Flap reconstruction uses the patient's own tissue from another part of the body to form a new breast. Some women choose flap reconstruction to avoid the use of any foreign body with their reconstruction. Because the flap is the woman's own tissue, as she gains or loses weight with time, her reconstructed breast will also change with her. Flap surgery includes the risk of partial or complete loss of the flap and a loss of sensation at both the donor and reconstruction site.

Dermatochalasis of the eyelids is the result of the loss of skin elasticity, skin excess and loss of adhesion to its underlying structures. In the upper lid this causes hooding of the eyelid skin resulting in the loss of a portion of the visual field, and in the lower eyelid this appears as bags under the eye. Surgery removes the excess tissue from the lids. Care is taken to not remove too much skin leading to difficulty closing the eye or lower lid retraction.
Indications for breast reduction include large, heavy, pendulous breasts associated with the following symptoms:
• Back pain, neck pain and/or shoulder pain
• Inframammary rashes or dermatitis
• One breast is much larger than the other
• Indentations in shoulders from tight bra straps
• Restriction of physical activity due to the size and weight of breasts
• Headaches, paresthesias or other symptoms

Classic nerve compression symptoms include tingling in the thumb, index and middle fingers along with aching in the wrist, radiation of discomfort up the arm and nocturnal numbness. Symptoms are often caused by overuse of the hand and do not always follow the classic pattern. Carpal tunnel syndrome should be considered anytime a patient presents with unexplained neurologic symptoms or pain in the hand or wrist.

During breast reduction surgery the breasts are substantially reduced in size, somewhat lifted and improved in shape. When drains are inserted, they are typically removed in 24 hours. The procedure is often performed
as out-patient surgery and averages about two hours. Post-op pain tends to be minimal.

Diagnosis of nerve compression is initially suggested through history and physical examination. Physical tests such as Phalen's Maneuver or Tinel's Sign are helpful if positive, however carpal tunnel syndrome can frequently be presenting the face of negative physical findings. Atrophy of thenar muscles or objective loss of sensation are signs of advanced carpal tunnel syndrome and potentially permanent median nerve injury.

Lower eyelid laxity is manifested by ectropion scleral show, epiphora, and occasionally dry eye symptoms. Re-establishing the correct position of the lower eyelid requires tightening of the lid via a canthopexy, canthoplasty, or other procedures.
Two weeks of wound care are required after breast reduction surgery. Activity for the patient is somewhat limited during this time. After two weeks most women ease into normal activities, although strenuous exercise is restricted for 4-6 weeks.

Many adolescent gynecomastia cases will undergo spontaneous regression. If this does not occur, self-esteem and body image problems often result. In addition, these young men may become the target of bullying. Other causes of gynecomastia include tumor production, genetic disorders, and hormonal imbalance due to supplements and/or medications. Patients commonly feel compelled to hide the condition, are reluctant to seek treatment, or may not even be aware that treatment is available.
Dr. Weber went with his family on an International Medical Relief (IMR) trip, providing health care to under-served and vulnerable people in Haiti. They found it to be an incredible experience. IMR welcomes children and teens (along with other non medical) volunteers who want to make a difference for those less fortunate than themselves.
Children who are good candidates for ear surgery are:
- Healthy, without a life-threatening illness or untreated chronic ear infections
- Generally at least 5 years old, or when a child's ear cartilage is stable enough for correction
- Cooperative and follow instructions well

This may be accomplished with direct excision of the tissue and/or use of liposuction. In cases where there is extensive overgrowth of tissue, skin excision is included in the surgical procedure. Skin cancers are among the most common human malignancies. Aging, genetics, sun exposure, and other types of environmental elements all play a role in the development of these lesions. Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCCA) comprises about 75 percent of skin cancers, while Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCCA) comprises 20 percent, and Melanoma about five percent of skin malignancies. Any non-healing ulcer or gradually enlarging skin lesion should be considered for excision. Other warning signs include raised edges, crusting, variable pigmentation, pearly appearance, irregular borders, pain, ulceration, bleeding, pruritis, or continued growth.
There are effective, safe and relatively painless methods available for reducing spider veins. The most common spider vein treatment involves the injection of a solution into each affected vein, causing the vein to collapse and fade.

Recovery from gynecomastia surgery typically requires limiting activities for six weeks, such as exercising and anything requiring vigorous arm movements. This restriction allows for tissues to heal and limits the risk of blood or fluid collection. Following surgery, drains are often inserted, and the patient is dressed with a compressive dressing.

Basal Cell and Squamous Cell
These skin cancers are typically slow growing and curable with complete excision. Squamous Cell Carcinoma may be somewhat more aggressive, and, in some cases, involve the lymph nodes. Both types of tumors can be locally invasive and disfiguring if allowed to grow untreated. Suspicious lesions should be biopsied.
Once the diagnosis is made, treatment generally consists of complete excision of the lesion. In many cases, documentation of complete excision requires a number of frozen sections for evaluation of the margins (edges). In some cases several repeated stages may be required to obtain completely clear margins. Once the lesion is surgically removed, the defect is repaired. Often this is a straight forward skin closure. In some cases where the defect is large or involves critical tissues such as the nose, lips or eyelids, a complex reconstructive procedure may be required to close the defect.

In some cases seemingly insignificant skin wounds mask deeper injuries to the tendon, nerve, or vascular structures.

Generally, a wide excision is indicated and reconstruction of the defect is needed. Depending on the clinical situation, sentinel node biopsy or radical node dissection may also be indicated.
