Dear Newman Families, We have come to the end of our first semester and almost the end of the calendar year 2020! Christmas is here! Thank you for all your support and cooperation to help Newman help its students achieve their education—both through online and in-person instruction. Thanks also to all our faculty and staff for their continued commitment to our students. Based on TEA’s options for Texas school systems regarding student proficiency, we ask all online students who have failed in any subject (scored less than 70%) in the last 9 weeks’ cycle to return to in-person instruction in January 2021. This plan will help ensure excellence and prevent failure among Newman Warriors. If you are an online student/parent of an online student, you may receive a letter of warning concerning failing grades in the last 6 - week progress report period. If the student still fails by the end of 9 weeks, the student/parent will hear from your campus about the need to start in-person instruction. For information on how to switch to in-person instruction and also for the appeal process regarding the school’s decision requiring your child’s in-person instruction, please contact your campus principal. We will continue to observe COVID-19 safety protocols to the best of our ability. Thankfully, we are seeing that children are neither as vulnerable to the virus, nor as prone to be carriers as adults. You will be glad to note that due to an unprecedented opportunity to avail of 15 more additional classrooms at the NIAA elementary campus in Arlington, we are able to transfer in-person instruction students and teachers of our small NIAG over-flow site to the NIAA Fielder campus and utilize the Grace campus as a District-wide online instruction and training center! At last, our elementary teachers will be relieved of teaching both online and in-person instruction and be able to focus on one mode of instruction. Our elementary online teachers from across the District will be trained and will operate from the Grace campus under the leadership of Mike Kunkel, our Online Education Coordinator. (Both Ashley Blakeslee and Stephanie Robinson will be co-principals at the NIAA elementary campus, forming a strong and extraordinary team). Newman’s dream of making its online instruction an outstanding one will become a reality! We hope to extend this service to our secondary teachers in the future. Together, despite COVID-19, we can still make dreams happen for our children. As you support the school, the school will continue to prepare its students for their great future. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Dr. Sheba George Superintendent https://www.newmanacademy.org/warrior_news/failing_students_required NEWMANACADEMY.ORG www.newmanacademy.org

Thank you, Tier One and Officer Ryan for keeping us safe at Newman!
Newman Families, Students and Staff, We hope you are safe and warm. Although our administrators and teachers did their very best to bring online instruction to our students on Feb.16, it has not been possible for a successful and meaningful learning to take place due to power and internet interruptions in many homes. Hence, Newman is suspending instruction through Friday, February 19th. There is no doubt that uninterrupted learning is key to students' success, but our earnest efforts are being interrupted by this unexpected winter weather. Nevertheless, we will continue to be Newman Warriors who overcome! Kindly encourage your children to read and do assignments that teachers have sent them (if they are able to access assignments). Chess (which is part of Newman curriculum) may be a great game to keep the children and families gainfully occupied. Very importantly, stay warm and safe. Connect with other Newman families/staff and extend a hand of help if needed. Send notes of encouragement via text and social media to Newman families. To the best of our ability, let us make sure that no Newman family is left alone to struggle in this cold weather. Warm words and kind gestures will go a long way to keep us all safe during icy conditions. Newman Warriors, arise to brighten and warm this icy world! We can do it! With much love and appreciation for all Newman families, Dr. Sheba George Superintendent
For anyone that needs to use the Cedar Hill event Center to warm up/stay at, please call ahead so they can let you in: Mr. Petrie (509-868-5855) or Mr. Gondeiro (406-799-7729) The roads at NICH are snow packed, and there is a slight hill to drive up, but it is available to those who need something in that area.
School is closed the rest of this week - Thursday & Friday (no virtual school either). ❄️ Mansfield Activities Center (beside the public library) and NICH event center at our Cedar Hill campus are open and warm for families to get out of the cold if you are still without electricity. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those without power, water, and basic needs during this difficult time. To give the children something to look forward to, we will have their Valentines celebrations at the end of the day on Monday. ❤️
*Hi parents! Texas Education Agency has just notified us that we do NOT have to have “virtual school” on our snow days this week after all - they are waiving these days due to the state of emergency we are in, and we will not have to make these days up in June after all.*We apologize for this last minute change. If your child has been able to do the work, that’s great - it certainly doesn’t hurt; however, many have not been able to. Moving forward, no work is required this afternoon or tomorrow. School is simply CLOSED (old fashioned snow days this afternoon and tomorrow...Tuesday and Wednesday). When Thursday is decided, we will let you know ASAP. Please take care of yourselves and your families during this time. ❤️
Hi parents! School will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday this week, but all students will have virtual school on both days. This means we won’t have to make up extra “bad weather days” in June! Teachers will email virtual lesson details to parents by this evening. ❄️
We are sorry for any inconvenience, our Mansfield campus internet is currently down - AT&T is working on it, but they aren't sure when the problem will be fixed. The school phones are also down because of this. If you need to reach the school, please message a teacher on Remind or come by in person. We are very sorry for this inconvenience.
Dear Newman Families, What a week this has been! We pray that you have weathered the storm without too much difficulty and are coming out victorious. We all look forward to warmer days ahead. We will be returning to in person and online instruction on Monday, Feb. 22. Even though some of our campuses experienced water line breakages, our fabulous operations and maintenance teams, along with our wonderful church partners, have been able to make all the needed repairs. We have also received a green light from the cities our campuses are located in, that the water is safe to drink. We are all looking forward to returning to school on Monday, and seeing our classrooms filled with our precious students! Please reach out to your teacher or principal with any questions. Elementary POWWOW!!!!
Hi families - We hope you had a nice spring break! School resumes tomorrow morning at 7:45 am sharp! If your virtual student is joining us in person for the first time, they can see Mrs. Anthony at the carline drop off door for help getting to their room, or you can walk them to the school office and Miss Vicki will help them. Happy fourth quarter! 😊
