Huge Announcement! No more Emergency Fee 24/7! We want you to feel comfortable to bring your pet in to see us anytime without the added hassle of wondering if there will be an extra cost for late night emergencies. Come in anytime! Please share!
This little chicken had quite an adventure today! Dr. Neel and her family are raising a few chickens and they noticed Raspberry (Barrd Rock breed) had some nasal discharge and didn't seem to feel well. So Dr. Neel put her in a box in the back area of her car to bring the chicken to work with her. Well Raspberry must have decided she wanted a better view of the road trip because she made her way out of the box and into Dr. Neel's front passenger seat! 😂 They drove all the way to Neel Veterinary Hospital like Thelma and Louise. Pictured here is Summer, 4th year Veterinary student Extern from OSU College of Veterinary Medicine, holding Raspberry after she removed it from Dr. Neel's car. Dr. Fryer, our exotic pet DVM, will be examining and treating the chicken today with the help of Summer.
What happens in our ICU and triage areas every day? Why do Registered Veterinary Technicians go to school multiple years and take both National and State Board tests? Why are we considered Essential Workers who have continuously shown up to work through a pandemic? Because of THIS. Kasi, RVT, CHT-V, in our ICU performing CPR on a crashing patient. She and the other ICU staff worked for long minutes until it was clear that a heartbeat was not going to come back. Until this patient was given every chance to live. Until owners could rush in to say goodbye. RVTs (and all of our Veterinary field staff) have continued to care for your animals during some of the toughest and difficult months of recent memory. So with the start of Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week tomorrow, we want to say thank you to our staff for their hard work and for providing the best care possible for our patients, always. ❤❤
If your pet needs an abdominal ultrasound or cardiac workup with echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart), we are happy to schedule your pet quickly. Our ability to schedule ultrasounds within 24 hours or even same day in the event of a critical patient, provides both our Referring Veterinarians and our In-House Veterinarians the most current information in order to diagnose and treat your pets with Gold Standard and Evidence-Based Medicine. Dr. Neel performs the majority of our ultrasounds 7 days a week and with decades of experience, she is able to provide pet owners and primary veterinarians a preliminary report on her findings soon after she completes the ultrasound. The images are then sent to Board Certified Cardiologists or Radiologists for a final report with treatment guidance - the final report takes just a few hours to receive. Please send us a message through social media if you would like to schedule an ultrasound for your pet. Ultrasounds are an extremely useful and important diagnostic tool so don't wait to schedule!
Update on 11 year old Murphy - he was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma (cancer of the blood vessel walls) in August after emergency surgery with Dr. Kishore to remove his spleen and part of his liver. In the 14 days it took for his abdominal incision to heal (it needed to heal before chemotherapy was started), new tumors were found on both of his kidneys via ultrasound by Dr. Neel. His chemotherapy protocol began quickly and within 4 weeks of the first dose, the tumors on his kidneys were smaller in size and have not grown since! This past week Murphy was feeling the best he had in awhile - so much better he sprinted across his backyard to chase a squirrel! Unfortunately this caused pain in his hips from arthritis and hip dysplasia. For extra pain relief(combined with medication), Murphy had his 1st acupuncture session with Dr. Fryer today. Murphy almost immediately relaxed and was calm throughout the 20 minute session. Acupuncture points were targeted for his hip pain, discomfort/anxiety and GI upset from his previously diagnosed IBD. The plan is to continue acupuncture along with chemotherapy to help Murphy be as comfortable as possible. **Hemangiosarcoma is an aggressive cancer currently without a cure, however pets can receive chemotherapy and/or other therapies to extend their quality of life. ** Visit Neel.Vet to learn more about acupuncture and other services we provide.
Russell, cutest tripod ICU Mascot Pupdate - "Per usual, monitoring the nursing staff but also trying to catch this fly buzzing around, disrupting my patrols. Will continue to scan the room for the pesky bug who tries to land on my head. Its hardwork but someone has to do it. I think my eyelids are getting heavy so the fly may live to see another day...😴😴"
Today is National Custodial Worker's Recognition Day and we want to recognize our custodial/housekeeping staff!! They keep our hospital clean and santized, which has been particularly important during this pandemic. Roberto (pictured), Jennifer and Raul work extremely hard during their shifts to mop our 14,000 sqft hospital, wash all blankets and towels for our patients, sanitize surfaces and rooms, sweep up never ending pet hair, make sure disinfecting supplies are always stocked, take out trash many times a day and a million other tasks. We definitely appreciate all that you do!

Just a little glimpse of what happens inside of our hospital every day. Our staff, like Veterinary Assistant Megan, loves on each pet that will let us. Even though Curbside Service is still in place (exceptions are made for ICU visits and euthanasia) and pet owners remain in their cars, we want you to know that we appreciate the trust you place in us to diagnose and treat your pets during this crazy year of 2020. ❤❤

Twenty years ago, Neel Veterinary Hospital was built at the current location and 20 years ago, this Live Oak was planted at the southwest corner of the building. This tree has been through all kinds of weather and the ice storm has now damaged it enough to block our drive-thru lane on the south side of the building. We currently use the drive thru lane to assist families with their euthanasia visits so that they have a smoother way to arrive and leave. While this has not blocked the vast majority of our parking areas, please be aware as you arrive in the next couple of days until we can safely clear it. We hope to salvage some of tree so that it can continue to grow for another 20 years.
Yes we are open today, 24/7 actually, and welcome any animal emergencies you may have during this ice storm. No extra emergency fees. Please use caution when driving to us, if you do need our services. Dr. Donnelly (pictured left) and Shannon (pictured right) are part of our ICU team caring for hospitalized patients today - they will be happy to take care of your baby too. #WearAMask #BeKind
We want to wish our long-time Veterinary Assistant Carrie a Happy Birthday!! 🥳 She has literally grown up at Neel Veterinary Hospital - her mom was a technician for Dr. Neel for many years so Carrie would come to work with her at a young age and learned all about caring for animals. After spending many years as one of our Overnight ICU Assistants, she now works as Surgical Assistant so those of you who have brought in a pet for hospitalization or surgery may have spoken to her on the phone or even in person with updates on your babies. Carrie always has a great attitude and helps her co-workers whenever they need extra assistance! She is proudly wearing her crown and sash today - say Hi if you see her! Happy Birthday Carrie! ** Carrie was not wearing a mask for the picture because she was about to enjoy a birthday sweet treat.**
**11:45pm Update - Rusty is going home with his owners!** This little baby wandered up to our door this afternoon without an owner in sight. No microchip. We are located on border of OKC and Bethany, between 23rd and 36th st on MacArthur Blvd. If you know who this pup belongs to, please MESSAGE us on Facebook or Instagram to identify gender and other unique qualities. We will hold overnight tonight (Sunday into Monday) until the OKC Animal Shelter picks up tomorrow.
The cold temperatures have arrived in Oklahoma and will continue with possible ice through Tuesday ❄ Please keep your pets inside for warmth!! If your pet does exhibit abnormal symptoms, don't wait to bring them to be examined. We are open 24/7 with no extra emergency fee.
Join us for dinner tonight with Oh My Gogi! Food truck in our parking lot from 6p-8p! If you buy any entree, your drink will be free!!
We want to announce the winners of our Staff Halloween contests!! 🎃🎉 Winner of best pumpkin decoration - "Nightmare Before Christmas" Costume Contest 1st Place - "Karenina" 2nd Place - "Link" from world of Zelda 3rd Place - Cruella DeVille with her Dalmatians
We've got some creative entrees into our staff Halloween costume contest already! Introducing Karenina (aka Veterinary Assistant Danny) complete with her little dog in her purse, shades and not a strand of hair out of place. Karenina was walking in the backdoor this morning and one staff member asked if she needed help! 🤣🤣
We're excited for Halloween 👻 and you might catch our staff in costume tonight and tomorrow! Shy, newly promoted Customer Service Manager, is really going all out as the Riddler - pictured here with two of our cute patients tonight.
Today is World Kindness Day and a simple way to show how much you care about others is to wear a mask!! 😷 We wear masks to protect each other so that we can continue to care for your pets 24 hours a day. Dayna and Smedley work in Pharmacy and they appreciate the consideration of pet owners who wear masks for medication pickup. Wearing a mask is easy and can actually save a life if you are asymptomatic. Be selfless. Be Kind. Wear A Mask. ❤ #WearAMask #BeKind #BeSelfless #WorldKindnessDay
Our late night/overnight Client Services crew stays busy at all hours!! They do everything from check patients in and out, answer pet parent questions, take payments, relay messages between our clients and the doctors/techs and communicate with referral clinics sending patients our way. They are part time therapists, financial advisors, you name it. They have the hardest jobs in the hospital and we could not function without them! Pictured here is Lacie, Stephanie and Shy - all are ready to help your pets any time overnight 🐕🐈🐇🐀🐦🦎🪱 #WearAMask #BeKind
Veterinary Assistant Megan helps re-stock supplies in the treatment area so that we are ready to help our patients throughout the day and night. She is always willing to help out her co-workers, usually while cracking a joke to lighten the mood. 😂 Megan, like all of our staff, has worn a mask everyday since March. We wear masks to help keep each other healthy so that we can continue to care for your pets. We would LOVE ❤ to see all of our clients wearing masks too while around anyone that lives outside of your home. Do your part to help slow the spread of COVID-19 (and influenza this winter!) so that we can all stay as healthy as possible! Be Kind. Be Selfless. #WearAMask #BeKind #BeSelfless
We help keep each other safe and healthy by wearing masks - every day since March. 😷 As Veterinary professionals, we understand how disease spreads and see the consequences of contagious disease EVERY DAY. (MRSA, Distemper, Leptospirosis, Parvovirus, etc) Our surgery staff, like Veterinary Assistant Carrie and RVT Korrine pictured, have always worn masks while helping with procedures because its part of keeping our patients safe and healthy. Beginning last March, everyone wears a mask during their entire shift. We have had an Isolation Ward to house contagious animals (mainly parvovirus puppies) since our hospital was built 20 years ago. We understand how easily potentially fatal, extremely contagious disease spreads. Applying our contagious disease knowledge to COVID-19 and implementing a strict mask policy and other safety measures like Curbside Service very early has allowed us to continue to care for your pets. Thank you to the pet parents who understand these precautions and act respectfully towards our staff when bringing your pets for care. ❤ #WearAMask #BeKind
We are celebrating Kiana's 29th Work Anniversary today! She was the first person that Dr. Neel hired and Kiana has been a staple at Neel Veterinary Hospital for almost 3 decades! ❤ She is either stationed at our front desk or our ICU entrance to help visitors for our critical patients. Kiana is known for her great empathy and compassion by all of our clients who interact with her. Congratulations Kiana! 🎉
We're so excited to be hosting The BeetBox Food Truck in our parking lot next Monday Nov 23 from 12pm - 8pm!! They serve vegan meals and are one of the most popular food trucks in their home city of Stillwater. This will be their first time serving in OKC so come out and try their Chickless Sandwiches, Tacos, Loaded Fries, Sweet Treats and special sauces!!
😍😍 Bear is a 9 week old Yorkshire Terrier and visited us this morning for puppy vaccines. His adorable little face was way too hard to resist so he got lots of hugs and kisses from Veterinary Assistant Krystin and Dr. Barritt. Reminder - we are not scheduling routine wellness/vaccine appointments. However you may come to see us on a "drive up" basis and we will get see your pet in between urgent care or emergency cases. This means that there will be a wait time associated with routine visits.
We had a special visitor tonight - Wonder Woman!! AKA Bella Rose in for a suture removal. Isn't she cute?!
Yes! We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays. If your pet has an emergency tomorrow, please do not hesitate to bring them to us quickly. There is no extra emergency fee charged at any time - same prices 24 hours a day. We have multiple doctors on duty round the clock to care for your pet - including emergency surgery and hospitalization in our ICU if needed. Remember - pets do not need holiday food! No matter how cute they look, their stomachs just need the normal diet you always feed them. Many items are toxic to animals or cause GI upset so just continue their regular diet. Make sure trash can lids are secured and food items are far back from the edge of the counter. We have seen too many dogs that "never eat from the garbage" but suddenly get the urge when leftover turkey bones are dumped in. If your pet does ingest something out of the trash like a bone, garlic, onions, chocolate, corn cobs, pieces of plastic, etc - please bring them in!
Congratulations to Makayla Elliston, our ICU Veterinary Assistant, for being named Senior of Significance at Oklahoma State University!! She represents the top 1% of graduating seniors who "have excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to campus and community and have brought distinction to OSU." Makayla is majoring in Animal Science/Pre-Veterinary Medicine and hopes to attend veterinary school in the near future. We are very proud of Makayla and know she will continue to excel! https://www.orangeconnection.org/s/860/18/interior.aspx?sid=860&gid=1&pgid=9642#sos
We want to introduce everyone to our newest veterinarian - Dr. Eryn Dinisi!! Originally from California, she graduated from Atlantic Veterinary College in Canada in 2016 and then practiced emergency medicine on the west coast until moving to Oklahoma with her husband this year. With her love of urgent care, emergency surgery and the fast pace of a 24 hour hospital, she has been a wonderful addition to our team. On her down time, Dr. Dinisi enjoys spending time with her husband and 4 pups - Ozzy, Luna, Frankie and Jones. Please help us welcome Dr. Dinisi to our hospital!
The Beetbox Food Truck is here from 12p - 8p today serving yummy vegan food!!!
We have new designated ICU visitor parking spots on the southeast side of our building. If you want to visit or pick up your hospitalized pet, you may park in one of the designated spots and then call us to let us know you've arrived. You will be given directions on what to do next. Only ONE visitor per pet is allowed inside at any given time. MASKS ARE REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES INSIDE OF THE BUILDING. Please do not try to enter the building without calling us first. Pet owners may use the ICU text line 24 hours a day to check on their hospitalized pet.
Burkis and Nida are Lab housemates who visited us last week for their annual vaccines - they were so well behaved and so adorable 😍 Annual vaccines are extremely important in preventing disease from spreading, not only in your pet but also in nearby pets or wildlife. Rabies, Bordetella and Distemper/Parvo/Leptospirosis vaccines are given in our vaccine package with Lyme and Influenza boosters available as well. With our increased number of emergency cases, we also recommend dropping your pet off if you are bringing them for vaccines so that we can work them in in between emergencies. Let the staff person know at check in that you want to drop off, leave a good phone number where you can be reached then go run errands or relax at home. We will call you later in the day(usually within 6 hours) and let you know your pet is ready for pick up.
Gobble gobble! We've got a turkey named Ryann helping at the front desk today! 🦃
Our staff is enjoying a Thanksgiving meal from Wicked Hangry catering! Baked potatoes, individual toppings and wrapped desserts so that we can have a safe holiday with co-workers on duty today. Its all so good! 🦃
Our hospital is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even on holidays. There is never an extra emergency fee charged. Our 14,000sqft hospital offers care for canines, felines and exotic pets with a 3,000sqft ICU specifically for our hospitalized patients. We have 19 doctors, including specialists with over 100 total staff members, in-house lab machines, digital xrays, CT, Ultrasound, free-flow oxygen kennels, the only Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber in the state for pets, double surgery suite, dental suite and much more to diagnose and treat animals in almost every urgent care or emergency situation. Surgery capabilities are limitless - orthopedic, soft tissue, scope with biopsies, etc. Send a message to our facebook page if you have questions! We want pets owners to know that they have a place to go for gold standard care, around the clock. When Dr. Neel built this hospital in 2000, she saw that OKC needed a veterinary hospital open 24 hours a day and so we have not closed our doors, even during tornadoes, pandemics or whatever else we have gone through. We've adjusted this year with continous mask wearing and clients waiting in their vehicles but we appreciate all of the pet owners who trust us to care for their pets. Also if you have Veterinary experience and are looking for a full time or part time position, please find us on Indeed to apply for our open positions. Currently looking to hire Veterinary Assistants and RVTs with a variety of shift options available.
This review means everything to us!! Our staff being recognized for their hard work lets us know that we are noticed and appreciated ❤💜❤💜 Thank you so much for the kind words Deb! Deb Fisher recommends Neel Veterinary Hospital. December 6 at 10:48 PM · I had to take one of my dogs in as an emergency visit. As soon as I called them and Lacey answered the phone I started crying and she was very patient, empathetic and hung in there with me as I worked to get the details out. They came out promptly to get my Lucy. Dr. Delmas called me within a few moments to let me know what she could see immediately and with the details I gave her what she’d like to test etc. I don’t think I went more than 30 minutes maybe less without hearing from or having Chase one of the Doctor’s tech come out to my car to update, explain results etc. Once the doctor made her final assessment of what Lucy needed she was very understanding of my financial circumstances and she provided me with a treatment plan that I could do at home, with the understanding of at what point I would need to bring her in for hospitalization if she wasn’t responding as needed. Lucy did respond positively over night so the next day I went back for another dose of fluids and a quick blood test to make sure they showed change in the right direction. That day Nicholas, Morgan B. & Dr. Barritt just as professional, empathetic and reassuring. I had to make a couple of follow up calls to the pharmacy with questions and the pharmacists were very helpful. I definitely would recommend Neel Veterinary Hospital as my first choice, especially in emergency situations when their patient’s parents are very emotional. This was my first visit, therefore all I can comment on.

A special girl named Wynonna visited us tonight and stole our hearts. ❤ She was rescued by Tornado Alley Bulldog Rescue - bcarn Oklahoma from a puppy mill a few days ago and brought to us for examination and vaccines. Without a doubt, she is total sweetie. Veterinary Assistant Shane can attest to that with Wynonna settled in his arms. We know that she is good with dogs and kids right now. She will be part of the rescue for several weeks while she decompresses, gets used to a stable environment and they find her perfect forever home. If you are interested in possibly adopting Wynonna, keep your eye on their page for updates. They have plenty of other rescued bulldogs looking for permanent homes as well! tornadoalleyok.org
Ever wonder why your dog's paws smell like Fritos/Cheetos? Lots of people ask the same question and PBS made a great video to explain! 🐾🐾 PBS posted an episode of Reactions. November 24 at 2:00 PM · People frequently wonder why their dog's paws smell like Fritos so this week Reactions asked the experts what causes this scent? (From PBS Digital Studios)
LBJ - short for Little Brown Jones - has taken up her model pose in our laboratory. 😍 Can you even stand how cute she is? We think she gives Tyra Banks some competiton with her perfect "smize." Her mom is our Lab Assistant and runs all of our diagnostic samples throughout the day with our IDEXX lab machines. We can process blood, urine and fecal samples in house. We also have the IDEXX Digital Cytology machine to recieve pathology results on slide samples in just a few hours instead of waiting days for a reference lab to process.
Dr. Doolittle has been busy today with spays and neuters! These routine procedures prevent so many life threatening problems later in animals' lives. We see multiple pets daily that require expensive, complicated treatments that could have been avoided if they were just neutered or spayed as a puppy or kitten. We even spay some exotic species like rabbits to prevent disease and overpopulation! Good job Dr. Doolittle for helping these pets live longer, healthier lives! #WearAMask #BeKind #BeSelfless
🎶 He sees you when you're eating, He knows when you've got snacks...🎶 Russell is ready with his puppy dog eyes 24/7.
Y'all. These are some of the most perfect photos ever taken. Tamara Hart Photography LLC has captured our staff pets' personalities in such an incredible way - we appreciate her talent so much! We wanted to post just a few of the photos to showcase her fanatastic work. 1000% recommend her for amazing pet/family photos!
Shakespeare Jimmy Dean, 6 year old Pitbull mix, is such a happy boy!😍 Korrine, RVT, is getting plenty of kisses from him during his surgical prep. He has a torn a cruciate ligament in his back leg so Dr. Kishore will be performing a TPLO (tibial plateau levelling osteotomy) surgical procedure today to repair Shakespeare's knee. This procedure is considered the gold standard for cruciate ligament repair and Dr. Kishore performs multiple TPLOs every week.
Our very own Dr. Neel was interviewed today by Perris Jones KOCO about her experience participating in the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine trial! She will appear on tonight's KOCO 5 News 6pm newscast to talk about the importance of vaccines and why she wanted to take part in this history-making vaccine research study. Did you know that Pfizer's CEO was a practicing veterinarian in Greece?! The veterinary field sees the devastating effects of prevantable (with a vaccine) diseases every day in animals so it makes sense that a veterinarian would contribute to helping the world during a pandemic and facilitate the process quickly. #WearAMask #BeKind #BeSelfless
Reveille is ready for the snow! ❄❄
Cold and snow today for much of Oklahoma! Keep your pets inside as much as possible out of the weather. We are always open 24/7 so if you do have a pet emergency, please bring them to us but be careful driving! ❄☃️
Merry Christmas!! 🎅 This has been a hard year but we hope this video gives everyone a good laugh and cheer. Dr. Logan dressed in the rabbit costume from A Christmas Story a few nights ago and the staff definitely was surprised 🤣🤣
What's this? A silicone basting brush! This was surgically removed from a dog on Thanksgiving Day and we don't want to have to remove it from any other pet tomorrow. Obviously this basting brush coated with turkey drippings was tempting for a cute doggie and he could not resist grabbing it before his owner noticed what was happening. If you are cooking at home this weekend, please make sure all items are away from the edge of the counter out of reach of curious pups!
Its Holiday-theme clothing Day!! Everyone could wear their favorite festive get up to work - so fun!!
This picture represents the growth of a new doctor as well as a soon-to-be doctor all during one procedure. Last week, Dr. Everett, one of our Small Animal Rotating Interns, was able to perform her first emergency C-section (plus spay)!! This mama was having trouble giving birth so we had to get the puppies out surgically to give both the puppies and mama a chance to live. Mama and puppies are doing well now. Equally exciting is that 3rd year veterinary student, Rachel (pictured on the right), was able to scrub in for the C-section and assist Dr. Everett. Rachel, student at OSU College of Veterinary Medicine, spent time shadowing our doctors for the week and was able to get super important hands-on experience that will help her in becoming a veterinarian. Good job to both of you!
We're open 24/7 even during holidays! Yes, people still ask us to make sure but we have not closed in 20 years, so we'll definitely be open this holiday season. Everyday. All day. Cancer doesn't stop for the holidays. Parvovirus doesn't stop for the holidays. Trauma doesn't stop for the holidays. Toxin ingestion increases during the holidays. The need for humane euthanasia doesn't stop for the holidays. So we are here to care for your pets, even at 2am on Christmas Day. Might as well mention our address to Santa just in case he wants to share some of his milk and cookies with us that night since we'll be awake too 🤞
On the last day of 2020, we know there are more good days coming in the new year. Here are our final thoughts for 2020: 1. We are grateful for all of the pet owners who brought their pets to us for care and understood the need for masks, curbside service and difficult logistics. 2. We are grateful for our co-workers who continued to work hard during this most difficult year. 3. We will remember all the beloved pets who passed on this year. And we are excited for the new adoptees who visited us for the first time. 4. We will remember all of our human loved ones who have passed this year as well as families who are not the same now after experiencing hardships on many fronts. 5. We are so appreciative of our human medicine counterparts who are tired and are asking for continued support from the community by encouraging good hygiene, social distancing and mask wearing while in public. 6. We are also thankful for the advancements in science to bring us hope for 2021 with the COVID-19 vaccine. Our staff diagnosed and treated animals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during a pandemic and it was not easy. It has not been easy for anyone around the world. But now we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. And we will be here for animals every day and night in 2021! We can't wait to move forward! Be Kind. Be Selfless. Wear A Mask.
Such an amazing story for the holidays- a dog missing for almost 2 months was found on Christmas Day!! Darcy, the found dog, was brought to us and Dr. Doolittle examined him with the help of Veterinary Assistant Carrie to make sure he was okay. He had lost almost half of his body weight so we ran bloodwork and discovered he had a tick disease called Ehrlichia but otherwise he was surprisingly doing fairly well!! We gave fluids to help with dehydration and discussed with the owner how to safely help Darcy gain weight. Darcy was able to go home for Christmas and relax in his own bed! Such a happy story to be part of yesterday! https://www.koco.com/article/a-christmas-miracle-oklahoma-man-reunited-with-dog-missing-for-months-thanks-to-help-from-rescue-workers/35072635 KOCO.COM ‘A Christmas miracle’: Oklahoma man reunited with dog missing for months, thanks to help from rescue workers

For patients requiring an abdominal ultrasound or cardiac work-up with echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart), we can schedule those pets with only 24 hours notice or even more quickly if the patient is critical. We can perform ultrasounds 7 days a week. For abdominal ultrasounds, Dr. Neel and several of our other doctors are able to interpret the images right away but all images along with patient history are send out to a Radiologist for confirmation and complete report. All echocardiograms require a current blood pressure, ECG, and 3-view chest xrays as part of the Cardiac work-up and we will complete those diagnostics during the same visit. All of those things are needed in order to properly diagnose your pet. An off-site Cardiologist interprets the information along with the patient history and send back a complete report with treatment/medication recommendations. All reports are ready within 12 hours and can be hastened if the pet is critical. If your primary veterinarian has determined that your pet needs an ultrasound, just send us a message to set it up.
We have had a special patient - Boris, Therapy dog at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center - who has surprised us all and beaten the odds over the past 18 months. In 2019, Boris was diagnosed with 5 different heart conditions and given 3-6 months to live originally. He has surpassed all of our expectations! Under the care of Dr. Kishore, ABVP Specialist, Boris was prescribed multiple medications and therapies to help him feel as comfortable as possible over the past 1.5 years. He has felt good enough to continue his therapy visits with patients during the pandemic by doing them virtually. We want to thank KOKH FOX 25 News, Oklahoma for sharing his story! We hope that Boris will provide strength for those fighting their own health battles right now. The odds can be beaten!! Boris has touched thousands of lives at Integris Hospital over the past several years and we know that he will continue to provide support to those who need him. https://okcfox.com/news/morning-news/wonder-dog-saves-lives-while-fighting-battles-of-his-own OKCFOX.COM Wonder Dog saves lives while fighting battles of his own
Mia, 4 year old Corgi, was brought in last week for her annual routine dental cleaning. Her mom, Dr. Doolittle, wanted to make sure Mia didn't have any hidden abscesses or dental disease so Mia had a CT (pictured) while she was anesthesitized. The CT of her head took just seconds and there were no abnormalities! Yay! So now we have great baseline imaging to compare with as Mia ages as we monitor for any changes. Advanced Imaging like CT and ultrasound can be used on a routine basis to catch abnormalities before they appear symptomatically, which can dramatically improve options for treatment.
During the holidays, we see an increase in humane euthanasias usually because families have time together to spend a few days with their ill or elderly pets and want to make the decision during that time of reflection and rememberance. We've had several messages asking if we are available today or this weekend. Pet owners are always welcome to come in for euthanasias, no appointment needed. COVID has changed some of our protocols this year so that we can continue to safely help your pet with a peaceful passing but we do want to make everyone as comfortable as possible. 1. We perform Euthanasias 24 hours a day, with no appointment necessary. If you feel it is time, please come to us even at 2am. 2. When you arrive in the parking lot, call us at 405-947-8387 and press 5 to check in over the phone. You will then be directed to a side door to park near. 3. We are allowing MASKED family members inside of our compassion room for the euthanasia procedure. Masks are required to be worn while inside of our building at all times. 4. The side door will lead directly into our compassion room, which you will enter and exit through. Pet owners are not allowed into any other area of the hospital during the visit. 5. Pet owners may stay as long as they want afterwards with their beloved pet. 6. There are 3 important options to consider for the visit - home burial(we provide a free biodegradable casket), individual cremation with ashes returned to the pet owner (price dependent on weight) or communal cremation (flat fee). We are here to assist you with this very difficult decision however it is helpful to consider the details beforehand. Again, if you feel it is your pet's time to cross the Rainbow Bridge, please come anytime, any day or night. #WearAMask #BeKind
We've got our snow shoveling staff on duty this morning - Dr. Elliott and Veterinary Assistant Carrie!! (They graciously volunteered to do it and we greatly appreciate it!) They have done a great job clearing spots for pet owner to park but please be careful if you do need to drive to see us for a pet emergency.
We want to thank Daisy's owner for the super cute cookies!! Our staff appreciates the treats! Made by Sweet Bliss Cookie Company in Yukon
What's one thing we pet owners can count on? The love of our animals. ❤💜❤ We get their attention, their cuddles, urgent whines at 5p for dinner, kneading on your arm when sitting on the couch, excitement when you walk in the front door, CONSTANT and CONSISTENT feelings of belonging and home when you're with them, no matter what is going on in the outside world. So be sure to take to spend time each day focused completely your pets. How can you resist a cute face like Cricket's?! Put away your phone for a few minutes. Log off of zoom, social media and the news. It will improve your mood and, according to a few studies, it may even improve your overall health. Wear A Mask😷 Be Kind. Be Selfless.
A behind the scenes look at the filming of the KOKH FOX 25 News, Oklahoma news story on Boris, Therapy Dog, who is beating the odds with 5 heart conditions. Here RVT Korrine, RVT Hayley, Veterinary Assistant Carrie and Veterinary Assistant Madison connected Boris to our ECG monitoring system to check Boris' heart function. Check out the news story here : https://okcfox.com/news/morning-news/wonder-dog-saves-lives-while-fighting-battles-of-his-own
For patients requiring an abdominal ultrasound or cardiac work-up with echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart), we can schedule those pets with only 24 hours notice or even more quickly if the patient is critical.
Boris has touched thousands of lives at Integris Hospital over the past several years and we know that he will continue to provide support to those who need him. https://okcfox.com/news/morning-news/wonder-dog-saves-lives-while-fighting-battles-of-his-own OKCFOX.COM Wonder Dog saves lives while fighting battles of his own
Its National Blood Donor Month and we are looking for qualified Canine and Feline blood donors! Thank you to KFOR-TV for having Dr. Hodgson, our Blood Donor Program Coordinator, on live to discuss our program and the increased demand for animal blood donors! https://kfor.com/news/local/oklahoma-veterinarians-in-need-of-canine-feline-blood-donors/ If you are interested in applying, please fill out this form - https://forms.gle/umvB5hRMrRPQhX2g9 KFOR.COM Oklahoma veterinarians in need of canine, feline blood donors
RVT Kasi (pictured left) is finishing her shift and the overnight crew is just getting started! Dr. Dinisi (middle), Veterinary Assistant Samantha and other staff members are here to help your pet tonight. Prices are the same 24 hours a day, no extra emergency fee.
Sophia, Veterinary Assistant and Pre-Vet student at Oklahoma State University, has new best friend. Dub visited us and was a little hesitant at first. But by the end of his time inside of our hospital, he wanted all of Sophia's attention and made it clear that he preferred she sit on the floor with him in her lap ❤
Dr. Hodgson is about to go LIVE on KFOR-TV to talk about our Canine and Feline Blood Donor Program! Her segment starts at approx. 4:37pm. Find out more about our blood donor program go to our website https://www.neel.vet/blood-donor-program
🚨We need canine and feline volunteers for our Blood Donor Program!!🚨 Blood donors are literal LIFE SAVERS for many of our patients! Sage, pictured, donated 400 mls of blood today and she is looking for fellow donors! Normally, we use a combination of In-house donors (qualified staff pets) and blood products ordered from a national blood bank. However during the pandemic, the national blood banks have wait times of almost 3 months. That really doesn't help our patients who will need the blood products in a matter of minutes, hours or days. So we are opening up our Blood Donor Program to your pets! Dogs or cats who meet certain criteria can then be tested for a universal blood type that can be used for blood donations. We prefer those who live in the OKC metro or surrounding communities. Benefits for qualified blood donors - free 8lb bag of Royal Canin dog food for each donation, free tag stating that they are a blood donor, free initial blood testing and free blood products equal to the amount they donated if the need ever arise. If you have a healthy dog (50lbs or over) or cat (10lbs or over) that is 1-7 years old and you are want to submit information to apply to become a blood donor, please use the form below to submit your application. We will review the applications and contact those who meet certain criteria based upon your answers on the form. Those who we contact will be eligible for further testing to determine if they can be admitted into the program. https://forms.gle/rjgVuCnwAfrz57GZ6

We want to thank Barry Mangold News 9 for interviewing RVT Kasi, Dr. Hodgson and Kasi's dog Denali today for a future story about our need for qualified canine and feline blood donors! Denali has been a blood donor for several years and she will retire this summer. She would like to enlist her dog and cat friends to become blood donors now to take her place. Our blood supply from national blood banks is taking 3 months for delivery which does not help in an emergency situation so we need more local donors to rely on for life-saving blood. We will let you know when the story airs on KWTV - NEWS 9 later this week. Visit our website https://www.neel.vet/blood-donor-program to learn more and apply.

This is Remy's room. Our compassion room. Remy was a special dog to our staff. About 5 years ago, his mom went through chemotherapy and asked if we would care for Remy while she had treatment. Remy was unable to use his back legs so needed to be lifted in and out of a wheelchair, among other issues, and it was too much for his mom at that time. So Remy stayed in our ICU for weeks and months at a time. We all cared for him and loved him like he was our own. After awhile it was clear, Remy was ready to cross the Rainbow Bridge. That was a hard day for everyone. In rememberance of him, Remy's room was designed with care and is now used to comfort those families who are experiencing loss themselves. This room still holds Remy's ashes and pawprint in the corner as well as his nose print and photos on the wall. Even during Covid, we are allowing masked family members inside the room for the final moments of their pet's life. Please call us when you are in the parking lot to check in and we will tell you where to go next. We hope that by knowing Remy's story, pet owners can find comfort in that he will be a kind face to greet their babies on the other side of the bridge.

We want to tell you about little 4 month old Archie and why his story is something to open eyes to situations we (and many other veterinary hospitals) see too many times. He was brought in for vomiting and diarrhea and tested positive for parvovirus. Unfortunately after discussion of the severity of the disease and the need for hospitalization, Archie was abandoned in our hospital. Why? There may be many reasons - finances, emotions, etc. We will never know. But the point here is Archie was abandoned with an extremely contagious disease that is completely preventable. Parvovirus is fatal for unvaccinated puppies who do not receive proper supportive care. Its a fact. Those in the veterinary field can identify the distinct smell of the bloody diarrhea caused by the virus from across the parking lot. Its not pleasant. Its relentless. And preventable by getting all proper vaccines and boosters from a veterinarian. Any veterinarian! You don't have to come to us for vaccines, go to your local primary care veterinarian but be sure to go back for all boosters and stay away from public areas until your dog is fully vaccinated. Each booster gives another layer of protection so that your puppy hopefully doesn't require a hospital stay potentially costing thousands of dollars for parvo hospitalization. Our Isolation Unit is where parvo puppies stay for their care. We have 8 kennels in the unit and many days it is more than half full, especially in the spring, summer and fall when many puppies are born and go to new homes, unvaccinated. One myth about parvo is that it only spreads during warm months. But here it is winter and Archie is positive. Preventative care (veterinarian-administered vaccines, flea/tick/heartworm prevention year-round and at least yearly exams) is the #1 thing you can do to keep you pets as healthy as possible for as long as possible. Save a life and save your wallet!! **Archie recovered and was adopted. He loves his forever family.**
**Update 9am - Owners arrived and have been updated on the very serious condition of their pup. The humane and most caring decision has been made to help him cross the Rainbow Bridge. The family is obviously distraught. Keep them in your thoughts.** ** Update 8:10am - no owner has come for forward. Pup is still very critical in ICU. We are keeping the pup comfortable, pain free and treating wounds.** Tonight, we had a Good Samaritan bring in a Doberman that was hit by a car just north of our hospital. No microchip or tags on the collar but most likely has been cared for recently. The dog is being stabilized but is fairly critical. Family may live nearby in Bethany/NW OKC/Warr Acres areas. If you own this dog, please send us a message identifying sex and any other details that may confirm ownership.

This week temperatures and wind chills (-20 this weekend) will drop to levels we have not seen in years. Pets are particularly susceptible to hypothermia, frozen digits and even death if they are left outside for a prolonged period of time without shelter. Please bring your pets inside for warmth and comfort. If your pet exhibits signs of an emergency, (grey/white/blue gums, trouble breathing, lethargy or sudden collapse, etc) please bring them in anytime to be examined by a veterinarian. We do not charge an emergency fee any time of the day or night.

These winter storms, record breaking temperatures and rolling blackouts have been intense! We're still here if your pet needs us, even during all the craziness. Be careful driving! Dr. Miranda, Veterinary Assistant Carrie, Dr. Elliott and Dr. Everett are smiling behind their masks - happy to help 24 hours a day.
We want to recognize our awesome staff members who are staying at our hospital for at least 72 hours during the snow storm - sleeping in exam rooms during down time - so that we can continue caring for our patients. They are amazing and really stepped up to keep everything going and cover shifts of co-workers who live out of town so that they don't have to drive in. It takes a lot of teamwork and dedication to make our hospital run during difficult times. THANK YOU!! Carter, Roberto, Dr. Logan, Shane, Madison, Dr. Delmas, Dr. Jones, Dr. Domnick, Dr. Wilde, Kristi, Lorraine, Nick, Samantha, Cristi and Carrie. Not pictured because they were treating a patient - Dr. Dinisi, Dr. Rider, Lindsey, Megan, and Courtney. Also Holley who was taking her sleep shift. Special thanks also to Chase, Shy, Ryann, Jodi and Joy for coming in throughout the day to help as well. We continue to remain open 24 hours a day during the snowy conditions. Please be careful if you do have to travel to see us for a pet emergency.
We're checking hearts 💕 on Valentine's Day! Yes we are open 24 hours a day even with the snow storm arriving. We don't encourage anyone traveling to us for anything other than emergency situations. If you are unsure if your pet is having an emergency, please call us or message us through social media. Emergencies can include: 1. Trouble/abnormal breathing 2. White/grey/blue gums 3. Ingesting toxin, toy, trash, magnets, corn cobs, etc 4. Seizing 5. Trauma - Hit by car, attacked by another animal, gunshot wound 6. Distended or acutely painful abdomen 7. Staggering or unable to stand, very lethargic 8. Extreme and continuous pain (shrieking, etc) after activity 9. Active bleeding from laceration or if you can see deep tissue or bone from wound, de-gloving 10. Unspayed Female pets - difficulty giving birth or abnormal discharge 11. Any pet unable to urinate
Once the snow storm arrives this weekend, we encourage pet owners to stay inside their homes cuddled with their animals. However, if you do have an animal emergency, we will be staffed and open 24 hours a day. If the storm gets bad enough, some of our doctors, technicians and other staff will be staying at our hospital round-the-clock instead of having a shift change in order to keep everyone safe and off the roads. We've even got make-shift sleeping quarters for those staff who stay. Our critical ICU patients will always be cared for and all emergencies will be triaged. Remember we do not charge an emergency fee any time, day or night. If you think your pet may be having an emergency but are not sure, please message us on social media or call us at 405-947-8387 & press option 5.
Thank you KFOR-TV for interviewing our doctors about the dangers that pet owners need to be aware of during the record low temperatures we will experience over the next several days. Dr. Dinisi and Dr. Everett have some great tips to protect your pets so be sure to watch the news video included. Please keep pets inside a warm shelter with fresh water beginning tonight through at least late next week. This is a miracle named Skipper. Literally. She has survived longer than we suspect any other canine has (at just 4 days old - published research does not indicate one has been born alive) with her combination of congenital conditions. You might notice she looks a little different - 6 legs! She has a type of congenital conjoining disorders called monocephalus dipygus and monocephalus rachipagus dibrachius tetrapus which simply means she has 1 head and chest cavity but 2 pelvic regions, 2 lower urinary tracts, 2 reproductive systems, 2 tails and 6 legs among other things. It is likely that she was going to have a litter mate but they did not separate in utero. She also has signs of spina bifida along her spine. Positively, her organs appear to be in great shape, she is peeing and pooping, and is very strong! She nurses well and is growing appropriately so far. All of her legs move and respond to stimulus just like a normal puppy. Its possible she may need physical therapy and assistance with mobility as she gets older. We will continue to research her conditions, monitor her development during rechecks and help keep Skipper pain-free and comfortable for the rest of life. She is doing well at home now.

We want to thank clients Laura and Greg Sam for bringing our staff super yummy mexican food from Cocina De Mino!! It was so appreciated ❤
Veterinary Assistant Megan is still feeling and looking great at the beginning of her 6th day at Neel Veterinary Hospital Bed & Breakfast during this snow storm aftermath. Sleeping in an exam room doesn't phase her! She always has a great attitude and helps her co-workers with anything they need!
Oklahomans really pull together during times of crisis and one of our ICU nurses experienced that firsthand this morning. She had just worked an overnight shift caring for our critical patients and headed home. As she was driving, she became stuck on the road and tried to dig her car out in single digit temperatures. A very nice man drove by, stopped and helped get her car moving again. When she thanked him and asked how she could repay him, he said when he saw her wearing her Neel Vet logo jacket he knew he had to help. He said that our own Dr. Jones (pictured here) saved his PTSD service dog's life a few months ago so he wanted to show how much that meant to him by helping another NVH staff member in need. A full-circle moment of selfless assistance! Thank you to everyone helping each other during this really difficult week - you never know how much your kindness might mean for someone else.

Skipper is doing great today for her recheck! Her eyes are very close to opening entirely, she is moving her legs well and gaining weight. We are extremely proud of her owners for working with her each day on leg physical therapy to make sure all 6 legs grow strong - she is even stronger now than last week. As you can see, her coat is shiny and fluffy - just super cute! ❤ One-of-a-kind!! *Many people have asked - are we going to remove her extra legs? At this time, we do not think that will be necessary. It's even a possibility that her extra legs will help provide extra balance and stability with her movement. She is very unique so there are many unknowns.
We are so happy to have Ellery, 4th year veterinary student from the UTCVM-University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine for her clinical externship this month! She was able to assist Dr. Kishore in surgery for multiple procedures so that she could gain valuable experiences that will further her skills and knowledge in the profession. She also spent time with Dr. Donnelly in ICU, assisting Dr. Fryer with exotic patients and with emergency cases as well. We regularly host veterinary students from across the country and offer hands-on learning experiences that will prepare them for their careers after graduation. P.S. Ellery will return to us this summer as Dr. Pennington, one of our Small Animal Rotating Interns!!! P.S.S. Did you catch the gorgeous sunset outside of our surgical suite?! Makes us excited for more pink and purple skies this spring.
These Animal Welfare officers did a great job during our latest snow storm and continue to do their best with sometimes limited resources! They don't get enough credit for the hard work. When these officers bring injured animals to us for emergency care, they do so because they have the animal's health as the priority. We encourage every animal lover to volunteer at least once at their local animal shelter to help not only the animals up for adoption but also to see how much these officers care for the stray animals in their facilities. Its eye-opening and humbling. OKC Animal Welfare March 1 at 9:00 AM · We wanted to give a huge shout out to our field officers! They worked overtime 12 days in a row during the storm and responded to over 272 cruelty calls. Thank you for your service!
😍Skipper is so cute at 10 days old!! She visited us for a recheck and she has gained about 2 oz in a week so she doing well with nursing at home. Our doctors showed her mom how to do some simple range of motion exercises at home to help keep Skipper’s legs strong. She is scooting around and determined to find something to latch onto, which is normal for a puppy her age. Skipper continues to remain strong and we are so happy with her growth!

With today's announcement in regards to lifting some state COVID-19 mandates, we want pet owners to know that we will continue to utilize Curbside Service with the only exceptions to that being masked clients who want to visit their pet in ICU or if a masked family wants to be present for a euthanasia. For all other situations, pet owners will remain in their vehicles outside or may drop their pet off and return home while their pet is being treated. Our staff will continue to wear masks at all times inside of our building as well. Each month we will review the situation and make the best decision for the safety and protection of our staff so that we may remain open 24 hours a day so that we may care for your pet. Almost 1 year ago exactly, we implemented these policies without knowing how long this would go on. Looking back, we've been through the most DIFFICULT year ever - from dealing with a huge influx of patients being treated because several primary care clinics closed at various times, conserving PPE with procedure restriction to being cursed/yelled at by pet owners who did not understand why Curbside Service is so important. We greatly appreciate the clients who have trusted us with their beloved pets during these past 12 months. Things are improving so we hope that millions more people receive the vaccine, mask wearing in public is taken seriously, social distancing is considered and that EVERYONE IS KIND TO EACH OTHER!!
Little Archie prefers to be carried like a baby while visiting us today for his neuter ❤ You might remember his story from several weeks ago - he was abandoned at our hospital after being diagnosed with parvo and was adopted by one of our staff members. Archie is doing great now and oh so cute!
We have recieved letters and calls from across the United States from teachers and students who are following Skipper’s story. These letters are so touching! The kids wrote to Skipper encouraging her and also letting her know that differences make everyone special ❤ One student even drew all sorts of characters with 6 legs showing that they are having a great life and that Skipper will too. And another wrote how she has spina bifida, just like Skipper, and wanted her to know that her life will be good and happy. The kids are all so kind!!

Harley and his owner visited us today and dressed up early for St. Patrick's Day!! So handsome!! Don't forget to wear your green tomorrow- our staff will be wearing their green too! 🍀
Shadow is such a sweet boy!! 💕 Thank you for the kind words! Sarah Higginbotham recommends Neel Veterinary Hospital. 23 hrs · Our sweet boy Shadow had an intestinal obstruction. We took him to Neel where he was promptly treated. He had urgent surgery to remove the obstruction and received excellent post-op care in the ICU for 2 days. Every one of the staff members was professional & kind. Special thanks to Dr. Fryer who performed Shadow’s surgery, Dr. Eisenhower who treated him postoperative in the ICU and Dr. Neel. We were able to visit anytime we wanted and provided updates via text message. We are forever grateful to the doctors and staff and Neel Veterinary Hospital.
Thank you so much to the client who sent us these beautiful flowers today! We all have our bad days but we understand that you are worried about your pet and it's stressful. These flowers definitely brighten things up!
With today's announcement in regards to the governor lifting some state COVID-19 mandates, we want pet owners to know that we will continue to utilize Curbside Service with the only exceptions to that being masked clients who want to visit their pet in ICU or if a masked family wants to be present for a euthanasia.

If your pet needs an abdominal ultrasound or cardiac workup with echocardiogram, please message us to schedule. Dr. Neel performs these imaging procedures 7 days a week and patients can be scheduled as little as 24 hours notice. A full report will be sent to your primary veterinarian within 2-12 hours, depending on how critical the patient is at the time. This important diagnostic tool can be the difference in finding proper treatment to help your pet live a longer life.
In her 42nd year of being a veterinarian, Dr. Neel enjoys her usual schedule packed with abdominal and cardiac ultrasounds but today she was needed in surgery for a cystotomy (removing bladder stones from inside the bladder) - something she has done hundreds of times. She always tells our new veterinarians that she still loves coming to work everyday and each day is different and exciting. From her beginnings as a mobile vet using a pickup she couldn't turn off for fear of it not starting again to our hospital now employing 18 veterinarians and over 130 staff members, she continues to push the veterinary profession forward to reach new heights. Here's to 42 years and many more to go!

We want to congratulate Madison, our Surgical Veterinary Assistant, for being accepted into Veterinary School at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine!! Woohoo!! And everyone is extra jealous because Ross is located in the Caribbean so she'll get to study with ocean breezes blowing everyday - not sure it could be any better 🏝⛱ You will make an awesome, caring and compassionate veterinarian Madison!!
It's National Puppy Day!!! Four month old Bernese Mountain Dog Max visited us for his puppy vaccines yesterday. Dr. Barritt administered his vaccines to help protect against multiple diseases. He was definitely a hit with all the staff - who can resist his fluffy coat and adorable face 😍 Show us your puppies in the comments.
