I read a very good article about depression. See what you all think of this. I definitely find that in my work with clients, depression can often be alleviated without medication. The combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy along with self-care seemed to be most helpful for me clients.

Depression Not Caused by Chemical Imbalance
ANXIETY!!!
Experiencing anxiety in your life does not mean you are weak or don’t have enough faith. Having anxiety means that your brain has been working overtime to protect you.
Your brain has gotten into a pattern of thinking that was helpful when you were younger but it may not be working that well now. Maybe you do some forecasting/fortune-telling kind of thoughts about the bad things that could happen to you and your loved ones.
We all have done this as children. As children our brains work overtime to protect ourselves from negative consequences. We anticipate when Mom or Dad would get mad and what they would do. We then take action to do things to make Mom and Dad happy. When we are successful, feel relieved when we can prevent them or those in authority from getting upset at us and not incur their wrath or unpleasant consequences.
If you did that during your formative years and didn’t turn that habit off in your brain, you may be causing yourself a lot of anxiety and tension in your body that may even lead to feel physical pain. If that is the case, you should seek out a therapist to help you with changing your pattern of thinking so you can have less pain and anxiety. You can turn that habit off in your brain and worry less in your life. Here is something you can try. This is not a panacea; it takes time to learn a new habit.
For forcasting/fortune-telling, first, you have to catch yourself thinking that way and then challenge your thoughts by asking yourself questions that will help you get out of your negative thought pattern.
Let’s say you forecast that your boss will fire you when you heard that your co-worker who has been slacking off was let go.
Ask yourself:
1. What is the likelihood of that happening me? Think in terms of percentages: Look at your good work ethic and ask yourself, “What is the likelihood of them firing an excellent worker? Think in terms of ratios. How often have they just fired someone without giving them a performance review?
2. What evidence do I have that supports this particular thought? What evidence disproves the thought?
3. Face your fears: Ask yourself, “If I actually got fired, how would I handle it? How will I continue to enjoy my life and relationships? What can I do to put myself in a better place?
4. What can I focus on doing to improve my situation?
The key to overcoming anxiety is focusing on what you can do instead of what you have no control over. When we focus on what we can do, we will feel more empowered.
Try it and see how it works!!
