Meet Caron – who’s going home after a second successful hip surgery with Dr. Jeremy Kinder. Before her first hip was replaced, Caron was terrified of surgery. But after Dr. Kinder took the time to answer her list of 36 questions, she was ready to move forward. Now that Caron’s well on her way to achieving her goal of “getting her life back,” she can’t wait to get back to her passion of horseback riding. Happy trails Caron! And thanks for entrusting us with your care.

Cheers to Lars who just had his second knee replacement with Dr. Jared Foran. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Lars likes to hike, bike, and ski – and credits strength training and weight lifting for helping him prepare for surgery. While not everyone can leg press 400 lbs. like Lars, being fit for surgery is key to a successful recovery. Thanks, Lars, for entrusting us with your care. You inspire us to be healthy and enjoy all that Colorado offers!
In celebration of Healthcare Quality Week we held our annual Quality Poster Fair – showcasing all of our hospital’s process improvement projects. Kudos to our Rehab Dept. for winning the grand prize for their “speak up for safety” efforts to increase reporting of unsafe events before they have the potential to cause harm.
As we pay tribute to our team members who have been at OrthoColorado since we opened in 2010, we’d like to introduce you to Pat, a Physical Therapy Assistant who works in our Rehab Dept. I love Pat.” While Pat is also an EMT and volunteer firefighter and has utilized those medical emergency skills to improve our emergency response processes, there is a humble, selflessness about her that inspires us all to be the best that we can be. Thanks, Pat, for being on the OrthoColorado Team!

While we don’t offer “frequent flyer” miles at OrthoColorado – we heartily welcome patients back when they need our care. In April, we had the pleasure of caring for Steve after his second successful back surgery with Dr. Michael Drewek. Fast forward to today. We’re happy to report Steve is headed home with a new knee after having surgery with Dr. Jared Foran. Later this month we will have the privilege of caring for his wife Janet when she returns for her second shoulder surgery with Dr. David Schneider. Thank you Steve and Janet for entrusting us with your care!

While Santa had to keep his social distance at our annual Holiday Celebration this year – he brought tons of good cheer! A special thanks goes to our hardworking team for their steadfast commitment to delivering the very best in compassionate care every day of the year.
On Wednesday -- more than 10 months after the COVID-19 pandemic reached our communities -- we began vaccinating our caregivers across Centura Health, an effort that will continue in the days and weeks ahead. This significant milestone does not mean we can let down our guard against this deadly illness, but it is nonetheless cause for celebration. For more information about the vaccines, visit https://www.centura.org/covid-19/covid-19-vaccine-information.
We are receiving initial allotments of COVID-19 vaccine at every one of our hospitals this week. Dr. Shauna Gulley, Centura's Chief Clinical Officer, talks about what that means for our caregivers as well as the communities we serve.
May you have the merriest of holidays, a Christmas filled with peace and joy, and a Happy New Year.
Twas the night before Christmas and all through our hospital patients were nestled snug in their beds. But outside our Operating Room there arose such a clatter. Could it be Santa’s reindeer prancing and pawing at OrthoColorado Hospital? (Glad they knew to #MaskUp.) May the miracle of Christmas fill your heart with joy!!!
These doses of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine represent hope. Hope for a healthier and safer 2021. Hope for a return to normalcy. Hope for fewer deaths and serious illness in our communities. Hope for an end to this global pandemic that has touched each and every one of our lives.
On this Christmas Eve, we are full of hope and optimism for what the future holds. Please be safe this Christmas holiday, and continue to wear face masks, socially distance, practice good hand hygiene, and stay away from others when sick.

St. Anthony Hospital and OrthoColorado Hospital associates recently showed their generosity in a hugely successful donation drive on our campus. Our caregivers donated more than 150 winter coats, hats and gloves; 680 pounds of nonperishable food items and toiletries; and 168 reusable bags for easy food transportation, all of which was lovingly donated to The Action Center to help Jefferson County residents experiencing food and clothing insecurity. Particularly during these cold winter months, our associates recognize the importance of caring for our community by stepping up to support those who need it most. We're proud to be part of this amazing team!

Whether working with patients and their family members or physicians and staff – Carl goes out of his way to make sure everyone is taken care of. In fact, he’s known as the “patient whisperer,” because of his uncanny ability to give each patient exactly what they need. Hands down, we are lucky to have Carl on our team!
Our CEO Jude Torchia received his second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine today and shared, “As a healthcare leader, the opportunity to receive the vaccine is a blessing. The vaccine is not only for me, but for the health of my family, friends and co-workers. This is a positive way to help protect the health of our community as we work to stop the spread of coronavirus and get life back to normal.” For more information about the vaccine, visit https://www.centura.org/covi.../covid-19-vaccine-information.
For Marcia, having hip replacement surgery with Dr. Peter Lammens is the ticket to getting her life back. Having retired after 45 years as a teacher, Marcia can’t wait to play with her 2 granddaughters and get back to swimming, biking and snowshoeing – without the excruciating hip pain. While Marcia thanked us for providing “wonderful care from start to finish,” we’re just excited to see her well on the road to recovery!
The kindness of our patients never ceases to amaze us. Following knee surgery with Dr. Jared Foran, Ron sent our team a bouquet of flowers that is simply stunning! Ron – we are wishing you a speedy recovery and are touched by your thoughtfulness. Serving as your “Heavenly Guardian Angels” was our pleasure!
Congratulations to our Good Catch of the Quarter winner, Karen Campbell, RN, who works in our Inpatient Unit. Our Good Catch program is part of our ongoing commitment to patient safety and achieving zero harm to our patients and their families. Thanks, Karen, for your steadfast commitment to keeping patients safe!

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can cause joint pain and damage throughout the entire body. But for Deborah – who suffers from RA – after her third successful back surgery with Dr. Thomas Puschak she already “feels like a different person.” Just the simple act of moving her leg without feeling pain is a blessing. We’re thrilled at Deborah’s small victories and can’t wait until she accomplishes her ultimate goal of going roller skating again. You go Deborah!

When we asked Annette about what it’s like to come back to OrthoColorado for her third surgery, she said: “Everyone here is so nice!” Now that she’s had her second successful knee replacement with Dr. Mark Mills as well as back surgery with Dr. Thomas Puschak, Annette just wants to get back to walking pain-free and her passion of nature photography. While Annette asked if should could spend another day with us to enjoy “being spoiled” – we’re happy to report she’s well on the road to recovery. Thanks for entrusting us with your care, Annette. It has been a pleasure!
While COVID-19 has forced us to shift our in-person PreOp classes to Zoom – we’re happy to report our virtual classes have been met with positive reviews! One of our patients shared, “Thanks for making the class so approachable. I didn't have this for my previous surgery, and I feel better prepared for the before/during and after process.” Preoperative education plays a key role in ensuring better patient outcomes while helping calm our patients’ fears. It’s always a pleasure to serve patients who come back to us for additional surgical care. In Maree’s case – she had her first hip replacement surgery with Dr. Peter Lammens when we first opened in 2010. Fast forward to today – and we’re happy to report Maree is doing great after Dr. Lammens replaced her other hip. What’s next on Maree’s schedule? Playing golf and riding her bike around her neighborhood (at 83 years old). You inspire us to live life to the fullest Maree. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Mark is an amazing asset to the St. Anthony Medical Campus and to our hospital!

We're very proud of Mark Isaac, St. Anthony Hospital's Supply Chain Manager, for being named a Hospital Superhero by the Colorado Hospital Association for his hard work and dedication to providing excellent service during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
Mark, who in 2020 celebrated his 40-year anniversary with St. Anthony Hospital, has been a mainstay with our organization and is a trusted partner in Supply Chain.
"It is nice to be recognized, (but) I am just part of the Supply Chain team, the St. Anthony Hospital/OrthoColorado Hospital team, and the Enterprise team and could not accomplish what I have without the other members of those teams," he said. Mark noted the pandemic has made him more grateful for those around him. "The most important thing is the greater appreciation of friends and family as most people at least know someone who has been affected by COVID-19 in one way or another."
We're extending a heartfelt thank you and congratulations to Mark for his lifelong dedication to our healing ministry and his steadfast commitment to living his Mission. We are honored to know and work alongside him!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! We couldn’t resist sharing some St. Paddy’s Day treats with our hardworking OrthoColorado crew. Feeling lucky to have such an amazing team!
As a body builder Ken is used to pushing through pain. But when severe sciatica nerve pain caused by degenerative discs in his lower back became too much to handle, it was time for surgery. Thanks to the expert care of spine surgeon Amit Agarwala and our OrthoColorado Team, Ken is well on the road to recovery after having an L4-L5 spinal fusion. Thanks, Ken, for entrusting us with your care. We look forward to the day you can hit the gym again. And remember — no squats.
After 8 surgeries at our hospital, Carol has an intimate understanding of what it’s like to be an OrthoColorado patient. In fact, it’s what inspired her to renew her nursing license and join our team as an Inpatient Unit RN. Remembering the heart-felt encouragement she received as a patient, “that life was going get better” is the same philosophy Carol shares with the patients she cares for. Thanks, Carol, for sharing your first-hand knowledge and expert care to help guide our patients on the road to recovery!

A huge thank-you goes to Brenda for sending these amazing flowers to our team. Sharing that our hospital was able to “exceed your expectations” made our day. Thanks, Brenda, for your kind words. Hope your shoulder is doing well!
John is no stranger to surgery. After having 2 knee surgeries at our hospital with Dr. Jeremy Kinder, John returned for spine surgery with Dr. Todd VanderHeiden. Despite suffering from spinal stenosis that required a spinal fusion and cage to stabilize his spine, John never lost his sense of humor or his positive outlook on life. Thanks, John, for giving us a reason to smile and laugh. We hope you get back to playing with your grandkids soon. Just be careful with the wrestling moves.
