Flower is enjoying autumn. We hope you are too!
Did you know that 1 out of 3 pets will get lost during their lifetime? Many never find their way back home. Microchips make reuniting lost pets with their families much more likely. If your pet does not have a microchip, now is a good time to do it!
Are you ready for some football? Olson and Flower put on their KC bandanas AND their game faces. They are serious fans!
Maggie looked adorable in her jacket on this cold, rainy day!
Flower is getting into the spirit of Halloween!
Olson had fun with his friends Luna and Audrey at the dog park today! What a treat!
With the cold weather coming in, it is a good time to remember to bang on the hood before starting your car. This simple act could save the life of an animal trying to keep warm.
To protect your dog from heartworm disease, have it tested annually and give preventative all 12 months. Heartworm testing is only $18.75 during October! Give us a call to set up an appointment.
Have we seen your cat lately? Our doctors (and Flower) recommend that your cat visit us for a wellness exam every year. Give us a call to schedule an appointment for your cat! 🐱🐾
#12345, aka Flower the Clinic Cat, is at it again 😼. She was in the treatment area chewing on trash bag liners. Unfortunately, she had to do a little time. Silly Flower! 🐈
Flower & Olson hope you have a Happy Monday!
It looks like cooler days are ahead. Now is a good time to think about shelter for neighborhood cats. This illustration shows an easy method to make a shelter and keep a cat warm this winter.
Thank you to Dr. Friesen and Dr. Tonn for being amazing bosses! Everyone knows that they are talented and caring doctors. But, they are also supportive bosses. We appreciate the many ways you have encouraged us throughout the years and made Newton Animal Hospital a great place to work.
This is National Veterinary Technician Week. Our techs are amazing! It is hard to summarize all that they do. They work as dental hygienists, lab technicians, surgical technicians, radiology technicians, in addition to providing loving care to their patients. We are so fortunate to have all of them on our staff. Thank you Cassie, Kimberly, Heather, Lucinda, and McKenzie (not pictured) for all you do! #nationalvettechweek #ourvettechsarethebest #newtonanimalhospitalks
Flower is nice and cozy on her winter blanket. Because of the ice and bitterly cold temperature, we recommend that all pets be inside. If your pet cannot come inside. Be sure they have access to a warm shelter lined with straw. You can place waterproof burlap or a carpet flap over the door to minimize the cold air that comes in. Also be sure to replace the water in their dish several times throughout the day to avoid having it frozen.
What a cool cat! Some of you may remember Chocolate Muffin who was our clinic cat several years ago. He is now at home with Dr. Friesen's family. The Friesen family shared this picture of Chocolate Muffin's Halloween costume. Please share pictures of your pets dressed up for the holiday!
Flower and the staff had a great time handing out Halloween treat bags to the dogs and cats who came to the clinic yesterday. We hope you all have a Happy Halloween! #flowerlovestreatbags #welovehalloween #flowerthecliniccat #newtonanimalhospitalks
We learned that we had a positive covid exposure. As a result, we will be CLOSED this weekend to allow professionals to disinfect the clinic. It is our intention to open on Monday, unless we are advised otherwise. We want to act in the best interests of clients, staff, and community. It is necessary at this time to return to strictly curbside service. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Happy National Cat Day to Flower! She makes every day at Newton Animal Hospital an adventure! She is a purr-fect addition to our staff. Who are the cats who make your days special? #weloveflower #flowermakeseverydayspecial #nationalcatday #flowerthecliniccat #newtonanimalhospitalks
IMMEDIATE OPENING: PART-TIME KENNEL ASSISTANT Our kennel assistants take care of our clinic pets, Flower and Olson, as well as our boarded pets. This includes feeding, walking, and cleaning runs/litter boxes of our boarding pets. The Kennel Assistants also do general cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, taking out the trash, and cleaning the dog yard. The position requires an ability to lift a dog weighing 40# unassisted, work on your feet, and sweep/mop very large areas. The position is very part-time with weekday hours (4pm - 6:30pm). Must have flexibility to work weekdays and also will need to work rotating weekends and holidays. Weekends and holidays will require working a morning and afternoon shift. If you are interested, please pick up an application from the white box by our front entrance. Return completed applications to nah@newtonanimalhospital.org or bring to the clinic and call when you arrive.
Did you know that we can take dental radiographs of pets? These are radiographs from Ellie's dental procedure with Dr. Tonn today. You can see on the second picture, that Ellie's lower canines look very different. One was unhealthy and needed to be extracted. Ellie did great through the procedure and should be feeling better when this heals. She is still a little sleepy, but doing great! With a little love and special attention at home, she should be back to normal soon! #blessherheart #ellieisasweetheart #petsneeddentalcaretoo #newtonanimalhospitalks
If you want to take advantage of our November dental special, give us a call. There are only a few dental appointments left!

With the rise in the number of Covid cases in the area, we have determined that the safest way to operate is to continue offering only curbside service through the rest of 2020. We understand that this is not the way many of you would prefer to receive veterinary service. To be honest, it is not our preferred model. However, we need to reduce the risk of Covid exposure to our clients and staff. This is the model that we feel best meets that need. We will evaluate the situation at the end of the year and determine if changes can be made. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Curbside veterinary service can be exhausting. Our team does a lot of extra running. Even simple tasks take extra steps and time. This contributes to everyone being tired and needing a break. So, we will be closed tomorrow (Saturday, Dec. 5th). We will be back in the office for regular hours on Monday. Thanks for understanding.

We thought we would share some pictures from yesterday's staff Christmas party. The staff played an "intense, " laughter-filled Saran Wrap Ball game. This is always a highlight to see everyone compete to unwrap prizes hidden in the Saran Wrap! We also had a White Elephant Gift Exchange. We followed this with a meal catered by Two Brothers BBQ. Thank you to our clinic owners, Dr. Friesen and Dr. Tonn for a fun party and delicious meal. It was a great way for our team to celebrate the holidays! #nahchristmasparty #saranwrapballgamevetstyle #drfriesenanddrtonnbestbosses #nahteamhavingfun #newtonanimalhospitalks

Many of you have asked about our Covid protocols. During the pandemic, our goal has been to provide service for your pets while maintaining a safe environment for our clients and team members. We are evaluating procedures, policies, and safety equipment necessary to make modifications to our curbside service model. We are not making any changes yet. However, we will keep you informed as information on upcoming change is available. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please keep safe and healthy!
Regular examinations are important for pets. We recommend at least an annual examination for all pets. Because pets age faster than humans, missing even one annual exam can make a big difference. If your pet has not seen a veterinarian in a year, Flower encourages you to give us a call to set up an appointment.
