A big thank you to James P. (and his pup) for stopping with us! We love seeing professional truck drivers and their four-legged co-pilots at our TA, Petro and TA Express locations.
Meet independent owner-operator Howard Salmon and his son, Liam, who was diagnosed with an aggressive, inoperable brain tumor in January. Because of the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund, Howard was able to come off the road to be with his son. After 30 radiation treatments, countless blood draws, chemotherapy and more, little Liam is still fighting for his life. “He is an everyday blessing in my life,” Howard said. “Being with him when I got home from the road was like Father’s Day all over again.” This year, we’re asking you to be a champion of change for truck drivers like Howard. Through Nov. 30, round up your purchase at participating TA, Petro and TA Express locations to the nearest dollar and your change will go to supporting American truckers and their families in need. “Drivers—thank you for your support from a fellow truck driver,” Howard said. “It’s nice to know there are other drivers out there that don’t really care about donating their last few cents. Whether you know it or not, those few pennies have almost saved our life.”
70 professional truck drivers will take home 50,000 UltraONE points each in our #TADriverAppreciation Swipestakes... And today is your last day to enter to be one of the lucky winners! Did you miss Maintenance Matters yesterday morning? Homer Hogg has you covered with his favorite caller question from the episode. Question: Where is the cabin filter located on my 2018 Peterbilt 579? Answer: You have multiple filters. One is behind the honeycomb looking panel in the bunk in the air duct. The next one is behind the passenger side kick panel behind the glove box, but low towards the floor. The final one is under the hood, either on the right side of the HVAC air box between the A/C lines or under the bottom of the HVAC air box retained by two screws. Have more maintenance questions? Tune into Maintenance Matters, the first and third Thursday of the month at 8 a.m. ET on the Dave Nemo Show, Road Dog Trucking Radio, SiriusXM channel 146.

No general manager wants to experience what Rick Farias did one September day. He just started his shift when Petro Monee, Illinois lost all internet due to a faulty network switch. That meant no diesel, gas, store registers, shop, restaurant….nothing. “The hair on the back of my neck stood up. I’ve been with the company 30 years and things like this just don’t happen,” Rick said. “The phones don’t work and registers are down. You're stopped dead in your tracks.” He called the TA Service Desk and got Network Administrator Christian Grenvik. Christian was calm as he ordered a replacement switch to be delivered within an hour. He walked Rick through temporary fixes so the site could get online ASAP. The site was up and running until a local technician could come and return operations to normal. “Back in the day if a server went down, you were down a day or two," Rick added. "Christian went above and beyond and made us feel we were the only priority he had." “Christian is a model for customer support. He takes every outage personally, works through the issues and is never satisfied until the site is fully restored to service,” said Joseph Podach, Director of Technology. “He follows up the next day just to be sure!” Looking for more stories from our sites? Did you miss Maintenance Matters yesterday morning? Homer Hogg has you covered with his favorite caller question from the episode. Question: I had a leveling valve replaced and now I have a bad hop in my truck. What can be done to solve the problem? Answer: If the frame is not at the right height the vehicle ride will be negatively impacted. A technician can check your frame height and compare the reading to the manufacturer’s specification, then make the proper adjustment. It is critical to get the frame at the correct height because that helps determine the angle of the driveline. If the driveline angle is off, the transmission, engine or other components could be damaged, so it is advisable to get the problem identified and corrected as soon as possible. Have more maintenance questions? Tune into Maintenance Matters, the first and third Thursday of the month at 8 a.m. ET on the Dave Nemo Show, Road Dog Trucking Radio, SiriusXM channel 146.

After a long 2020, Patiann Beam, a manager at the Johnstown, Pennsylvania Quaker Steak and Lube, just wanted to spread some holiday joy. So, she began collecting cards to send to U.S. service people overseas. QSL named the effort Operation Overseas and began spreading the word in the restaurant and on social media. Thinking she'd probably collect about 100 cards, Patiann was taken aback by the countless calls she got about the initiative. People Magazine even covered the story in an online exclusive. Ultimately, Patiann collected more than 3,000 cards to send overseas. "Everyone that has come into the restaurant has thanked us tremendously for what we’re doing, but I always tell them, no thanks needed, we need to thank you,” she says. “The freedom we enjoy today is because they make sure that we’re safe." If you decide to take a break first or get delayed, your code is good for 30 minutes, and can be refreshed for another 30 minutes. Once you're fueled up and ready to go, the location, points earned and date will be logged in your transaction history and stored right in the app for your records. Download or update the TruckSmart app to get started.

Did you miss Maintenance Matters yesterday morning? Homer Hogg has you covered with his favorite caller question from the episode. Question: Can I put air brake antifreeze in my air brake system? Answer: All additives are not created equally. It is important to read the label and follow the manufacturer's instructions and to note the warnings and precautions. There are products in the market that do a good job of melting ice in the air brake system, and that add some lubrication to protect air valves. The trick is to use the product as directed and to place it as close to the frozen area as possible. Of course, the best practice is to keep your system as clear as possible of moisture by draining your air tanks regularly and paying close attention to what comes out of the air tank while draining it. Too much moisture may indicate that it is time to service your air dryer desiccant/filter. Have more maintenance questions? Tune into Maintenance Matters, the first and third Thursday of the month at 8 a.m. ET on the Dave Nemo Show, Road Dog Trucking Radio, SiriusXM channel 146.

It might be the last day of our International Women’s Day celebration, but hardworking women at TA will continue shaping our business for the rest of the year and beyond. Meet one of those women, Robin Livesay, District Manager. When Robin started working at the deli counter at TA in Sawyer, Michigan, she had no idea she was at the starting point of a 31-year career in the truck stop industry. “I always knew I was in a traditionally male dominant field however I never felt like I was out of place,” Robin said. Now, she’s one of three female District Managers in the company, managing operations at 10 TA and Petro locations. “The one thing I notice is that when a guest would like to speak to upper management, they always say, “I’d like to speak to him.’” she said. “When I talk to them, I just confirm that I’m the District Manager, and I will assist them in any way possible.” Her advice to young women is to have an open mind, grow every day and be dedicated to what they do. "We've got this ladies," she said. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD #IWD2021

At TA, we’re continuing our International Women’s Day celebrations by introducing you to a few of our team members that are making an impact in traditionally male-dominated fields. Meet Tiffani Walden, District Manager. Tiffani started her career with TA as a server at Country Pride when she was just 19-years-old. Over the next 21 years, she would work in many roles throughout the company. Today, Tiffani oversees operations of 10 TA and Petro locations. “I work hard and do what I feel is right by focusing on what is important and fair within MY team,” she said. “I surround myself with the right people and don’t conform to the ideals of a traditional male dominated workplace mentality.” She encourages young women to be their biggest advocate, go outside their comfort zones and build relationships with people in their organizations. When an individual is confident, others are confident in them. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD #IWD2021
When you watch for indicators of trafficking while you're on the road, it could save a life. We've teamed up with Truckers Against Trafficking to help spread awareness of the signs that someone might be in trouble.
At TA, we’re celebrating International Women’s Day all week by introducing you to a few of our team members that are making an impact in traditionally male-dominated fields. Meet Ashley England, District Manager. From bookkepper to manager, Ashley has held many different roles in her 22 years with TA, but the bulk of her career has been in truck service. Although she was aware of the stigma that women don’t work in shops, it never slowed her down. “There were a few of us back then and I can tell you, we were all some pretty strong-willed women and we didn’t let that impact us, our teams or our business,” she said. “Today, I see more and more women in that side of our business, and I think it’s great.” Ashley recalls a point early in her career, where someone doubted her ability to move up within the company. That was the day she told herself she could accomplish anything she set her mind to. Ashley knew she was the only one who could define her career path, and who she was. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD #IWD2021

You know all about the importance of winterizing your rig, but how much attention do you pay to your truck after winter ends? Did you miss Maintenance Matters yesterday morning? Homer Hogg has you covered with his favorite caller question from the episode. Question: Can you mix batteries? How about an AGM with a flooded cell? Answer: You should not. Batteries have a built-in resistance value. This is important because the alternator must react to the charging needs of the battery set. If one battery has a lower resistance value, the amps from the alternator will be routed to the battery with the least amount of resistance. This will result in that battery overheating and will destroy that battery. In fact, you want to work hard to ensure your batteries are all the same type and age if possible. The more balanced the batteries, the more life you will get out of each of them. Have more maintenance questions? Tune into Maintenance Matters, the first and third Thursday of the month at 8 a.m. ET on the Dave Nemo Show, Road Dog Trucking Radio, SiriusXM channel 146.
