Yesterday in observance of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, we participated in the International Wave of Light to remember babies lost during pregnancy or soon after birth. The gift through the Norton Children’s Hospital Foundation consists of items to help women and their newborn babies. Thank you to the Lesley & Rhyan Prather Foundation for your generous donation! This Valentine’s Day marks one year since the Prathers were killed in a car crash near St. Louis while on their way to a volleyball tournament. Also killed in the crash were Carrie McCaw, 44, and her 12-year-old daughter, Kasey. Today would have been Kasey’s 13th birthday. The Lesley & Rhyan Prather Foundation was created in fall 2020 to spread kindness in the community and help children, women and families in need. The donation today included $3,000 as well as diapers, thermometers and portable play yards that will go to help new mothers. In 2020, 6,391 mothers delivered their babies at Norton Women’s & Children’s Hospital; 34.1% were on Medicaid.
Kentucky is the fifth state to recognize Jan. 23 as Maternal Health Awareness Day.
