Before I enter an exam room, I pause and imagine that my role and my patient’s role are reversed. I am waiting for the doctor with my concerns and questions. How would I want her to act? This is how I approach each patient, whether we have a long-standing relationship or they are new to my practice.
I spend time, I listen carefully and I try to find the right treatments to help each individual achieve their goals. I believe that patients need to be active and informed participants in their health-care related decisions and I always take my patients’ beliefs, values and preferences into consideration when developing a treatment plan. Creating a pathway together with each individual patient is the most rewarding part of my daily work.
