COVID-19 Update It was a welcome relief when Oakwood Animal Hospital was allowed to provide all services (essential and non essential) to our patients. The functional question now is how to safely provide veterinary care in the time of COVID-19. Given the size constraints of both our waiting room and the exam rooms, we will continue to provide curbside service as the safest way to offer consistent continuous care for our patients. Again, this is all part of an effort to provide the safest environment for our clients, their pets and the community. To review the protocol: When you arrive for your appointment (or to pick up medications) call the front desk from the parking lot to let us know that you are here. A staff person will call you back to review the circumstances of your visit and to collect an accurate history. COVID-19 screening questions will be addressed at this time as well. If you have a cat or small dog in a carrier, you will be asked to set the carrier outside the door of your car. (Please do not put it outside the car or by the front door until after the doctor has called you.) If you have a larger dog we will provide you with a slip collar leash to place over the dog's head. We will then ask you to help your dog out of the car and hand the leash to the staff person (Note: The staff person will be wearing a mask). Your pet will be examined in the clinic and the findings or a plan communicated with you either car side or by phone. Credit card transactions may be done over the phone and medications picked up by the front door. For clients who have personal or home circumstances that make an in person visit difficult (or risky to your own health), we are also offering telemedicine services. In this situation, a doctor calls you at home, reviews the history and whatever pictures/videos you provide and tries to help you remotely resolve the problem. A fee does apply to this service, but if in the opinion of the consulting doctor an in person visit is required, then the telemedicine fee is waived once a follow up appointment is completed at the clinic. These modified services are all part of an effort to provide you and your pet the safest experience possible. Anytime we move about in public we always experience a risk. Now with COVID-19 as a concern the risk is higher, but hopefully these social distancing efforts mitigate the risk enough for all of us so that we can continue to provide care and service to all of the pets that you entrust in our care. We will continue to update you as the circumstances around our clinic function change. With sincere regards, Oakwood Animal Hospital
