A rare O.Henry magazine BTS with Allen and James Interior Design: This month’s “Dream-Making” story had too many details to fit in the pages! Stephanie with Allen and James gave us an insider’s look at the lighting that makes this home shine. For the linear stairwell chandelier, a mock-up was created with balloons and string to help decide and determine the length of each piece and the placement of each globe. . . . . . . . #lighting #lightingdesign #lightingdesigner #bts #design #designer #designerinterview #interview #designinspo #designinspiration #designtalk #designadvice #ncdesigner #ncdesign #interior #interiors #interiordesign #productdesign #bespoke #bespokelighting #customlighting @seasonsmagazinenc
A Nimble Deer A doe that was, only a minute before, quietly munching, leaps over a wooden fence, nimble as a goat. She rears up, after reaching the other side, like a trick dog — her front hooves dangling from her useless forelegs, her hind legs absorbing all the weight. She cranes her soft, brown neck just far enough to reach the succulent leaves of a dogwood tree. But the younger deer — smaller, less sure — stick to low-hanging branches, their tails flicking like little propellers that fail to lift them from the earth. – Terri Kirby Erickson
More #BTS with Allen and James Interior Design!: Fishing line was incorporated into the installation of several of these fixtures to create the illusion that they were floating. The overall style and design of this home is modern and contemporary so the designs of the light fixtures were made to fit flow with the design of the home. 📸 @mb_productions_nc . . . . . . . #lighting #lightingdesign #lightingdesigner #bts #design #designer #designerinterview #interview #designinspo #designinspiration #designtalk #designadvice #ncdesigner #ncdesign #interior #interiors #interiordesign #productdesign #bespoke
#BTS with Allen and James Interior Design Part 3!: This house was a new build and the scale of the home and the height of the ceilings made finding chandeliers and lighting a challenge, so Stephanie decided to design her own light fixtures for this home. Some of the fixtures she found from various manufacturers were not large enough, so she added to them to create the right size. This chandelier was purchased from one of their vendors and Stephanie added more globes to make it wider and thicker to fit the scale of the room and to create a statement. And indeed it does make a statement! . . . . . . . #lighting #lightingdesign #lightingdesigner #bts #design #designer #designerinterview #interview #designinspo #designinspiration #designtalk #designadvice #ncdesigner #ncdesign #interior #interiors #interiordesign #productdesign #bespoke

Have you seen the barn quilts featured in this month's O.Henry? Here's a bonus quilt for you: Landowner Sissy Carter drew up this brilliant design — a beaming sunflower flanked by a tobacco leaf in all four corners — to decorate a hay shed as tribute to her paternal grandfather Joe H. Carter, who originally farmed tobacco on the land. "He was a good man, and I loved him," she says. Later, sunflowers, produce and soybeans replaced tobacco as the main crop on Buckpigg Plantation. In case you’re curious, Buckpigg was Joe Carter’s nickname for Sissy Carter’s oldest son, whose father’s nickname is Buck. Buckpigg was another way of “little Buck,” says Carter. The hay shed is at 420 Sutton Road, Madison. Story by Maria Johnson. Photograph by Lynn Donovan.

Jay and Julie Brennan stumbled into love on accident. Next, they found a house on Lake Jeanette that checked all their boxes: an abundance of natural light, ample privacy and proximity to Sherwood Swim and Racquet Club. And then, with the help of Frank Chaney (architect), Pat Parr of Classic Construction (contractor) and MM Interior Design Group they transformed it into their slice of paradise.
