Thank you Chatham County Living Magazine for the article on Nest Estate Planning in your fall issue! Dream Weaver Photos did such an excellent job capturing the essence of the firm in pictures. I particularly love the one with my paralegal, Samantha, and her daughter holding family pictures. Those are some of my familyโs favorite pictures and Iโm so glad we could incorporate them into the shoot. Thank you again, Beth Logan, for writing such a great article about us! I've always offered College Prep Packages for young adults headed off to college, but I never dreamed they would be so popular in 2020. Last year, I had a few extra-prepared parents contact me to make a power of attorney, living will, HIPAA waiver, and emergency ID cards for their college-bound 18 year olds, but this year, I am getting more and more calls from parents saying that their child's college has requested or required every returning student to have one or more of these documents.
Many parents don't know that once their child turns 18, the parents no longer have access to their health, financial, or academic information. Schools and doctor's offices get calls from parents all the time and cannot give out any information to a parent about the student/patient. And many young adults would prefer for their parents to continue to have some role in these decisions. However, ultimately, it must be the young adult's decision on whether to grant the parents these powers.
If you're interested in these documents for your college-bound child (18 or over), we're offering the package for $150. Let us know if we can help. Contact us at 912-405-NEST or www.NestEstatePlanning.com for more information.

At the end of each estate plan, we record a "Legacy Interview" to add to the client's digital estate plan. This interview captures what a client really wants their family to know, do, be, love, and remember. I've heard the most heartwarming stories and life advice. It's my favorite part of my job and this week's Legacy Interviews really took the cake! I had a father of grown children bring his kids favorite bedtime stories and read them at the end of the interview and another dad who brought his guitar and sang a song for his kids at the end of his interview. My heart is so full!
If you are getting together with older family members this season, I encourage you to record your own "Legacy Interview" with them. One day that recording will be priceless to your family. Imagine sharing your grandmother's stories with YOUR grandchildren. Or imagine sharing your life story with your great grandchildren. For some ideas on questions to ask in a legacy interview, check out the comment section!
Who do you want to (or wish you had) interviewed and what would you like to ask them?
First up in our "strangest things to do with ashes" series is DIAMONDS. ๐๐๐ Did you know that you can have your loved one's ashes pressed into a diamond!? Even a pink or blue diamond! What do you think? Few things on this earth last longer than a diamond (#diamondsareforever). Would you want to be a diamond? If so, what cut and color would you choose?
It doesn't come cheap, but more and more companies are offering this service and it's becoming increasingly popular each year. Want to learn more about the process and the cost? Here are some links to guides on "ashes to diamonds", the companies, and their processes.

Death and taxes are inevitable, and since taxes will never be fun, some people have decide to make death more entertaining. In the coming weeks we'll be highlighting some interesting things you can have done with cremation ashes (besides putting grandma's urn on your fireplace). This collage should give you some clues. Any guesses?
What happens when an eccentric millionaire dies without a will?
Zappos founder Tony Hsieh left a โmessโ of an estate worth hundreds of millions of dollars โ including deals scrawled on thousands of Post-it notes covering his walls (each of which may or may not be an enforceable contract!?). Without a will to work with, Hsieh's family is trying to trace his full worth and recent business dealings without a roadmap to the assets.
Justin H. Brown, a partner at the law firm Troutman Sanders LLP, told the media that the sticky notes could be a crucial sticking point. โYouโre going to have to look at each specific sticky note and decide if itโs a contract โ is it binding? Was he in the correct state of mind โ did he have the capacity to even enter a contract?โ
Stay tuned to see what happens in this nail biting probate saga! #hotmess

I really love my job. Not everyone can say that they've drawn up a document legally authorizing their ex-boyfriend to be fed to sharks. ๐ฆ Pertinent selection from his estate planning documents are pasted below. (Posted with express permission from said ex-boyfriend.) ๐ #careerhighlights #canwefeed2020tothesharkstoo?
"1.B. I desire to be buried at sea according to MPRSA (Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act), which authorizes the burial of human remains at sea. The general MPRSA permit is published in the federal regulations at 40 CFR 229.1. I do not wish to be cremated, just throw me off the boat. The sharks will make sure I am properly interred."
