Informed members make wise financial decisions. That’s why we’re so passionate about educating and empowering our members. When evaluating the cost of a loan or line of credit, it is important to understand the difference between the advertised interest rate and the annual percentage rate (APR). A home equity loan can be a fantastic way to source extra funds during a falling-rates environment. Tapping into your home’s equity, or the positive difference between what is owed on a home and its current value, will give you the funds you need for a large expense with no additional strings attached. 🏡

Open Door Shelter is open 365 days a year. Their kitchen serves three meals a day, every day of the year, to anyone in need. This translates to over 50,000 meals served monthly.
Most of the families and individuals who come to Open Doors arrive with practically nothing, and depend on community donations for food, clothing, and other necessities. Help us support their efforts during our 2020 Food Drive! https://info.mscu.net/fooddrive
We may not be having our ‘Fill the Truck’ event, but we’re still collecting items throughout the month to benefit St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury! Drop off your donations at our Watertown branch today. 🤗

THROW-BACK-THURSDAY: Mutual Security Credit Union's “Fill the Truck” Food Drive was a great success last year. Unfortunately, the COVID 19 pandemic has made it difficult for Mutual Security Credit Union and other supporters from having food drives that would benefit our SVDP Food Pantry.
“Thumbs up to everyone at Mutual Security who participated in and contributed to the MSCU 12th Annual Fill-A-Truck Food Drive on Thursday, September 19, 2019. Those shown in the photo are packing the donated food into bags: Mike Augusti, VP of Sales & Service at Mutual Security Credit Union, and CFO, Stephen Osowiecki, left, along with St. Vincent DePaul’s Edwin Rodriguez, Director of Development and Public Relations and Executive Director Gary Beaulieu.”
Our friends at St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury distributed an equivalent of 77,481 meals in bagged groceries to those in need in the community over the last year. Help us continue their momentum by dropping off your canned goods or non-perishable donations at our Watertown branch (764 Straits Turnpike) throughout the month of October!
Through our Select Employer Group (SEG) program, we give employees a way to take control of their finances by saving two important resources: time and money. Organizations that work with us can enjoy a number of benefits including on-site visits, personalized specials, financial education and more!

Budgeting doesn’t have to be ‘ruff’ but it’s important to know the difference between needs vs wants! Some things you need — a roof over your head, electricity, gas in your car to get to work or the dog park— and some things you just want, like a new squeaky toy or a T-bone steak dinner. You can fit both into your budget and still set money aside for emergencies if you manage your spending with care. 🐾💸
There's nothing like adventuring off the beaten path with the one you love in the car you love! 💙🚗
Not loving your current car? We can get you pre-approved so you can shop confidently knowing how much you can afford and that you’ve got the best possible financing. Learn more at: http://ow.ly/vHBX50BDg7J
It's not too late to participate in the 2020 Food Drive! Stop by one of our branches with a donation, today!

Beware of Debt-Collection Scams
Increased demands and decreased opportunities for fundraising have left many of our local food pantries looking for extra support in keeping their shelves stocked. We'd like to thank everyone who donated to our food drive last month and encourage everyone to keep the momentum going by supporting your local food bank year round. 💙
The past few months have been challenging for many of us in more ways than one. As a silver lining, we’re pleased to announce our facilitation in distributing $100,000 in grant funds to 12 Connecticut nonprofits that have experienced hardships during COVID-19.
These funds will help sustain the important work they're doing in our community plus increase their efforts in areas such as food distribution, shelter, and emergency programming all while following COVID-19 CDC Guidelines with their ability to purchase necessary PPE thanks to the grant funds.
