There is a popular myth that you need to have an injury to go to Occupational Therapy. In reality, OT helps anyone who has limited function in their hands or upper extremities. This could be from an injury but could also include stroke, arthritis, amputation, surgery, or just loss of strength. Put simply, occupational therapy addresses the pain that makes your daily tasks more challenging, such as: 👉 Recreational activities 👉 Taking care of your family 👉 Driving 👉 Housework 👉 Pain from poor ergonomics (like a new home office setup) We teach patients new or modified methods for performing routine activities. That means we might show you a different way of holding a pen to be more comfortable as part of your OT plan. At MoveMend, our goal is to keep you as independent as possible and go through your day with less pain. Are you experiencing pain when you perform routine tasks? Are tasks that once seemed effortless more challenging to do now? Schedule an OT evaluation to see if occupational therapy could help you. https://www.movemend.info/contact/ ✅ Reminder: If you have an appointment, masks and verbal health screenings are REQUIRED by everyone who enters MoveMend. ⁣We are also following all cleaning protocols, keeping socially distant in the clinic, waiting area, and training space, and taking all precautions to keep everyone safe. You can read more about our safety protocols here: https://www.movemend.info/2020/06/01/covid-19-protocols/
Welcome to the MoveMend family! Erin Eaton, MOT, OTR/L, will be joining us on Sept. 15 as our new occupational therapist and hand therapist. Erin is a Seattle native and has a passion for hand therapy and is dedicated to helping people do more of the activities they love. Erin enjoys working with patients who have repetitive stress injuries, arthritis, fractures, and post-operative therapy to help them regain strength and function in their hands and arms. In her free time, Erin enjoys working on home renovation projects, baking, and spending time outdoors in her garden or hiking with her boyfriend and dogs. We're excited to have her as part of the MoveMend team! You can book an appointment with Erin here: https://movemend.as.me/OT-eval-Erin-Eaton

Did you know most people who are diagnosed with Tennis Elbow don’t play tennis? Tennis elbow refers to pain that's located on the outside, bony part of the elbow, on the side that is furthest away from your trunk. With Tennis Elbow, the pain can be severe and can limit hand function as well as the ability to do daily activities, like lifting objects, pushing or pulling, and playing the sports you enjoy. If that sounds familiar, don’t worry. That's exactly why we’ve created this free elbow pain workshop: How to recover from Tennis Elbow ASAP, even if you're not a tennis player. You’ll learn the simple exercises to check if you might have Tennis Elbow, and how to eliminate elbow pain for good. Register for the free workshop here: https://movemend.info/BlastPastTennisElbowWebinar/

With the new statewide restrictions put in place earlier this week by Gov. Jay Inslee, we’ve been getting calls about whether MoveMend is still open. Yes, we are definitely open! As a physical therapy and occupational therapy clinic, we are considered an essential service. We follow strict protocols around masks, sanitizing common areas and treatment rooms, and have restricted capacity in the clinic. You can also still come and safely work out with your trainer (masks are required at all times in the clinic), as we have plenty of space to keep socially distant while working out and have added additional cleaning time between appointments. If you’re dealing with pain or an injury, or you just want to come in for your regular training session, we remain open and committed to the safety, health, and wellbeing of all our clients and staff. Make an appointment today to start feeling better! https://movemend.info/

Side planks aren’t just for your core! An article by Boren and colleagues from the International Journal of Sports Medicine is one of many published research findings demonstrating that planks highly recruit your glutes. By doing side plank variations in which you are lifting the top leg in the air, both sets of glutes will have to strongly engage. Watch this video for a side plank variation to get your glutes working!

I’m in Colorado this week, hitting the slopes, so how did I get ready? Just hanging out doing wall sits with Ginny for 30 minutes😂 🤪 Sitting might be the new smoking, but wall sits definitely aren’t! Does your coach work right along side you, or do they stand there and tell you what to do, maybe based off of how they’re feeling that day (not how you're feeling!) or a new trend that caught their eye? A coach works beside you to help you improve, following a program based on science and customized for your goals to help you reach peak performance. A trainer just puts you through workouts.
