When we talk about adding electric vehicles (EVs) to fleets, managers usually have the same questions: 1. How would I go about setting up my on-site charging? And... 2. Are there enough public EV charging stations for longer trips?
Many fleets that route between local charging hubs can plan to charge at the beginning and end of a trip. Fleet managers should read up on the difference in AC Level 1 & 2 and DC fast chargers.
And with the expected massive growth of EV, experts predict we’re going to see more charging stations in the next five years... and the global EV charging stations market will have a 30.41 billion dollar value by 2023.

Electric trucks are still a far-off concept to many, but they are coming a lot sooner than you might think.
There are currently well over a million EVs currently on the road in the U.S., and experts predict there will be 18.7 million on roads by 2030. That means now is the time to start thinking about electric truck procurement for your fleet.
Are electric trucks really better than diesel right now? Here's our two cents:
Pros:
⚡️ Save money through EV tax credits
⚡️ Cut out fuel and maintenance costs exponentially
⚡️ Be two steps ahead of competitors
Cons:
⛽️ Currently expensive
⛽️ Adoption of electric trucks is still foreign
⛽️ Long distances & weather can cause trouble

Fleet management is complicated. It’s nonstop. And when you’re in the midst of managing tens or hundreds of vehicles, it’s easy to miss the “check engine” light warning or to put off that routine maintenance check.
But when you implement a driver & fleet vehicle tracking system, your life gets easier from the get-go. You’ll receive red alerts from your ticketing system that require immediate attention, get notified when vehicles are recalled for safety, and ensure you’re picking the right vehicle for the job.

Do you know the myths & truths of electric vehicles?
MYTH: Battery replacement will be cost-prohibitive. ❌
TRUTH: There is nearly zero maintenance on EVs within first 100k miles. Batteries degrade, and rarely need to be replaced. ✅
MYTH: Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is high because battery replacement is inevitable. ❌
TRUTH: Asset depreciation — due to range and incentives — is the culprit. ✅
MYTH: You must buy the longest-range option available. ❌
TRUTH: Most daily driving behavior is within the shortest-range available options. ✅

Did you know your rising maintenance costs may be due in part to a technician shortage? A high demand for auto service, combined with the extra time they need to spend on new and complicated technology, translates to rising costs.
To ensure fair prices, consider turning to a maintenance program that's managed by ASE-certified technicians. Armed with industry benchmarks and practical experience, these technicians advocate for you by mitigating unnecessary repairs and charges.

If someone gave you a plan to save 15-25% per vehicle, per year… you’d think it’s too good to be true, right?
Let us break it down for you in two words: managed maintenance.
Under a managed maintenance plan, you can simplify scheduling, minimize wait time and remove your driver as the middleman… and you’ll reduce the likelihood of a costly repair down the road. You’ll gain better fuel economy, optimize your vehicles for re-selling, and start documenting records for better vehicle health insight. Your driver will thank you and so will your bottom line.

Did you know? ➡️ Two out of three U.S. drivers distrust auto repair shops to give them a fair price.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. The labor rates you’re being charged + the price of parts should always fall in line with industry benchmarks. And that means understanding the intricacies of the makes & models of all your fleet vehicles.
Where do you begin? It starts with staying informed, so you can be sure you’re making the right maintenance decisions. We compiled the research so you don’t have to.

“I have friends that have vehicles and they’re always worried about different things, like… ‘Oh, I’ve got to get a new vehicle’ or ‘maintenance is taking forever,’” said Joe Kuhn, of Contech, an engineering site solutions company. “But (with Mike Albert), if you start to have an issue with a truck, you just call Mike Albert and they take care of all the maintenance. It simplifies my life a tremendous amount.”
When the core function of your business isn’t measuring fleet mileage, it can be a big hassle to find someone to monitor it day in and day out. With 150 sales engineers, on the road who must rely on their vehicles to operate, it’s important to have working vehicles.
The best part about switching to Mike Albert, Joe said, was that the company’s variable costs became a fixed cost. They can predict their company vehicle costs month in and month out, making planning easier. And they’ve even begun to look at Mike Albert’s strategies to see how they can apply to their forklifts.

Around the world, cities are getting smarter. The more you start seeing EVs on the road, the more likely you are to start seeing self-driving cars, too. In smart cities, you'll find everything from autonomous buses to fleets of shared bikes and e-scooters, to intelligent systems for traffic congestion.
By using Internet-of-Things (IoT) infrastructure to connect, smart cities are changing the way we interact with technology in urban areas.
While smart cities can lead to a cleaner, safer and less crowded place, the adoption of this tech comes with its challenges, too. Read more about what kind of tech is coming to smart cities: http://ow.ly/uPIe50CyjNw
The life of a typical vehicle goes something like this…
• First 50K miles — Low-cost repairs like oil changes & tire rotations
• 50K-150K miles — Higher-cost repairs like brake and tire replacements
• 150K miles+ — Skyrocketed maintenance costs that outweigh car value
So when you have a whole fleet of vehicles, it’s all about timing. Should they stay or should they go? When you try to depreciate vehicles down to their $0 “bitter end,” you end up overpaying in maintenance costs that you won’t get back when you sell the vehicle.
Only pay for what you use. Read our guide about when to buy, sell or trade your vehicles: http://ow.ly/3dIZ50CGd96

Meet the man behind Mike Albert... Mike Albert himself!
Did you know we've been a family business for almost 100 years?
Mike Albert founded our company in 1928. After he retired, he passed the torch to his nephew, Bob Betagole. Today, Bob's daughter, Marty Betagole, is our company's CEO.
In that time, we've transformed from being just a used car dealership in 1928 to a fleet leasing company in 1957. Mike Albert currently has more than 200 staff members and has sales, rental, subscription, upfit and fleet management services.

You’ve probably seen fleets of e-scooters and bikes around your city. We call that “shared micromobility” — any communal fleet of small, partially human-powered, single-occupant vehicles. They’re most often used for short trips in urban areas.
Micromobility facts:
🚖 60 percent of every trip you take is between 0-5 miles.
🚗 Half of all car trips last less than 3 miles in big cities.
🚲 Bikes are most often used for 1-3 mile trips.
🛴 Scooters are usually used for trips between a half mile and a mile.
🛵 In 2018, Americans took 84 million trips on shared micromobility — double the year before.

Get a free sixth vehicle for every five you lease.
No, this isn't a special offer... it's just a product of our matched-depreciation strategy.
Under a regular depreciation strategy, you might depreciate your vehicles to zero, then pay taxes on the amount you sell it for.
But under a matched depreciation strategy, you'll depreciate it to its remaining book value. This way, you’re only paying for what you use as opposed to over-paying. Since it’s on a 60-month payment plan, you’re still hitting the sweet spot to avoid over depreciation with aging vehicles.
We cover matched depreciation in-depth, and answer questions like:
• What happens when you take a vehicle to the bitter end?
• What really goes into total cost of ownership (TCO)?
• How do I minimize my TCO?
• Should I take the section 179 deduction for ownership?
• What should I look for in a finance strategy specialist?

The Internet-of-Things (IoT): it’s how cities stay connected to people.
🔈 Your “Alexa” speaker uses IoT when she tells you the weather
⌚️ Your Apple Watch uses IoT when monitoring your steps
🛒 Grocery stores use IoT to track your path throughout a store
The number of IoT connected devices will reach 1 trillion by 2025 — a number of which will be in smart cities.
While smart cities have a fair bit of challenges (like data privacy), connecting the world can make it safer and more sustainable.

When you adopt a vehicle life cycle strategy, you get far more than simple cost cutting.
🚙 Unplanned repairs in an old fleet disrupts your cash flow. But refreshing a young fleet every 5 years is a flat expense. Reliable vehicles are the foundation on which you can build your reputation.
🚙 Consistently showing up on time, in a well-maintained vehicle delivers a strong message. Running late can leave customers frustrated, and cancelations could lose you major business.
🚙 Adding your company’s mark to the side of a new vehicle gives you free advertising just from driving... and you won’t be embarrassed if it’s on an old clunker.

Thinking about getting rid of your used vehicles in exchange for new ones? Don't fall for these remarketing myths:
MYTH: The best offer on my used vehicle will be the first offer. ❌
TRUTH: Sometimes you can yield $1,500 or more when you hold out for a better offer. ✅

TRUTH: A nimble fleet management company often has a reach far beyond their city's headquarters. ✅

Want to hear a piece of good news from 2020? We saw the used car market explode like it never has before.
Experts predict the boom was due in part to a low supply and an extremely high demand for cars. For consumers, that demand came from:
• Excess income with stimulus package
• More caution towards ride-sharing, growing desire to own personal vehicles
• Extra free time amid lockdowns and closures

Adding new vehicles to a fleet is an overwhelming task. When Omniscapes LLC (a landscaping company) was in the middle of ordering 6 new trucks from a local dealer, they had some questions...
• Where am I going to find the capital to fund 6 new vehicles?
• How much cash do I need to set aside for 6 snow plows and salt spreaders?
• Who is going to help coordinate the installation of all the extra equipment on 6 trucks at the same time?
At Mike Albert, we came in to help Omniscapes at the perfect time, working with our vendors to coordinate and streamline the buying process. The company was able to get their new vehicles while still preserving cash in the bank and leaving lines of credit for other business growth needs.

Are you the right person to start a fleet of e-scooters or bikes in your city? Or could you implement micromobility into your company’s fleet? Is this even the right time to be thinking about all this?
Micromobility refers to single-occupant, partially human-powered vehicles (like scooters or bikes) primarily used for short-distance trips. In a tumultuous year for the ride-sharing industry, micromobility may be the answer people are looking for for short-distance trips in big cities. 🚲

Did you know these facts about electric vehicles? 🚘⚡️
⚡️ Charging an EV costs ten times less than gassing up – the cost is further reduced when you charge at non-peak hours.
⚡️ An EV has about 20 moving parts, while combustion vehicles have about 2,000 – making EVs more reliable to maintain.
⚡️ The upfront purchase price for EVs is steadily dropping due to the falling cost of lithium-ion batteries.
It may be in your best interest to charge forward with EVs for your fleet. Learn more here: http://ow.ly/xurh50D0zEO

Fleet owners often have long, stressful days. On top of running a business, they also have to deal with invoicing, registration, fuel cards, driver expenses, quoting, ordering, preventive maintenance, breakdowns... the list goes on. These administrative tasks eat up precious time, and reduce overall fleet efficiency.
Outsourcing these tasks to an experienced fleet manager doesn't just save fleet owners time. It can also save your business money in the long run, through:
• Forecasting the optimal time to cycle out aging vehicles
• Ensuring each vehicle is the right size & configuration for maximum productivity
• Fending off major repairs to retain a higher resale value

"We sell beer. We're not in the truck fixing game."
For Ohio Eagle Distributing, a beer distributor in southwest Ohio, business used to be simple. But over the last several years, they went from selling 10 products to more than 800. That's why they needed a partner to help them:
• Uncover operational inefficiencies
• Manage fuel costs
• Optimize delivery of last-minute orders through hilly routes
They'd heard good things about our team at Mike Albert and decided to put our skills to the test. We didn't disappoint. We helped the company:
• Thoroughly evaluate their data
• Customize their single-axle trailers to accommodate side loading
• Downsize their Econoline vans to compact Transit Connect vans, reducing fuel usage
In the end, Ohio Eagle Distributing's maintenance costs went from $20,000 a month to $2,000. With fewer vehicle breakdowns, they now hold just 2 spare vehicles instead of 6. Read more about our work here: http://ow.ly/cDdP50DdtQb

You should be as thoughtful and strategic about the disposal of your vehicle as you are about acquiring it in the first place. That's why you need in-depth information about the remarketing process.
When you hear about vehicle remarketing, you may hear things like... "the best offer is your first offer," or "physical auctions always yield the best return." These are myths we've debunked, and there are more where that came from.

In 2019, we sold 75 percent of our fleet remarketing vehicles within 30 days of vehicle grounding. Our competitors may boast a slightly quicker turnaround. But unlike other fleet management companies, we often won’t sell the first time — and that averages $1500 more in your wallet.

A few months ago, one of our clients shared the following story about how they saved $875+ thanks to Albert IQ...
The client got a notification from our vehicle monitoring program, Albert IQ, about an engine coolant temp code. According to the dashboard, the unit was in danger of overheating. They called the driver right away and asked him to stop at the nearest vendor.
The verdict? The vehicle had thrown the serpentine belt. It cost $125 to replace. The stop took about an hour out of the driver’s day.
If this had not been acted on immediately, the unit would probably have overheated, and the client would have been looking at a head gasket replacement (at the very least) — a repair that can cost over $1,000 and taken much more time to repair.
To prevent breakdowns, major repairs and unauthorized use that lose you money, safety, and productivity — turn to our AlbertIQ monitoring platform. See what else AlbertIQ can do for you here: http://ow.ly/evl550Dhtdj

Morgan Kauffman, CEO of Columbus Yellow Cab, knew he had a big responsibility when he took over his grandfather's 92-year-old taxi business.
But his grandfather didn't face the same difficulties of owning a fleet of taxis today (a pandemic, increasingly worse climate crisis, and competition from tech giants like Uber and Lyft).
After looking at the essential business from the inside out, Kauffman decided they were done "polluting central Ohio" with combustion engines, and aimed to switch to an electric & hybrid fleet of cabs.
Mike Albert helped Columbus Yellow Cab electrify their fleet and also assisted with administrative tasks like applying for grant funding and monetizing federal EV tax credits.

More than 75% of repair shops estimate that customers who forget or ignore manufacturers’ recommended maintenance could save $100 or more per visit if they properly maintained their vehicles. So that old "Don't fix it if it ain't broke" is not only dangerous, but also expensive.
Maintenance data allows you to see just how valuable certain metrics can be to your bottom line. For example, a data expert may see that one fleet's cargo vans regularly start incurring major repairs at 150,000 miles. They can help you make a plan to cycle these vans out before they become problems, and give recommendations for more reliable models.

All too often, people underestimate the power of electric vehicles. But at Mike Albert, our experts are routinely looking through EV data. Time and time again, we find that EVs are only going to become more affordable and efficient.
Depreciation, fuel and maintenance costs take a much bigger toll on ICE vehicles than you might think. When you compare the total cost of ownership to similar ICE vehicles over the same amount of time & miles, it's often more cost-effective to go electric.

If you follow us at all, you know we love to talk about battery electric vehicles (BEVs). But BEVs aren't always a perfect fit for every fleet. Conventional hybrids (or mild hybrids) are a great alternative, combining combustion and electric.
The biggest benefit? Conventional hybrids are like BEVs, but they take range anxiety out of the equation. That means...
You won't have to rethink your routes or install charging infrastructure.
You have a vast variety of hybrids to choose from.
And you'll probably have an easier time selling it when it's time for remarketing.

Fleet 1: Ron purchased his fleet of 50 with the intent to drive them til the wheels fall off. He has no monthly payments on his vehicles.
Fleet 2: Sharon has a fleet of 50 leased vehicles, and she has a predictable payment schedule each month.
Which fleet do you think would prove to be more successful? If you guessed Fleet 2, we agree.
The older your vehicles get and the more mileage you put on them, the higher your maintenance costs will skyrocket. That's why we help our clients strategize a predictable vehicle life cycle with high-quality vehicles.

Are you excited about the future of fleets, but nowhere near ready to commit to battery electric vehicles? Before you pull the trigger on more combustion vehicles, let's talk hybrids.
⛽️ Hybrids charge through regenerative braking, so you'll cut your fuel costs significantly. A combustion vehicle will only burn gasoline to move.
🚙 Hybrids will give your brand a positive image. With 60 percent of people saying they think about a company's environmental impact when deciding from whom to purchase, that's huge.
💰 When you factor in similar maintenance and lease payments with far lower fuel costs, the total cost of ownership for hybrids is often lower than comparable gas vehicles.

Electric vehicle or hybrid... which is right for your fleet?
Here are some reasons your fleet might be ideal to take on some hybrid vehicles:
🚕 Less change. When you take on EVs, you either have to factor in route planning to include time for charging, or you have to install charging stations at your garage. Plus, you'll need to make sure your drivers get the hang of driving an electric model.
🚚 Greater variety. There are only about 19 battery electric vehicle models available in the United States as compared to almost 130 hybrids. And hybrids are widely available in larger models like pickup trucks and SUVs.
🚙 Better remarketing options. Until battery electric vehicles become more popular, there's not a huge market for people looking for used EVs.

The administrative burden of your fleet doesn't always fall on one person. Your finance manager may be keeping track of maintenance management, the director of operations might keep an eye on the fuel invoices, and the fleet owner is trying to stay on top of the vehicles' life cycle strategy.
All of this can result in lost data, downtime, and ultimately money.

"If you had to purchase a new furnace for your house, you’d probably invest in a newer model. One that was more efficient, with newer technology that would last. You wouldn’t put the same furnace back in and expect better results. You should treat your fleet’s garage the same, with an eye toward sustainability and efficiency."
Greening up your garage goes beyond just adding EV charging stations. You can also...
• Update your equipment with smart technology
• Commit to going paperless
• Get your building certified as energy efficient
• Hire an environmental specialist to lead the charge.

🚕 Less change. When you take on EVs, you either have to factor in route planning to include time for charging, or you have to install charging stations at your garage. Plus, you'll need to make sure your drivers get the hang of driving an electric model.
