Look đź‘€ who stopped by to meet the milk bank team today-Will Chinn, COO of Ochsner Baptist! He met Jessica Harbour and Danielle Myles, our milk techs pictured here. Also met with Kadi Ledger, our donor coordinator. He was excited to see the techs apply the label to the final products of processing today. We appreciate your support of the milk bank mission of saving infant lives.
Regina Ledet, an international board-certified lactation consultant practicing in Lake Charles, also runs a milk storage depot for the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Louisiana in her retail store, Pink & Blue Avenue. Regina battened down the hatches at the depot before the storm and evacuated to Baton Rouge to ride out Hurricane Laura. Two days later, she was able to return to Lake Charles to check on the depot. Although there was a cracked front window and no power to the depot, the donated milk in the freezer was still frozen. Regina packed up the milk in ice chests and drove it to our Ochsner Baton Rouge depot, where they had moved their milk supply to the NICU for temporary storage to accommodate the Lake Charles milk. A total of ten gallons of donated milk was safe and secure!
Here, Regina, left, is pictured with the team at Ochsner Medical Center - Baton Rouge, dropping off the frozen milk.

Two days after Hurricane Laura, a donor family from Lake Charles contacted the Mother’s Milk Bank of Louisiana at Ochsner Baptist to ask if we could receive a freezer full of milk. Due to power outages, they did not want their milk to go to waste. We partnered with our milk depot at Ochsner Lafayette General to make room for the large milk donation. Darlene LeBlanc, an international board-certified lactation consultant for the NICU at Ochsner Lafayette General, moved the existing depot milk into their NICU freezer for temporary storage. A completely empty freezer was now available to receive the milk that the family drove from north of Lake Charles to Lafayette. A total of 28 gallons of donated milk was safe and secure.

Today, we want to recognize Nicole B. Cavalier, a patient access representative at Ochsner Women’s Health Center – Raceland, who recently donated 450 ounces of breast milk to the Mothers' Milk Bank of Louisiana at Ochsner Baptist drop off location at Ochsner St. Anne. Because of her generous donation, we will be able to provide safe donor milk to premature and sick babies who need human milk to thrive.

We’ve been able to settle down after the holiday season and focus on our goals for the year. Hopefully, you’ve been able to do the same! Remember to take a moment to check in with yourself throughout the day to ensure you are feeling your best and able to fully show up for yourself and those around you. Today, Kadi, our donor program coordinator for Mothers’ Milk Bank of Louisiana at Ochsner Baptist and certified yoga teacher, takes you through a quick and easy meditation that you can do anytime, anywhere.
We celebrate Martin Luther King today for his vision of love. Our mission of love is to ensure the equitable access to human milk. In 2020, our outpatient program provided 95% of donor human milk dispensed to community families statewide at no cost. We serve 60% of NICU beds in Louisiana. Black infants have the highest preterm rate here in Louisiana and black women lactation rates continue to be low. We celebrate the work of our community partners to close this divide and with love we can together improve maternal child infant health
Today, Kadi, the donor program coordinator for Mothers' Milk Bank of Louisiana at Ochsner Baptist and a certified yoga teacher, is going to teach you a mindfulness exercise to keep yourself in the present moment as we head into this busy week.
Happy holidays to you and yours!
During the holidays, we are incredibly grateful for our milk donors like Jennifer Drummer! Jennifer is the director of development at Baptist Community Ministries, and she recently dropped off 370 ounces (almost two months’ worth!) of milk to the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Louisiana at Ochsner Baptist. Because of donations like Jennifer’s, we can provide milk to premature and sick babies who need human milk to thrive. Thank you, Jennifer!
