While we celebrate the rehabilitation of Old Main and five other buildings that will provide housing to homeless and at-risk veterans, our work is far from done. The Milwaukee Preservation Alliance, Inc. (MPA) continues to advocate for the rehabilitation and reuse of vacant and threatened Soldiers Home buildings, including the Soldiers Home Chapel. The State of Wisconsin Building Commission approved funding for the land purchase and site development of a new Milwaukee State Office Building in the Near West Side with a bipartisan, unanimous vote.
“The selection of the proposed location at 27th Street and Wisconsin Avenue will serve as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization, bringing new developments and job opportunities along one of Milwaukee's key commercial corridors and supporting unprecedented public and private investments in the Near West Side,” said Keith Stanley, Executive Director of Near West Side Partners.

"AAM has informed the Milwaukee Public Museum that our application for re-accreditation was tabled, citing inadequate facilities, but acknowledging that we are in the midst of planning for a new museum," Milwaukee Public Museum CEO Ellen Censky said in an emailed statement. "This status is actually a positive recognition that a rigorous process is underway to execute the long-term plan and vision for a new museum."
