19 years ago today we were staging in the boat show when the first plane hit the World Trade Center.
The silence that took over the show site was deafening – exhibitors who had traveled to Newport felt far away from their families at a time when they just wanted to be home. Radios were blaring for the latest news, which only got worse as the day progressed. We were to open in two days - it was hard to imagine doing that in the wake of such tragedy. However, we were all there and ready. So the gates opened and people came, but the air was somber and the world would never be the same.
We must never forget.
As boaters we all care about the environment.
