Congratulations to Steve Bartlett as he celebrates 10 years as a Facilities Technician at Orchard Place! Steve shares that, “I think one of the best parts of my job is how my department comes together to overcome challenges. Our team has so much experience, and someone usually has an answer. I work at Orchard Place because it gives me a sense of helping the community and shows how I can make a difference in someone’s life just by saying hi or asking how someone is doing. It can be pretty rewarding.” Steve was born in England and moved to the USA in 1974. He has been married to his wife, Toni, for 25 years and has 2 step daughters and 4 grandkids that he loves to take fishing. Thanks for your service to Orchard Place, Steve!

Congratulations to Melanie Babcock as she celebrates 5 years with Orchard Place! Melanie works as a Care Coordinator within Orchard Place’s Integrated Health Program. Before her position as a Care Coordinator, Melanie was hired as a Family Peer Support Specialist at Orchard Place as her personal experience with her son’s autism diagnosis at the age of 19 and his struggles during his teens made her a great fit for this role. Melanie shares, “I enjoy my job because I get to help families find the help or support that I needed as a parent. I have learned so much from my co-workers and the families I work with. IHP has become a part of my own family.” Thank you for all the support you give to the families you help serve, Melanie!

In January, the Self-Care Committee at Orchard Place launched a wellness effort called “5-2-1-0”. This initiative, led by the Healthiest State Initiative and the Iowa Department of Public Health, reinforces that we need good healthy food as part of our diet, to minimize the time we spend in front of a screen, to move around during the day, and that eliminating sugary drinks helps our teeth and the rest of our body. During the month of January, we focused on educating ourselves on the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables and challenging ourselves to eat 5 servings of fruits and veggies every day. We’re looking forward to focusing on reducing screen time during the month of February. Each week, Orchard Place staff are given opportunities to participate in activities and complete challenges in order to earn points towards winning monthly prizes. In the midst of life’s challenges and stresses, it is imperative that we all commit to taking care of ourselves. Join us in committing to self-care during 2021! #HealthyChoicesCount
