Retinitis Pigmentosa vs Heathy Retina... . . . Fewer than 200,000 cases of RP are reported yearly in the US. This disease typically manifests in young adults and progresses quickly, causing loss of peripheral vision, and eventually, no light perception. . Genetic testing can be done on patients with RP to determine if certain inherited genes are present. If so, ocular implants may be used to help preserve and even restore visual perception of light. . This “vision” is not what most people are used to, but it’s a HUGE step in the right direction ✨
