🚰 Preventing Frozen Water Pipes
➛ It is less expensive to run your faucet regularly than to repair a frozen or burst
pipe.
➛ When temperatures remain below freezing over the course of several days, water
pipes and water meters exposed to cooler air may freeze.
➛ Below are some helpful suggestions to make sure your water supply stays flowing this winter.
❄️ Eliminate the Cold
• Install storm windows on basement windows.
• Fill cracks in walls around basement windows.
• Turn off water to an outside spigot at an inside valve and drain the exposed pipe.
💡Provide Warmth
• Wrap water pipes in insulation or heat tape.
• If a sink is located against an outside wall, insulate the wall.
• Place a lighted bulb near water pipes – never use open flames.
• Open the door to rooms where water pipes are located to allow circulation.
💧 Use Your Water Supply
• Run the cold water from the lowest fixture in the house at a stream the width of a
pencil.
• Make sure your drain remains clear to prevent overflow or flooding.
