November is National Pet Diabetes Month and we will be taking some time over the next few weeks to spread awareness and information about the condition. 🐾 This week, we’ll start by talking about what pet diabetes is. Diabetes is a disease of the pancreas, which prevents your pet’s body from producing or using insulin properly. This means the pet cannot convert food into energy, which causes the body to begin breaking down fat and muscle tissue to convert to sugar. 🐾 Stay tuned for our next part of this series, where we’ll cover signs & symptoms of diabetes in pets.

November is National Pet Diabetes Month and we have been taking some time each week to spread awareness and information about the condition. This week, we’ll start by talking about what signs and symptoms pet owners can be on the lookout for if they are concerned about a potential diabetes diagnosis. Every pet is different, but diabetes in pets can cause symptoms including: excessive drinking & urination, weight loss, decreased or increased appetite, cloudy eyes, and recurring infections. If your pet is showing these symptoms, be sure to check in with your veterinarian for the best course of action. In part 3 of this series coming next week, we’ll discuss diagnosis and treatment of diabetes in pets, so stay tuned.

November is National Pet Diabetes Month and we have been taking some time each week to spread awareness and information about the condition. 🐾 This week, we are wrapping up our awareness series by talking about the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes. If your pet is exhibiting symptoms of diabetes, your veterinarian will perform a blood test. Those results combined with the symptoms a pet is showing will allow for a diagnosis. Treatment for diabetes in pets generally consists of insulin injections, proper diet, and daily exercise, but every pet is different, so your veterinarian will provide your pet with the best course of treatment for them. With proper management, pets diagnosed with diabetes can live long and healthy lives! 🐾 Your veterinarian is your best resource for questions related to your pet’s specific health and needs, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns!

We’re continuing our celebration of National Pet Dental Health month today by sharing before and after photos of a pet dental cleaning to help bring awareness to the importance of regular dental care for our pets and its effect on their overall health! This pup had grade 2 periodontal disease, which means plaque and tartar had built up above and below the gumline, causing some swelling and damage to the gums. As the grade goes up, the risk of infection and more severe health issues also rises. After a successful dental cleaning with their veterinarian, this pet went home with healthier teeth and gums (and fresher breath)! According to the American Veterinary Dental College, 70-85% of pets show signs of periodontal disease the age of 3. To keep your pet’s health in the best shape, we recommend daily at-home brushing and a dental cleaning by their veterinarian at least once a year. Have questions or want to book your pet’s next dental cleaning? Give us a call or visit our website for more details!

It can also be a good tool for hiding medication your pet may not be interested in taking on its own. Share your best friend’s favorite way to eat peanut butter with us in the comments below!
Happy National Polar Bear Day! Did you do a polar bear plunge this year? The first recorded Polar Bear Swim took place in Boston, back in 1904. Traditionally, this plunge or swim takes place on New Year’s Day, because after a dip in icy waters, nothing the new year could bring could possibly faze you!

To keep your pet’s health in the best shape, we recommend daily at-home brushing and a dental cleaning by their veterinarian at least once a year. Have questions or want to book your pet’s next dental cleaning? Give us a call or visit our website for more details!

Happy National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day! We know quite a few four-legged friends who are big fans of this snack! As long as it doesn’t contain xylitol, peanut butter can be a great treat for your pet! Freeze some in a Kong toy to keep your pet occupied for hours!
Wishing you a Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us!
