Sometimes kidney stones will not dissolve on their own. At that point they may need to be surgically removed. To remove a smaller stone in your ureter or kidney, your surgeon may pass a thin lighted tube (ureteroscope) equipped with a camera through your urethra and bladder to your ureter. Once the stone is located, special tools can snare the stone or break it into pieces that will pass in your urine. Your surgeon may then place a small tube (stent) in the ureter to relieve swelling.
October is Breast Cancer awareness month. Early detection can save your life! Make sure you are performing a monthly self exam and having yearly mammograms.

You never want to let constipation go untreated after a surgery. It can lead to a surgical incision reopening, hemorrhoids and fecal impaction to name a few.

Sometimes a healthy diet and over-the-counter medicines aren't enough to treat hemorrhoids. Often times surgery is a better long-term choice, especially if your hemorrhoids are large and very painful or bleeding.
Laparoscopic surgery leads to a quicker recovery and less post-operative pain than traditional surgery.
Here are some ways you can try to lessen your child's anxiety about having surgery: -Listen to your child. -Be honest about what will happen. -Use short, simple terms to explain things. -Encourage questions and expression of fears. -Let your child know that having to go to the hospital does not mean he or she has done something wrong.

The main cause for needing an appendectomy is a blockage in the lining of the appendix that results in infection, and is the likely cause of appendicitis. The bacteria multiply rapidly, causing the appendix to become inflamed, swollen and filled with pus. If not treated promptly, the appendix can rupture. #CentralKYGeneralSurgery #surgeon #hospital #generalsurgeon #surgery #healthcare

Lymph node removal is a surgical procedure to take out one or more of your lymph nodes. Your doctor may recommend you have this procedure if you’ve been diagnosed with cancer. There are two main reasons for removing lymph nodes. If you have cancer, one or more lymph nodes may be removed to check whether it has spread. Knowing this helps your doctor plan the best treatment for you. Secondly, if tests have shown that the cancer has reached your lymph nodes, you may have them taken out to remove the cancer. This helps to reduce the chance of your cancer coming back. #CentralKYGeneralSurgery #surgeon #hospital #generalsurgeon #surgery #healthcare

An Upper GI Endoscopy is a procedure done by using a long, flexible tube called an endoscope. The tube has a tiny light and video camera on one end. The tube is put into your mouth and throat. Then it is slowly pushed through your esophagus and stomach, and into your duodenum. Video images from the tube are seen on a monitor. These can be used to: -Take tissue samples for a biopsy -Remove things such as food that may be stuck in the upper GI tract -Inject air or fluid -Stop bleeding -Do procedures such as endoscopic surgery, laser therapy, or open (dilate) a narrowed area #CentralKYGeneralSurgery #surgeon #hospital #generalsurgeon #surgery #healthcare
A hernia occurs if an organ pushes through a weakened area of the body cavity that normally contains it. With a hiatal hernia, a portion of the upper stomach protrudes up through the diaphragm (the dome-shaped sheet of muscle that separates the chest cavity from the abdomen) into the chest cavity. #CentralKYGeneralSurgery #surgeon #generalsurgeon #surgery

The medical term for gallbladder removal surgery is cholecystectomy. It is a low-risk, standard surgical procedure that may provide relief to those experiencing pain from gallstones. To remove the gallbladder, your surgeon will make precise incisions through which they insert a tiny video camera and special surgical tools. Laparoscopic procedures allow doctors to see and work inside the abdomen without making a large cut, which reduces both the risk of infection and the recovery time. #CentralKYGeneralSurgery #surgeon #generalsurgeon #surgery

A Lumpectomy is a surgery to remove cancer from the breast. Unlike a mastectomy, a lumpectomy removes only the tumor and a small rim of normal tissue around it. It leaves most of the breast skin and tissue in place. With a lumpectomy, the breast looks as close as possible to how it did before surgery. Most often, the general shape of the breast and the nipple area are kept. #CentralKYGeneralSurgery #Surgeon #GeneralSurgeon
