Wow... there are no words to express how thankful we are for our patients and staff members. Early childhood tooth decay has become one of the most common chronic childhood diseases, impacting more children than asthma.
Here's some tips and trick from our doctors to prevent tooth decay.
1. Adopt a healthy balanced diet for your child and limit sugar in drinks and snacks as much as possible.
2. Clean your babies gums with a soft cloth and water starting after birth. Once their first tooth erupts, use a soft tooth brush twice a day.
3. Introduce a cup to your child as early as possible.
4. Do not let your child go to bed with a bottle.

Has your child visited the Dentist yet? Children should start going to the dentist at age 1 or as soon as he/she start getting teeth! Their tiny teeth matter!
Also, consult your dentist about Sealants. Think of them as raincoats for your teeth. After sealant has been applied it keeps bits of food out and stops bacteria and acid from settling on your teeth—just like a raincoat keeps you clean and dry during a storm. Good morning + Happy Wednesday!
Meet Tammy, our wonderful Treatment Coordinator and Coordinator of all the things! Tammy has been with our office for 4 months, although it feels like we've had her for forever! A native to North Carolina, Tammy has been in the dental field since 2009. She has worked in general dentistry and orthodontics, doing everything from check-in to being an office manager. She is married to a wonderful man and they have five children that range in ages from 10-25. In her downtime, Tammy and her family enjoy doing activities outdoors such as hiking, kayaking and relaxing at the beach. They have a Labradoodle named Croix (named after St. Croix in the USVI) that keeps them on their toes. As a family, they enjoy traveling to different islands in the Caribbean. Tammy feels blessed to be part of the Old Trolley Dental Associates team, and she cannot wait to meet you! We are thankful to have Tammy as apart of our team 🤍

1. Avoid Bedtime infant feeding. When babies are given bedtime bottles filled with milk, formula, juice or other sugar-containing liquids, these beverages remain on their teeth for hours while they sleep, feeding decay-causing bacteria.
2. Drink water! Most public water supplies have added fluoride, which can help reduce tooth decay significantly. If you drink only bottled water that doesn't contain fluoride, you'll miss out on fluoride benefits.
3. Avoid frequent snacking and sipping. Whenever you eat or drink beverages other than water, you help your mouth bacteria create acids that can destroy tooth enamel.
4. Consider fluoride treatments. Your dentist may recommend periodic fluoride treatments, especially if you aren't getting enough fluoride through fluoridated drinking water and other sources! This is not costly and a good option if you're not receiving adequate fluoride day to day.

Good morning + Happy Wednesday!
Meet Tammy, our wonderful Treatment Coordinator and Coordinator of all the things! Tammy has been with our office for 4 months, although it feels like we've had her for forever! A native to North Carolina, Tammy has been in the dental field since 2009. She has worked in general dentistry and orthodontics, doing everything from check-in to being an office manager. She is married to a wonderful man and they have five children that range in ages from 10-25. In her downtime, Tammy and her family enjoy doing activities outdoors such as hiking, kayaking and relaxing at the beach. They have a Labradoodle named Croix (named after St. Croix in the USVI) that keeps them on their toes. As a family, they enjoy traveling to different islands in the Caribbean. Tammy feels blessed to be part of the Old Trolley Dental Associates team, and she cannot wait to meet you! We are thankful to have Tammy as apart of our team 🤍

PREVENTING CAVITIES!
For all of our Moms + Dads out there. Do you struggle with ways to prevent cavities in your little ones? Do they have a new cavity at every visit? Here's a few ideas on how to prevent these sneaky little cavities!
1. Avoid Bedtime infant feeding. When babies are given bedtime bottles filled with milk, formula, juice or other sugar-containing liquids, these beverages remain on their teeth for hours while they sleep, feeding decay-causing bacteria.
2. Drink water! Most public water supplies have added fluoride, which can help reduce tooth decay significantly. If you drink only bottled water that doesn't contain fluoride, you'll miss out on fluoride benefits.
3. Avoid frequent snacking and sipping. Whenever you eat or drink beverages other than water, you help your mouth bacteria create acids that can destroy tooth enamel.
4. Consider fluoride treatments. Your dentist may recommend periodic fluoride treatments, especially if you aren't getting enough fluoride through fluoridated drinking water and other sources! This is not costly and a good option if you're not receiving adequate fluoride day to day.

Ted Talk Tuesday! - Lets talk Dental Aging!
Often, people who are missing teeth look older than they really are. The reason is the loss of jawbone that inevitably follows tooth loss. When a tooth is lost, the stimulation it provided disappears. In just the first year of tooth loss, there is a 25% decrease in bone width. If enough teeth are lost, and as bone loss continues, the distance from nose to chin can decrease and the lower third of the face partially collapses. With a lack of structural support, the lips sag; that's why toothless people often appear unhappy as well as prematurely aged. Extreme loss of bone can also make an individual more prone to jaw fractures. Now here's the good news: Dental implants — the state-of-the-art tooth-replacement method preferred by dentists can prevent all this. Besides helping a person without teeth look and feel great again, dental implants actually prevent bone loss. We are able to place Dental implants during a minor in-office surgical procedure using local anesthetic and then, either immediately or after a healing period, topped with lifelike dental crowns.
