New Braunfels Utilities is a community-owned utilities company, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for customers by providing services and preserving the environment as good stewards of natural resources. NBU was established in 1942 when the City Commission of New Braunfels purchased the electric transmission and distribution system from the Public Service Company of San Antonio. In 1959 the city of New Braunfels assigned operations of the water and sewer systems to NBU. The company employs over 200 people in three lines of business: electric, water and sewer/wastewater. These NBU systems have a net value of $260 million with annual revenues of over $116 million. The city of New Braunfels receives an annual payment of approximately $5.7 million. The NBU Electric System consists of more than 689 miles of overhead and underground distribution lines. It has more than 30,000 electric meters on the system.

NBU will begin major construction work on the North Kuehler Interceptor Upgrade Projects in mid-October with an anticipated completion of October 2021. The project entails three significant North Kuehler interceptor projects that will be in progress simultaneously. We request your help with keeping parked cars off of the street each week day in the construction area from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., beginning October 15, 2020, until the completion of this project.

Non-drought water restrictions go into effect today, meaning you can water your lawn with a sprinkler or irrigation system twice per week based on the last digit of your address. Customers may water before 10:00 a.m. and after 8:00 p.m. on their designated days. Watering with a hand-held hose, bucket, drip irrigation system, or a soaker hose that does not spray water in the air is allowed at any time on any day. For up-to-date drought stages and conservation measures, visit nbutexas.com/current-water-restriction-status. The non-drought water stage restrictions schedule for irrigation is as follows: Addresses ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 may water on Monday and Thursday. Addresses ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 may water on Tuesday and Friday. Watering is not allowed on weekends unless a customer has been granted a water variance.

NBU Water Operation crews are currently working with a contractor to replace a valve and tie in a water main in an area off Rio Road. Customers in the area will continue to be without water until 5:00 p.m. today, when the project is expected to be completed.
NBU Water Operation Crews have responded to a water main break at the intersection of IH-35 S and S Walnut Ave. Crews are in the process of locating valves to isolate the water main and begin repairs. Customers located near S Mesquite and S Walnut Ave may experience low water pressure during the repair. We will provide updates as information becomes available.
NBU Water Operations will be working on the water infrastructure at the corner of S. Seguin Ave and W. County Line Rd. today, November 3, 2020 between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., weather permitting. The construction will cause a lane closure on W. County Line Rd between McQueeney Rd. and S. Seguin Ave. The lane closure is necessary in order to maneuver equipment, materials, and crews safely.
