Hey, folks! Just a heads up that our phones are currently down, but we are otherwise open and taking excellent care of your critters as usual. ICU technician, Chelsea, captured an excellent example of agglutination today. The top slide is normal blood in a smooth, even layer. The bottom slide is blood from a dog with an auto-immune disease called IMHA. Notice his blood cells are all stuck together in clumps. When they get stuck together, the body destroys them and pets can require blood transfusions to treat the resulting anemia. This test is called a Saline Agglutination Test and is a simple test that helps our ER doctors make a rapid diagnosis and quickly start treatment of IMHA.
