On this International Day of Peace, Miniapple students walk the Butterfly Peace Path. The Butterfly Peace Path provides us the opportunity to slow down, take time to reflect and find inner peace. The labyrinth is an ancient, powerful meditation tool for realizing balance and inner calm. Together, the butterfly and the labyrinth provide us with an inviting, accessible, and kinesthetic opportunity to fully embody peace as a way of being in the world. https://miniapplemontessori.com/ ☮️ #InternationalDayOfPeace #peace
"I wanted to send a thank you note to Miss Nou. 💌 My child had her kindergarten assessment for letters and sounds and she got 49/52 letter names correct (upper and lowercase combined) and 19/26 letter sounds - which the teacher thought was 'super awesome' and that she was way ahead of the curve! The time spent at Miniapple is definitely paying off in her early kindergarten days! Thank you Miss Nou and Miniapple! " https://miniapplemontessori.com 🦋 ☮️

Or work together with your child to create your own checklist. Toddlers may enjoy collecting nature items in a wagon they can push or pull. Preschoolers can put their finds in an easy to carry egg carton. Babies will enjoy feeling all the different textures that nature has to offer. "What the hand does, the mind remembers." - Dr. Maria Montessori The Montessori sandpaper letters provide a multi-sensory approach to learning letter sounds. Our Guide (Teacher) shows your child how to use two fingers to trace the letter while repeating the sound. The tactile feel of the letter helps your child to gain muscle memory to internalize its shape. Once the presentation is completed, your child can explore the material as often and for as long as they choose. https://miniapplemontessori.com 🍎 #Montessori #MontessoriMonday

It may look like winter, but it's still autumn! Pumpkin hammering is a fall favorite! Wearing protective eyewear, students use a child-size hammer to pound nails into the pumpkin. This activity strengthens fine-motor muscles, develops concentration, and refines coordination of movement. Adapt it for toddlers by halving the pumpkin to provide a stable base, using golf tees instead of nails, and partially pounding the tees in or creating holes in advance. Our health nurse from Health Consultants for Child Care, who consults with each of our schools monthly, shared the following article on what to know about the flu while still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Moveable Alphabet prepares your child for writing, reading and spelling. It allows the child to write before they are physically ready to hold a pencil and make letters. Once our student is comfortable putting sounds together to form phonetic words, we introduce spelling rules one phonogram at a time (“sh” below). Our Guide (Teacher) works with the child for the first presentation, then they are free to take the material and explore, write stories, etc. https://miniapplemontessori.com 🍎 #schoolreadiness #kindergartenreadiness

Caring for our feathered friends! Your child can thread O-shaped cereal onto a pipe cleaner (or string, for older children), bend into a fun shape or attach several together. Hang on a tree outside your window. Older children may enjoy watching the birds through binoculars, sketching the birds, creating stories about the birds, or taking photos. Young children may enjoy observing the birds, singing bird songs, learning the names of different birds, reading bird stories and pretending to fly like a bird. 🦅 https://miniapplemontessori.com/ 🍎
Curious Parenting November 14 at 12:03 AM · It’s hard to set limits if you can’t bear to let your child be upset.⁣ ⁣ When we bend over backward to keep children from feeling sad or disappointed, we take away pain that belongs to them. We also forgo the chance to teach them they will always be safe, loved and supported, no matter their emotions.⁣ ⁣ Instead of creating a place where they can experience their deepest sorrows with people they trust (us!), we force them to fully experience those things for the first time when we aren’t there to support them. ⁣ ⁣ In my classes, the children whose parents constantly jump through hoops to make sure they never feel sad or disappointed are the ones who cry the hardest and longest when faced with tough feelings. It’s as if they’re letting out all the stored up disappointment they weren’t allowed to feel at home. ⁣ ⁣ By freeing ourselves from feeling like we must do whatever we can to rescue our children from their hard feelings, we free children from having to feel a certain way in order to get the love and affection they need. 🦕 This post was made possible by Patreon support. I laminated them so Nora (and Lila — she also loves them!) can do them over and over again with a dry erase marker. I think I’ll make some flower symmetry drawing cards for Spring! Curious Parenting February 6 at 9:47 PM · What’s the wildest question a kid has ever asked you? Tell us in the comments!⁣ ⁣ These days the wildest mysteries and peculiarities of nature are just a click away. How can we keep a sense of wonder alive when all the information in the world is at our fingertips? ⁣ ⁣ When kids ask questions, it can feel like they expect us to explain everything to them. Often, they just want to share their curiosity with us, and infect us with their excitement.⁣ ⁣ If we want to inspire kids to love learning, let's respond in a way that might encourage their curiosity, rather than answering every last “why” with an explanation. We can share in their wonder at the world, and help them discover ways they might follow that wonder.⁣ ⁣ When kids ask why dinosaurs have feathers, how the sky got so pink, or what made the ocean is so salty, we could respond:⁣ ⁣ 🌈 “What an interesting question!”⁣ ⚡ “I wonder about that too.”⁣ 🌈 “How do you think we can find out?”⁣ ✨ “What do you think might be happening?”⁣ 🌈 “Where can we learn more about this?”⁣ ⁣ We want to cultivate a sense of wonder. We want to empower kids to feed their minds and explore with curiosity.⁣ ⁣ Follow @curious.parenting for more on raising curious, resilient kids.⁣
Good reminder! Little Farm Montessori February 4 at 10:29 PM · Expectations for our children that are NOT developmentally appropriate is as if someone asked us to run a marathon without giving us time to train or learn tools to be successful. Would we feel overwhelmed? Discouraged? Would we feel like a constant failure? Probably. This can be how our children feel when we have expectations for them they simply don’t have the ability or capacity to meet. We and our child may find less feelings of frustration when we adjust our expectations to match where they are in their development. There are sooooo many expectations we put on our children. I often catch myself doing this and it doesn’t serve me or my child well. It’s time to LET. THEM. GO. Feel that pressure leaving? Now, doesn’t that feel good?! What expectations can you let go? .
