Ever had some orange juice after you’ve brushed your teeth? Ugh! Awful! Here’s why… On each of our 2-4,000 taste buds, there are 10-50 receptors. Food molecules of particular shapes match to taste receptors of the same shape. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (used to make our toothpaste bubbly) disrupts these pairings, making the receptors more sensitive to the orange juice’s bitter flavors, supressing its sweetness. To avoid such nastiness, we don’t suggest not brushing your teeth… Just get the timing right! 😉 #didyouknow #funfact #dentalcare #dentalhealth #OGaraDentalCare #RenoDentists

Dry, chalky teeth after eating spinach? That’s because of the oxalic acid in the leafy greens. When you chew, the oxalic acid mixes with the calcium in the spinach and calcium oxalate forms. Its crystal structure doesn’t dissolve well so it coats your teeth –that’s what makes your mouth feel kinda weird. Believe it or not, there’s a name for it: “spinach teeth.” Adding lemon to your spinach softens the effect as the citric acid dissolves the crystals. #didyouknow #funfact #dentalcare #dentalhealth #OGaraDentalCare #RenoDentists

Are you one of the 55%? An ADA study revealed that the biggest reason people don’t like to floss daily is because 2 minutes is too time consuming. It may seem like that at bedtime when you’re tired and just can’t do one more thing. Try brushing and flossing about ½ hour after dinner … then you’re all set! Oh, and it deters late-night snacking too! 😉 #didyouknow #brushyourteeth #brushandfloss #dentalcare #dentalhealth #oralcare #oralhealth #dentaltips #dentalhygiene #oralhygiene #OGaraDentalCare #RenoDentists #dentistsinReno #generaldentistsinReno
