We are in desperate needed of homes to take teens. Send us a message if you would like to help out! Dream Makers 18 hrs · Last February, after we adopted the boys, we planned to not take anymore long term placements. We planned to soak up our time as an official family of 4.⠀ ⠀ In April, we got a call asking if we’d take a 16-year old girl. Our home was technically only opened to kids up to the age of 13, but there were zero other native foster homes available/willing to take her age, so they had to call us.⠀ ⠀ We said yes just after less than an hour of getting as much info as we could and discussing it, because why not? Where was she to go? If there weren’t more homes, then why not us?⠀ We learned soon after this that there were (hopefully there’s more now, I’m getting these numbers) only 5 native foster homes in Oklahoma that would take teens. FIVE.⠀ I will say that thankfully (at the time) there weren’t tons of native teens in care, but there were more than 5.⠀ ⠀ When we became foster parents 3 years we never set out to adopt, we understood the need for kids to be back with their parents. God obviously had different plans for us and the 3 kids that are now ours!⠀ ⠀ We didn’t plan to adopt, but we also weren’t going to say no. Adoption is huge and we 100% understood what that meant, also. Whenever we could prevent more trauma, we were going to do it. Whenever we could reflect the Gospel of the Lord adopting us into His eternal family, we were going to.⠀ ⠀ Sis had the option to just age out of care if she wanted. That was actually what she wanted to do when she came to live with us. From the very beginning we told her if that was what she wanted to do, we would be okay with that, and we would always always always be a home for her to come back to, to be people to cry to, and to ask questions to. We weren’t afraid to be that even if she wasn’t officially ours!⠀ ⠀ She changed her mind, though 💕 and we are forever thankful SHE chose us. Because that’s what really happened here.⠀ ⠀ #formerfosteryouth #fosterteens #adoptteens
