What are your plans for Labor Day weekend? Spending time with the family? Friends? Or will you be at the barn?
Reminder for Botulism vaccinations. We saw an increase in cases this past year. Be sure to have your horses vaccinated, especially if you are feeding round bales of hay. The vaccine won’t prevent all types of botulism but it is effective against type B, which is the most common. Type A is found in western states, type B is present in hay and soil of our area and type C is from animal carcasses that are accidentally baled in hay. Horses are more sensitive to these toxins than other animals, and botulism can rapidly become fatal. Often horses become down and unable to rise, paralysis of respiratory muscles leaves them unable to breathe, which causes their death. In this picture this horse has the inability to retract the tongue which is a common symptom.

Just in case you are tired of scrolling through drama and hate...
Here is a cute calf. You're welcome.
Beware of area flea markets and animal swap shops when purchasing a pot bellied pig. Some people are misrepresenting pot bellied pigs as mini or micro pot bellied pigs and selling them before they are weaned. This makes them vulnerable to infection and susceptible to death. If you are wanting a true pot bellied pig please verify your source and breeders background. This is similar to a puppy mill so please do your homework before purchasing.
