And they call it puppy love💖💖💖✨✨
We ❤️your 5 Star Reviews. Our lovely 12 year old Labrador woke one morning scared and shivering, and not eating (big red flag for a lab!). Our regular vet was unable to see him and sent us on to this emergency vet. From the moment we arrived we felt cared for and respected. They ran tests, and answered calls in the middle of the night as we waited for results. In no time our guy had his dangerously enlarged spleen removed; now he's feeling better than ever. We appreciated their high level of care for pets, and their people (so reassuring to be able to contact the vet 24/7!); now this is our new regular vet! helen shamble
Cats and dogs sometimes chew or nibble plants. Some cats dig in the pots and toss dirt everywhere. If you have pets that think the plants are their “tiny” garden, consider hanging plants or moving them where your pets can’t access them. If the plants you have are poisonous and can make your pet ill, see if your friends want them and replace them with safer species.
Here's More Proof That Dogs Are the Best Your dog really is helping you be more healthy Well, it's official: life really is better with dogs. According to BarkBox's recent Dog Parent Study, canines "overwhelmingly have had a positive impact on a range of emotional, behavioral and even physical qualities in their people." Which basically means that dogs make their owners better, happier, and healthier humans. Not bad in exchange for some food, love, and unlimited ear scratches! https://www.southernliving.com/culture/pets/dogs-health-happiness-pets SOUTHERNLIVING.COM Here's More Proof That Dogs Are the Best
Fall Safety Tips🍂🍂🍂 Keep School Supplies Out of Paws’ Reach Fall is back-to-school time, and those of you with young children know that means stocking up on items like glue sticks, pencils and magic markers. Although these items are considered low toxicity to pets, gastrointestinal upset and blockages can occur if ingested. Be sure your children keep their school supplies out of your pet’s reach
We love your 5 Star Reviews. Amazing service and care provided by the staff here! My one year old pit ended up having a bad tummy ache that we thought might be parvo. I was able to bring her into the office to be treated and thankfully the test came back negative. I also want to state I was very happy that I was consulted before anything happened, they came out and asked if I want to test our pup or just treat her with some meds I decided to go with testing her for parvo just to rule it out and glad that I did! The consultation, parvo test, injection and meds all cost $250 so relieved to not get a huge bill in this already stressful time! As a first time dog mom, lots of things are scary when it comes to things your pups may be expierencing and im definitely thankful for the staff providing me reassurance and support while my pup was treated with great care! I am thankful for the time the vet spent with my fur baby and appreciate that I got to take my healthy dog home because of the wonderful care provided here. If I could give 10 stars I would!!! Thanks again to the staff here that helped us in our time in need! https://www.yelp.com/biz/monterey-peninsula-veterinary-emergency-and-specialty-center-monterey-2?sort_by=date_desc
We love your 5 Star Reviews. Thank you Annarose H. This clinic is amazing. We brought our sweet girl Skyler in for some troubling behaviors and they performed emergency surgery on her until 2am and saved her life. Dr. Herrmann even called us when she had woken up and let us know how she'd handled the surgery and how she was doing. It has been two years since that night and she is healthy and happy and we are so grateful. This clinic and its 24-hour committed staff are an invaluable resource to our area. Knowing which popular fall plants can be toxic to dogs🐺, cats 🐱, and horses 🐴will help you choose safe autumn flora for your home and yard. The ASPCA offers this list of which plants 🍁🌻 can be hazardous and which are relatively harmless https://bit.ly/3l6tOZW. Keep in mind, however, that the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center advises that even “harmless” plants consumed by pets may cause mild GI upset.

When disasters such as flooding, wildfires, and earthquakes occur being prepared to keep you pets safe can save their lives, and relieve you of unnecessary anxiety. ASPCA experts have created one-page safety prep guides for cats and dogs:https://bit.ly/2EUNccS. Print them out and keep them with your other emergency materials. Be prepared rather than scared.
Did you know? Apple Picking – Not Apple Grazing🍎🍎🍎 As it turns out, apples are not the cure to health for Fido or Fluffy. If your dog likes to graze the ground for food, consider leaving Fido at home during your stroll of the apple orchards. While the flesh of ripe apples doesn’t pose a problem for dogs or cats, apple stems, leaves and seeds are not so gentle. They can cause GI upset, decreased oxygen in the blood, decreased heart rate, difficulty breathing, seizures, coma, and even death. With reasonable preparation, the flesh of apples can make a suitable treat for dogs but cats are unlikely to enjoy the flavor of this fruit.

Morning kisses from our patients at Monterey Peninsula Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center.
We are open and here for you. A reminder. In keeping our hospital up to date with the current guidelines (from CDC, AVMA, CVMA, the County of Monterey), we have a few modifications to our patient handling. As always, we are here for you 24/7/365 and look forward to working with you for your pets’ healthcare, medical, and emergency needs. Outside our door, we have signage to request clients stay in their car and give us a call when they arrive. We are prepared to modify our normal intake by conducting all conversations via telephone. Once you arrive, our staff will collect your pet from your car directly. An exception to these precautions is in the case of euthanasia of your pet – call us to make arrangements ahead, and we can provide a safe place to be together, should you choose. If your pet requires care and you are ill, please arrange for a trusted and healthy friend, neighbor, family member living outside your home to transport your pet to us. Give us a call ahead to discuss how we can best accommodate you and your pet. We are happy to speak with you about any concerns
Many pet owners love to dress their pets for and take them trick-or-treating with the kids. Remember a few safety tips around the holidays: When taking your pet out, keep it close and put reflective clothing on it, if possible, to reduce the risk of your pet being injured. Keep an eye on the candy. Chocolate can be deadly to dogs, so make sure your children know to keep it out of reach. Food can become a problem during as well. Keep an eye on pets trying to steal from the feast.

Today is #NationalChocolateDay. 🍫🍫🍫 Yes, chocolate is toxic to dogs (and cats!). While rarely fatal, chocolate ingestion can result in significant illness. Chocolate is toxic because it contains a chemical called theobromine, as well as caffeine.
We love your 5 Star Reviews. Thank you Sasha W. They saved our puppy's life. We took our 11 week old Shiba pup in after noticing her quick decline. Turned out she had Parvo:( We we're bracing ourselves for the worst but thanks to the amazing people at this facility, we have her back and 100% healthy. We can't thank you enough.

Thank you Doug H for the 5 Star Review. For over 10 years we have used Dr. Katja Hermann to provide emergency and regular care for our Ocicats. Dr. Hermann is a capable, compassionate and sensitive Doctor. She diagnoses and tests onsite with a self-contained lab, this is a huge benefit as results come in quickly. The nominal difference in cost for "emergency hours" vs "regular hours" makes taking your pet there possible in the evening, weekend and holidays and as a result they are our emergency and primary care choice. We are so impressed with Dr. Hermann and the entire staff, they really love their work and are so very caring, we would not consider going anywhere else.
😁

Regular care of your pet’s teeth and gums is an important aspect of overall health and wellness. By simply keeping your pet’s oral health well maintained, you take a very important step in preventing some potentially serious medical issues that can arise as a result of poor dental care. We recommend cats and dogs receive a dental check-up, x-rays, cleaning, and polishing on an annual basis, especially for any pet over 6 years of age, to prevent tartar build-up and tooth decay. The choices people make also can have a substantial impact on the oral health of animal companions. The foods you choose, the toys you buy, and the care you take at home all play a role in maintaining the integrity of your pet’s teeth and gums over time. Our veterinarians are happy to consult with you about the best dental care practices for your pet.

In addition to wellness checks and physical exams, regular updates of your pet’s vaccinations play an important role in keeping him or her happy and healthy. We make sure to provide each patient with the most appropriate vaccinations according to age, breed, lifestyle, and other aspects that differentiate your pet from the rest. Thus, vaccinations vary for each patient and may include initial immunizations for your puppy or kitten, as well as vaccination updates for adult and senior pets.

It's holiday week and a good time to review foods that we love but aren't safe for our beloved pets. Skip the Sweets: By now you know not to feed your pets chocolate and anything sweetened with xylitol. Leave the Leftovers: Fatty, spicy and no-no human foods, as well as bones, should not be fed to your furry friends. Careful with Cocktails: If your celebration includes adult holiday beverages, be sure to place your unattended alcoholic drinks where pets cannot get to them. What special treats can you offer? Stick with chew toys that are basically indestructible, Kongs that can be stuffed with healthy foods or chew treats that are designed to be safely digestible. Long, stringy things are a feline's dream, but the most risky toys for cats involve ribbon, yarn and loose little parts that can get stuck in the intestines, often necessitating surgery. Surprise kitty with a new ball that's too big to swallow, a stuffed catnip toy or the interactive cat dancer.

New Year Resolutions! Exercise together. Just like watching food intake, exercise is critical to maintaining a fit pet. Exercising together not only gets you both moving and grooving, it is a great time to bond and get some fresh air together. Routine walks are great, but what about mixing it up and going on a hike or enjoying some doga (yes, dog yoga you can do at home!).

Thus, vaccinations vary for each patient and may include initial immunizations for your puppy or kitten, as well as vaccination updates for adult and senior pets. https://www.mpvesc.com/

We ❤️ your 5 Star Reviews. Thank you Marci B. Lifesaver! The entire team is the best. From the minute you walk in to the minute you leave, there is clear communication, recommendations and a wellness plan that is best for your pet. All of my animals LOVE it here. Especially the front desk staff opens the top of the red fire engine cookie jar at the end of the visit. Thank you Monterey Peninsula Emergency Vet for all you do!

Happy #NationalCheeseLoversDay.🧀 While cheese can be safe to feed to your dog, there are some things to remember. Cheese is high in fat, and feeding too much to your dog regularly can cause weight gain and lead to obesity. Even more problematic, it could lead to pancreatitis, a serious and potentially fatal illness in dogs.

Our veterinarians are happy to consult with you about the best dental care practices for your pet. https://bit.ly/39DG4wR

February is Spay & Neuter Awareness Month. On any given day in the United States, there are an estimated 70 million homeless dogs and cats struggling to survive. They are a result of people’s failure to spay and neuter their animal companions, allowing them to bring more animals into a world that already has more dogs and cats than there are loving homes for them.
We love your 5-star reviews! "When our 16 year old dog fell in the middle of dinner and had her first seizure, we feared the worst. After suppressing my first instinct to call 911, I called the first emergency vet on Google, which luckily was this one! Mary, who answered the phone immediately calmed us down, kept talking to us through Bella’s seizure, and prepared us on what to expect after. Not only was she incredibly knowledgeable with no information beyond me blurting my dog is having a seizure, but she did so knowing Bella wasn’t even a patient. And she made one of the scariest moments of our lives so much calmer with her incredibly kind an soothing demeanor. Thank you Mary!!!! You are Bella’s guardian angel. To anyone looking for an emergency vet, I could not recommend this business (and especially Mary) more!" Fiona A--Carmel

Did you know this? 🐶 🐶 🐶 . . . #dogfacts #sciencefacts #sciencefact #funfact #didyouknow
What do cat vocalizations mean? Meow: An adult cat’s meow is directed at humans when they want something. A kitten meows when they want attention from their mother. Interestingly, adult cats do not “meow” to one another. Purring: The urge to purr originates in the brain and is associated with the release of endorphins, chemicals that have analgesic properties. Endorphins are released in mammals when they are either happy or sad. Chirping/Chattering: If you see your cat gazing intently in one direction and then chirp or make a chattering sound, consider it a signal that there’s some prey nearby and your pet is planning to launch at their target.
