Ever wondered what this thing actually is?
It's called a Phoropter! Invented in the early 1900s, the phoropter is used to determine "refraction", how uniquely curved and shaped a lens must be to correct your vision to as close to 20/20 as possible. The phoropter also helps your doctor check binocular vision (how well your eyes work together) and determine the muscle coordination in your eyes.

Dr. Raoof is a fellowship-trained and board-certified cataract, cornea and LASIK surgeon. She is a highly acclaimed ophthalmologist and influential surgeon in the eye care industry, and was the recipient of the prestigious ophthalmology award: The Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship. Committed to helping the next generation of eyecare professionals, Dr. Raoof has contributed several textbook chapters on LASIK, corneal transplant surgical techniques, and dry eye.
We're celebrating Women's History Month by spotlighting our incredible female surgeons! Today's feature is Dr. Dagne Zhu, M.D.
Dr. Zhu is a Harvard-trained and board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. Born in Shanghai, China, she immigrated to the United States with her working-class parents at the age of 3. As a Southern California native, Dr. Zhu graduated top of her high school class as valedictorian and attended UCLA on a full-tuition Regents scholarship (the highest award granted in the UC system) where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in molecular, cell, and developmental biology. She regularly gives back to the eyecare community, lecturing to community optometrists and creating educational content for social media. We are so lucky to have powerhouse Dr. Zhu as part of the NVISION team!
