White Kitchens Are Getting Kicked to the Curb
This client engaged our design services to expand the kitchen and living room spaces in a mid-century modern ranch style house in Sarasota's Southgate neighborhood. The design challenge was to create a modern great room with space that would provide open areas for gathering and entertaining friends while preparing meals, as well as accommodate a large art installation. We started with a confined U-shaped eat-in kitchen that accommodated a small dining table for two. Keeping nearly the same footprint, we removed a small wall to merge the kitchen and living room spaces. We designed a large galley island with waterfalls on both ends and seating space for four people. The large perimeter cabinets provide ample under-counter storage as well as space for a small wine cooler. The color palette is black and white, so as not to compete with the original terrazzo floors.

Our client's Indian Beach kitchen is warm, cozy—and has stylish storage in spades.
The entire bathroom in this Five Points condo was re-done—removing the bathtub and increasing the shower size to allocate room for a bench. Glass was used to increase the overall feel of the room and to protect the area from water. Working in tandem with the homeowners allowed us to triple the necessary storage area, maximize the countertop space and provide ample his-and-her drawer space.

In this kitchen, we used clean lines to enhance the home's overall modern design. The ventilation system is a non-typical hood design that keeps the space more open and clean. The countertop material was used on the island to anchor each end providing a structural stable feature. Wall cabinets were strategically placed to keep storage in the secondary kitchen and leave the negative space in the main kitchen for art. And at 96 inches, wall and tall cabinets were finished to allow the ceiling to soar above.
