38 years ago, the first Banned Books Week was launched by three organizations dedicated to books and ideas. The American Booksellers' Association, the National Association of College Stores, and the Office of Intellectual Freedom threw together a quick press release, hoping to reach an audience of around 50,000 people. Today, coverage of Banned Books Week by the mainstream media is estimated to reach almost 3 billion readers, and the Banned & Challenged Books page is the second most popular page on the American Library Association's website. In case you missed it: We've redesigned our library cards! We're debuting four new designs that celebrate the discoveries that await you at the Library. A new design will be revealed each day this week with all cards available on Friday, October 2.
Heads up! New cards come with a key fob and you can replace your current card for free but it will come with a new library card number (We know. It took us a long time to memorize ours too). If you'd rather keep your current number and stick with "Old Blue" that's fine too!

February 11 is National Make A Friend Day so the library wants to help you celebrate one of the most important relationships in your life: best friends! While supplies last, pick up a Palentine's Day Box at either our Temporary Downtown location or Indian Creek (inside @ teen desk or curbside). Inside the box, you will find best friend-themed crafts, activities and games to do with your best friend, and treats to share with your best friend.
