Hey, everyone.
We see these sorts of faux articles in the newspaper pretty regularly nowadays, and we just want to do our part to draw attention to the fact that they are essentially just scams.
They are merely advertisements for and by the Federated Mint, which is in no way associated with the U.S. government. These advertisements read like news articles, and you find them in the newspaper, so it is easy to get confused by them.
The most recent scam we've seen is being advertised as a three pound bag of US coins no longer seen in circulation. Based on the specific coins guaranteed by the ad, we've created multiple estimates as to what the bag genuinely holds and what value to give it. A conservative estimation would make the asking price of the bag at nearly *twice as much as full retail price*, and a very liberal estimation still places the bag priced several hundred dollars higher than it should be.
We bring this to your attention simply because we hate to hear folks overpaying for something that they think will be valuable, only to find out that they've been scammed!! If you're ever not sure if you're getting a good deal on something related to coin, bullion, or currency, we highly encourage you to give us a call, even if it is just to pick our brains a bit. We want every one of our customers to feel confident and educated in their purchases, and we're always happy to help in that regard.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays, everyone! We hope to see you all soon!
