Never forget. There will always be people willing to let innocent people be hurt or killed for their own interests. As long as those people exist, there will also always be those with the courage to fight against them and to stand for the innocent. Never forget.

One of our Wyoming attorneys, Grant Lawson, was interviewed on the podcast, Settlement Nation, to discuss his career fighting forest fires to fighting court battles involving traumatic injuries in oilfield disasters and trucking crashes. He also gives advice for, both, new and experienced attorneys when handling challenging or complex cases.
"I was part of the inaugural class of lawyers that got to go to trucking school in Montana with the Legacy group...I walked out of there with this enormous respect for those massive vehicles and the people behind the wheel. It's so important for them to know what they're doing and that they have to be on point, paying attention and dialed in at all times because it's not like driving a car. It's a 50-80,000 pound missile that commands respect on the road."

Episode 2: Stories from the Legal West and Wild with Grant Lawson - Settlement Nation
A loaded 18-wheeler can weigh 80,000lbs and at 25mph, can deliver over 180,000lbs of force in a crash.
For a regular passenger vehicle, like a Honda Civic or Subaru Impreza, to hit another vehicle with that amount of force, it would have to be traveling over 400mph!
Do you know what to do after a crash?

For years, the data has been showing that distracted driving can be just as dangerous and deadly as drunk driving. PLEASE stay off your phones and focus on driving while you're behind the wheel.

You can be doing everything right on your daily commute. You can be the safest driver who checks their mirrors, drives the speed limit and stays out of blind spots, but disaster can still strike.
Our hearts go out to the families of the people involved in this horrific event.
What do you think happened?
Did the driver have a medical event? Did the driver fall asleep? Did the brakes fail? Was there a mechanical malfunction? Did the driver have the proper training?
Who is at fault? Is the driver? The company that installed the brakes? The brake manufacturer? The employer of the driver?
The families of the people involved deserve answers to these questions and so many more.

What a terrifying sight! Our hearts go out to all of the families of the injured and those who lost their lives.
Passenger car drivers use GPS apps to avoid traffic. Truck drivers rely on teams of people who use multiple layers of information, including weather reports, to adjust travel routes to keep them and other drivers on the highway safe.
A lot of yesterday's devastation could have been avoided.
Profits should never come before people.

When times are tough and money is tight, safety takes a backseat.
More tractor trailers and trains are hauling oil this year and unfortunately, there will be an increased number of devastating crashes and disasters.
Truck crashes can almost always be avoided by giving drivers the breaks they need, providing the proper training, delivering the safest routes, ensuring maintenance is performed properly and hiring the right people.
We hope all those injured in this crash will recover.
