I want to share with my friends who aren't in my industry.
Aug. 20 2019 Safelite's parent company Belron acquired another string of Autoglass companies, mainly on the east coast.
Now many have heard of Safelite. They are the biggest company in the country and their parent company Belron is the biggest in the world.
The part the public doesn't know, is that while Safelite replaces broken windows they also control the claim process in making an insurance claim.
If you are insured by a major company, like, but not limited to Geico, Farmers, Allstate, Progressive, Safeco , Liberty Mutual, etc; when you call the 800 number, you may think you are calling your insurance company, but you are calling SGC, a subsidiary of Safelite.
So, let's back track a bit. Safelite is owned by the biggest "Autoglass replacement company" in the WORLD, yet, they are also the ones setting up insurance claims.
Remember when the world was up in arms because every computer had Windows on it, and Microsoft was considered a monopoly? Well this is a far bigger issue. The Autoglass industry is run by one company basically, and foriegn company at that. Yes, Belron is a foreign company.
In short, there isn't much the public can do other than supporting small businesses. I am not pandering for business, just saying when you need something done, ANYTHING, try to use a small business. Most importantly request the glass company that you want to use. You have the right to use any company that you chose, and not be steered towards a big company.
