call for justice and peace.
