His response: “It’s a time to appreciate what should be appreciated every day. It’s a time to celebrate the uncelebrated, and I’m honored to receive recognition. Growing up, you hear all about these Black figures in history. I guess it never really crossed my mind that I would one day be celebrated.”

This Black History Month, we’re highlighting Black artists who continue to inspire us. So we asked the talented Yetunde Sapp what inspires her.
Her response, “I am inspired by the world around me, the people, the color, the culture, and try to incorporate that into my work when I can. I saw this quote once that read, ‘I am my ancestors wildest dreams’ and I feel that whole-heartedly. The path that they took to get where they were going has made way for me to believe in my own future and that, to me, is amazing. I feel empowered knowing that I have their shoes to fill, and that I can because they could.”
