About

Founded in 1964, New York Blood Center (NYBC) is a nonprofit organization that is one of the largest independent, community-based blood centers in the world. NYBC, along with its operating divisions Community Blood Center of Kansas City, Missouri (CBC), Innovative Blood Resources (IBR), Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD), and Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC), collect approximately 4,000 units of blood products each day and serve local communities of more than 75 million people in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT), Mid Atlantic area (PA, DE, MD, VA), Missouri and Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rhode Island, and Southern New England. NYBC and its operating divisions also provide a wide array of transfusion-related medical services to over 500 hospitals nationally, including Comprehensive Cell Solutions, the National Center for Blood Group Genomics, the National Cord Blood Program, and the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, which — among other milestones — developed a practical screening method for hepatitis B as well as a safe, effective and affordable vaccine, and a patented solvent detergent plasma process innovating blood-purification technology worldwide.

This might be the coolest #TattooTuesday we've ever had. Meet Giulia P. - blood donor, and owner of one epic tattoo. Giulia is O-, and although she hates needles, she got this tattoo as a reminder of just how important it is for her to give blood. O- is the universal donor, and ALWAYS needed. Shout out to Giulia P., and all of our dedicated donors who continue to serve the community by giving blood!
At a time when there's so many things we can't control, there is something that we can: hope. Being a blood donor means giving hope to those in need; hope that will help patients push through their treatments, hope that will bring families and communities together, and hope that will change lives. You are essential - you can save lives. Give hope - donate blood today: smarturl.it/NYBC_GiveHope
75% of our incoming blood supply has been sacrificed due to the closing of schools and colleges. The challenges associated with virtual vs. in person learning have led to difficulties in creating donation opportunities for our newest and youngest donors: high school students. These students are not only missing out on many high school memories, but on the opportunity to do something that not only helps others, but reminds them that they are part of something bigger. The number of first time donors at our blood drives has decreased significantly, and we need your help to get our communities, especially students, into our donor centers or at one of our community blood drives. Find a location, call a couple of friends, cousins, nieces and nephews, sports teams, whoever you can find, and go donate! Search by zip code for a donation location here: smartur.it/NYBC_ZipSearchFB
It would be boo-tiful of you to share your Smile with us – Amazon Smile that is! 👻 Every time you place an order via Amazon Smile, New York Blood Center receives a donation. Got ink? Give blood! Having tattoos does not permanently defer you from being able to donate. You can usually donate immediately after receiving a tattoo in licensed parlors in most American states, however the following exclusions apply and will incur a 3-month deferral period: NY, GA, ID, MD, MA, NY, PA, VT, UT, WY, Washington D.C., US territories or any other country. #TattooTuesday
Before COVID-19, mobile blood drives hosted by high schools, colleges, businesses and other organizations made up about 75% of the region’s incoming blood supply, but the number of blood drives has dropped by two-thirds this year due to the pandemic. The number of blood drives each month has fallen from 500 to an alarmingly low total of 130. We need your help to find locations where we can host blood drives. If you or someone you know is interested in hosting a blood drive, please apply here: smarturl.it/NYBC_HostFB
