We are seeing more and more people coming to the shop asking for us to look at their vehicle AFTER it was “repaired” at another shop. Sadly, we still see a complete lack of care for the vehicle owners and their safety on the part of many other collision shops.
Pictured below is a front bumper reinforcement that still has damage, and broken clips that were glued on instead of being replaced. While the clips are not really safety-related, the front bumper reinforcement is ABSOLUTELY a safety component of the vehicle.
The question is why? Why not replace these parts? This vehicle is also equipped with a front radar sensor. The vehicle, according to the manufacturer’s repair manual, should have had the front radar recalibrated, which includes an alignment. None of this was noted as being done on the paperwork from the local dealership. 😥

Lawsuit accuses Allstate Insurance of stalling dying Colorado customer to save money
Attached is a screen shot of a handy report from the Colorado Department of Insurance. The report is a summary of complaints filed with the division in 2019 by Personal Auto Policies Insurers in Colorado. Note: the 2020 report is not available yet.
There is a lot to take into consideration when looking at this report. For instance the size of the insurance company. In this screen shot, State Farm has the most complaints filed. However they are by far the largest insurance company writing policies in Colorado.
Here is what is interesting to me while reviewing this report: There were 107 people that had an issue with an auto claim that went through the trouble of contacting the department of insurance and went through the filing process. Only 32 of these complaints were confirmed by the division.🧐. Regardless, 107 people felt like something wasn’t quite right.
Another thing to be aware of while viewing this report is that some insurance companies write policies under different policy names but are a division of one company. Take Allstate for interest. They have 5 different policy names that are all written under one company. Example: Allstate Fire and Casualty Insurance policy and Allstate Property and Casualty Insurance policy are both written under Allstate Insurance group. However, the number of complaints are assigned to the policy name not the main insurance company name. 61 complaints vs 7, but for all the individual policies written under the Allstate Insurance Group they have a total of 82 complaints for 2019.
Where does your insurance company rank? Do they rank the same if you have both Auto and Homeowners with the same company? It’s an interesting tool put out by the department.
Keep in mind, many people do not bother to engage the department when they have an issue. It’s really important that you at least make the phone call to them to ask about a potential issue, they will guide you from there and they are very nice people. Additionally, they see trends in complaints that we don’t!

Insurance Company Tactics: Who Should You Trust? The Airing of GRIEVEances (Ep8) Rob's Dad's Advice

If you own a Toyota Corolla (2014-2016) and have had an headlamp replaced, you MAY want to check if it has been de-certified by CAPA because of dangerous low/high beam vibration, putting oncoming drivers at risk of impaired visibility. (See model and lot numbers in images below).
Owners of Lexus NX (2015-2021) with triple beam headlights and Kia Sorentos (2011-2012) may also have de-certified headlight assemblies.
If you think you might have, or know someone who has this issue, you are strongly encouraged to call the insurance company that paid for the repair, or the body shop that performed the repair and ask about whether they used these sub-standard parts. If you still have the paperwork associated with your repair, Nylund's Collision Center would be happy to look it over for you and advise next steps at no expense whatsoever.
