For all our MAMAS who need to hear this... Love Always, Heather February 26 at 11:43 PM · To the Mama Who’s Tired, Maybe you were up all night with a crying newborn. Maybe you don’t remember the last time you took a shower. And maybe you’re certain that the spit up on the shoulder of your t-shirt is now three days old... Yet you find yourself still wearing the t-shirt. Maybe your alarm clock for work goes off at 6am (although you’re pretty sure that you just shut your eyes at 5:59). Maybe you’ll get up, pack lunches, drop off kids - And feel like you’ve already completed a days work before you even get to work. Maybe you’ll punch through the hours of your day, fulfilling task. after task. after task. Only to get off, come home... And then have to complete task. after task. after task. And wake up tomorrow morning to do it all over again. Maybe you stay at home all day with the littles, and don’t remember the last time you left the house (at least not without one on a hip and one at your side). Maybe you don’t remember the last time that you wore anything that didn’t have an elastic waistband, nor do you remember the last time you read a book that didn’t rhyme. Maybe you don’t remember the last time you had an adult conversation, and maybe you say “Don’t put your fingers in there” more times than you’d like to admit. Maybe everyday right now feels like Groundhog Day... Just repeating the same day (and the same moments) over. and over. and over again. Maybe you’re the mother of a child that requires that little bit more love; that little bit more attention. Maybe your life is full of doctor appointments. specialist appointments. counselling appointments. Maybe you hear other mamas complain that their child doesn’t eat vegetables, and you kick yourself for thinking: “Ugh. That’s the very least of my worries.” Maybe your child requires more than you feel like you can give sometimes - Yet you still show up. morning. after morning. after morning. Maybe you’re doing this all on your own. Maybe there’s no extra set of hands in the house to rely on - to help wipe a bum, butter a slice of toast, or to tuck a little heart in. Maybe you’re punching through the tasks of two, day in and day out; crushing them all by yourself, because, frankly, you have no choice. Someone’s gotta’ do it - And you just so happen to be that someone. And maybe you would give anything just to be able to say: “Can you do that for me, Love? I’m busy at the moment.” ...And maybe, just maybe, some days you wish that you could just breathe. That you could just gather your thoughts. Make a plan. And execute it. Instead of pushing through the chaos that you’re currently living in. Tired Mama, I see you with your calendar full of events, extracurriculars, and the endless list of birthday parties. But, Mama, you want to know what I don’t see on that calendar? Anything for you. I see nothing that will allow you to catch your breath. Nothing that will allow you to recharge. Nothing that will make YOU feel YOU again. Write out that thing, Tired Mamas. For while I could sit here and tell you that the days are long, but the years are short... Right now? For this season that you are in? This could not feel further from your reality. (and i’ll leave that to the lady in the grocery store lineup anyway #beenthere) So, Tired Mamas. Write out that one thing. Put that one thing on your calendar that you can look forward to every month. No babysitter? Ask a mama friend to do this with you, and you two exchange childcare services. No money? Make it a morning walk around your local park. Visit the library to take out books that will make your heart burst. Or just sit + chat with a friend. No time? Make the time. For, Tired Mama, you can only be as good as them as what you are to yourself. Your oxygen mask first, Mamas. Always. ...And then take care of them. xo. Follow Love Always, Heather for more moments. To all our moms with babies on the way! Today's The Best Day December 17, 2020 at 1:12 AM · Dear 2020 Baby - You have been born during a worldwide pandemic, something I didn’t even know was an actual thing until ten months ago. It’s been a year of unknowns for this world. A time of Confusion. Hardships. Heartache. Quarantine. Masks. Food storage. Fighting. Pain. Trials. Loneliness. Frustration. Sadness. & Disappointments. And now as I hold you in my arms, a gift fresh from heaven, I realize that YOU are what I have needed... no, you are what WE have needed... you are what THE WORLD has needed. There is something about a newborn baby. You bring peace when everything feels crazy. You bring joy when there is so much sadness. You bring light amidst so much darkness. You bring sunshine in the bitter cold. You bring love when there is hate. You bring hope when it feels completely lost. You are a reminder to each of us about what REALLY matters right now. That although we may disagree, we can still be kind. That when life is busy, we can sloooow down. That when we want to do all the things, the most important things to do are actually in our homes. And that although we may be different, those differences are what makes this world so perfect. As you grow, you will hear about the year 2020 that you were born in and I hope you remember how special that is. You have been born in a year the world has changed - and now YOU have the opportunity to be the GOOD change. I hope you remember to be kind when others are mean. Forgive when others hold grudges. Be strong when you feel weak. Include everyone no matter their differences. And LOVE. Love unconditionally. We have all learned a lot this year, but I think YOU, 2020 baby, has taught us the most. You have taught us that even in the hardest, most difficult times - that miracles happen. That GOOD things do come. That prayers are answered. & that there is ALWAYS hope for a brighter future. *This is dedicated to all of the precious babies that have been born in 2020! Please feel free to share and shout out to all of my fellow 2020 mamas 🖤
