Opioid addiction took my brother’s life in 2005. Losing him was both a shock and nearly pulled my family apart.
Jeffrey R. Bourke was a 45 year old husband, father, brother, business owner and friend to many. His death was not totally unexpected, but surely could have been prevented.
Jeff died in his sleep. He’d taken too many oxycodone and OxyContin pills he’d bought on the street. Getting that phone call was one of the worst days of my life.
The crazy thing is, I too was in the midst of opioid addiction at the same time my brother died. I kept telling myself, “I have this under control. Why couldn’t he control how much he takes like I do?”
Just a few years later I would be in the same boat he was — walking a fine line between managing my pill intake and overdosing almost daily. This went on for another 6 years. It’s amazing I’m not dead.
Finally, in 2013, after having lost almost everything, I checked myself into rehab. I was sure a two week stint at a good rehab would solve all of my problems. Once I got rid of the drugs I’d be fine, right?
I relapsed 10 times in 3 months after leaving treatment. What saved my life was a Suboxone clinic. If not for that, I surely would be dead.
Saldy, the clinic I was going to closed down in 2016. Using my network of friends and doctors I’d met along my recovery journey, I decided it was time to start helping others overcome addiction just as I had.
In October 2017 I opened Nashville Recovery. Me and my incredible staff have helped over 1500 people since that date, and we’re still growing strong.
If you or anyone you know is addicted to opiates, there is a way to put an end to it. Nashville Recovery is by no means the only clinic in town, and there are plenty of good ones scattered throughout the USA who genuinely care about their patient’s well-being.
