Received a call today from an automated voice stating there were time sensitive issues with my "social security". and criminal charges were threatened. "If you do not want to be arrested then stay on the line ..." was the point I hung up the phone. Most of you know not to provide these people with your information, but if this post helps one person avoid these scams it was worth it.
Federal and Michigan State Income Tax filing deadlines have been postponed from April 15 to July 15, 2020. I will pass on news for Illinois state taxes when I see it. However, if you are expecting a refund, you should go ahead and file now.

If you get a phone call or an email asking for money, telling you that you owe money, threatening lawsuits or criminal punishment, IRS issues, you need to upgrade or protect your computer, or any other type of threatening call or email ... TALK TO SOMEONE ELSE FIRST! Do not act on fear. If it is a live call ask for a number you can reach them at later. Nothing will happen instantly! Talk with someone you trust before you click on anything or make any response. This is a predatory epidemic... please share!

I commented last month about a call an automated voice stating there were time sensitive issues with my "social security". I received a follow-up today saying my SSN had been suspended. I pressed 1 for more information and someone picked up the phone:
Caller: This is the social security administration.
Me: My name is Steven Schafer. I am an attorney. I am recording this call. Who am I speaking with please?
Caller: [hangs up]
