Tell me a story: Orchard Heights new Facebook series showcasing our residents as they share their interesting experiences. Today we are sharing an ice cream story by Henry Charlap. Many locals know of the legendary Charlap’s Ice Cream in North Boston, NY. However, many are not aware of how it all started. Back in 1926, Henry’s Dad wanted to venture off and start a Dairy business to keep in the family. Henry decided to head off to Cornell University to earn a 4-year degree in the Dairy Industry. While back home his Father bought a Dairy Farm. Soon after returning home from College, Henry entered a contest at Springfield Mass where he took 1st place! In that moment is when Henry knew he was in the right field work. At one point the business had an overabundance of cream so they decided to make ice cream with the extra. The ice cream became so popular Henry brought on his son Nick to join the family business. Today the Charlap name is famous for delicious ice cream! Nick now owns and operates 5 locations named Nick Charlap’s Ice Cream where he continues to come up with new flavors!#nickcharlapsicecream #orcharheightseniorliving #covid19 #hamistergroup

Those of you who are familiar with Orchards Heights may already know, we consider it a privilege to care for our incredible Residents. And although we are not able to have our traditional Holiday party this year, we have found the bright side. Our dedicated staff have gotten more opportunities to celebrate one on one with those who call Orchard Heights home.
While families and friends have enjoyed Zoom, FaceTime and window visits with their loved ones here at Orchard Heights, one thing you may not have noticed is the friendly competition quietly taking place throughout the building. We gave each department a Christmas theme, bag of supplies, a Christmas tree and let their imagination run. Not only have they made their designated areas seem like the most festive place to be during Christmas time, but did so with the help of our residents bringing them pure Christmas joy!
Stay tuned as we post a short video of each theme. The results are unbelievable! Once all 6 videos have been posted, we’ll open the voting polls for the People’s Choice Award. In the meantime, here are some photos to give you a glimpse of what's in store.
