Andy Cochrane is the Chief Executive Officer at our partner org, Maple Grove Hospital. We're passing his thoughts along because we share his sincere gratitude and concern for healthcare workers amid a growing pandemic. We all have a part in slowing the spread of COVID-19 for the good of our hospitals and communities. Andy Cochrane November 13 at 10:58 PM · Remember the outpouring of community support months ago for our “Healthcare Heroes?” We don’t hear much about that anymore. The amount of work, the amount of stress and the impact on hospital and healthcare teams is far greater today than it was in May and June. When I hear people question the severity of our current situation in hospitals, I admit that I get angry. When I read comments wondering “what’s the big deal?” and “there’s a 99.6% survival rate,” I want to walk those people through our ERs and our nursing units. The unwillingness of people in our communities to change their ways and do simple things that we know helps the situation is incredibly disheartening. We’ve been planning for months but what we didn’t plan for and what we couldn’t have anticipated was the general lack of care and concern for each other we see today. More than anything, I am frustrated for our teams – the professionals who months ago were hailed as heroes and today are yelled at for not being prepared or for taking too long to provide a service. It’s not fair and it’s not right. I work alongside of some of the most remarkable and committed people I could imagine. Remember how you used to hear that “we’re all in this together?” I can tell you that the same health care heroes that were applauded months ago are still doing amazing work and providing exceptional care every day. But they're hitting their breaking point friends. They need and deserve your support to impact a change because it doesn’t feel like we’re all in this together anymore. We have to be better than this. Maple Grove Hospital North Memorial Health

The photos and experiences captured here are lasting reflections of our team’s recent choice to get the COVID-19 vaccine (now on round 2). They also help to document our confidence and support of the science behind it. On a personal note: Our doctors, midwives, nurse practitioners, and staff aren’t just your medical team. We are parents, sisters, daughters, brothers, and friends. We live in your community, use seatbelts and child car seats, have home smoke alarms, and follow a healthy lifestyle. Like these preventive steps, getting vaccinated protects us, the people in our lives, and the community. Getting this vaccine makes our community stronger. Know that we’re here to answer your questions about the COVID vaccine with answers backed by the latest medical knowledge.

Oakdale Dietitian Kim Plessel says, "As we embark on the New Year, it isn't uncommon to be flooded with diet advice or to make new resolutions for our health. As we continue to learn about the power of nutrition, one theme continues to emerge - quality matters. Regardless of calories or macros, let's focus our efforts on eating whole, real food. As the New York Times article highlights, our day-to-day food choices can dramatically impact our gut microbiome, which in turn impacts our health. Small, sustainable improvements add up over time."
